If we're using the moniker, it's most certainly closer to a 'Zero' mission like the one for Metroid, in that respect, and quite similar in what it sets out to accomplish. This is a neat arrangement of the original and a bit more forgiving, quite reminiscent of the above mention.

Doesn't mean it lacks a challenge. There are a few long, drawn-out parts to the game, especially in overall map design choices for some of the top-down areas, and some overall design choices with bosses and gun usages and expectations that you have to do a little digging on for some situations but overall it tries its best to remain true to the original, for better or worse. Probably my only real critique of the game because as an homage to the original it does a great job.

Not great. Definitely not as memorable as Transformed and is a step back in many ways.

Fortunately, it appears the devs agree as the latest, CrossWorlds, appears to be heavily inspired by Transformed. Maybe wait for that one. If you can't, look up Transformed and play that one instead.

Found myself timing out a lot of things to get a win, even on Easy, and, in the end, it really wasn't all that fun. Godforbid someone plays this on any difficulty higher than that.

It's obvious this tries to be 'heavily influenced' Balatro...but that game serves its purpose well by being something incredibly simple to get into with its experience. This is anything but - you're pulling off a base game that has a lot of complexities and this just makes that even more chaotic. Even if you have a pretty good idea of what you're doing with the base game of Chess, this clearly throws that out the window, and while I was hoping that it might be a nice change of pace...that's not the case here.

So, no. I'm not going to be able to recommend this. Ends up more frustrating than it is fun.

If you're big on Metroidvanias, this doesn't get much higher of a recommendation in my list for new releases. Everything about it is polished and hits those notes perfectly. That said, there's quite a bit here for the ten or so hours I spent and not everything is as easy as a walk in the park. Don't be afraid to die a few times on this one and SAVE OFTEN. The one
downside I will give this is that it doesn't hold your hand all the time for auto-saving, just on certain intervals. Keep that in mind, you'll be happy you did when you inevitably perish and drop a large sum of progress when you forget about it.

I liked it. I had no idea that this was an already existing franchise before looking into it and was pleasantly surprised about how nice of a game this was. Great game, great story, great characters and a decent chunk of time investment for the price. I'm not entirely certain if I'll take the time to look up the series on mobile or wait and see if there's a redo/sequel to this but I more or less loved every second of this with a few caveats.

The only two things that pop out and me offhand is that the difficulty, as many will point out, isn't anything tedious. If you're looking for something like that, this is right up your alley. If you're looking something for a bit less broken in your favor, you can try out the other difficulty modes towards your favor and see if it doesn't bore you. The other thing I will mention is that while the presentation of this, for the most part, is stellar, I have to wonder about a few things done with the sound - specifically, the music. While some aspects of the soundtrack are great I have questions on some of the scenery and battle music loops in a few areas. I'm not sure if this was intentionally left unfinished in some areas but you'll notice it pretty much immediately after a while. It's a less than glaring, and only detracts so much, but I am a stickler for such things when everything else is done with the amount of polish that the game has.

Short of that, I'd definitely recommend it if you're one who's big on Atelier-like gameplay and fairly deep story hidden under a cutesy look.

Randomly hit my radar over the holidays and, frankly, I'm sad that I didn't see this sooner. This hits all the buttons for me as a crossover of something like a top-down version of Wizardry with FF III vibes from the Famicom. Definitely takes a little bit of thinking to get through a run but for how it is at present, it's definitely worth the entry fee. Per what I'm seeing in the discussions, it's only going to get better. Even at this state, the price of entry is certainly worth it if the above appeals to you whatsoever. The obvious references to the games this was based off of are clear as well, so it's obvious that they loved the influences that this was made of when making this. More than recommend this if you have a few hours on a Sunday to kill.

I played the game to completion - I'd tell you to hold off unless you're a niche lover of Tetris with some patience. The patience has everything to do with the state of the game. It works and there is definitely some passion in the project, enough to generate interest from those that might appreciate the crossover and enough to appreciate the talent involved to create such a game, but the polish is lacking and it shows by multiple soft-locks and crashes and other such things. I even took the time to check out the community Discord and was less than impressed in the couple of days or so that I took to see if there was any help that could be provided and vice versa. Overall, it was clear to me that they weren't on top of things or just too busy with everything else and it made me believe that it might be better to come back to this some time down the road once they get things in order, if that ever comes to pass. Maybe leave them alone so they can do their thing or whatnot.

In total, I'm left disappointed. Moreso than a lot of titles like this. Obviously, there's a lot here that could be taken advantage of and it would be something I would like to tell others about because I believe it's a project worth talking about. I can't, in good conscience, recommend something in this state, though - especially when it feels to me that the developers involved are either too busy to work on this or care only so much with a community surrounding them. Whether or not that's correct or not, that's the impression I got and I'd rather not be a part of that, at least not just yet.

Incredible fan creation. I'm surprised they're only asking five dollars for it and that may perhaps be my only complaint about the game overall. This is easily worth double or more for how much work has been taken and there's a lot here for the casual all the way up through the experienced. If you want a spin on the original game for a few dollars, you've found it.

I honestly think it's one of the better free Mahjong clients out there. If T+A aren't your thing, however, you might want to look elsewhere. I'm an old weeb so I'm fine.
