Quick review of “The Thaumaturge” PC: Steam version

Thanks to Fool's Theory and 11 bit Studios for the key to showcase the game to my Community on Twitch!

✅PRO
❌CON
  • Awesome Art, World, Environment, Salutor and Atmosphere design

  • Was great to see the tie into real world history (Especially given my personal history around Hemophilia)

  • Combat isn't overly complex, but Salutors offer a unique approach as well as some minor customizable skill modifiers to what you want to do

  • Optimization and Graphics were great and include quite a few options, bugs were incredibly minimal

  • Quite a bit more playability then I expected and I didn't 100% it either

  • Lots of story, world, history, and more lore tied into the game as well as there was different outcomes to different scenarios based on choices.
  • As the story progressed from mid to end point, I felt there was a lot of strange interactions that didn't quite fit, out of place/order, or were contrary to what you were attempting to do. I also wasn't the only one that pointed this out.

  • Due to the above, this did create times of confusion during the story and/or things like plot holes at the time.

  • Voice acting for the main character, and sometimes others, often times almost seemed like it was intentionally slowed down/delayed between words. (Also was not the only one to point this out)

  • The Thaumaturge sense/finger snapping can get annoying to hear and repeat so often

  • There is a good deal of walking and repeating the same actions you grow accustomed to

PERSONAL SUMMARY
Overall I had fun playing the game and expereiencing the world the Developers spun from real world history. There was certainly some things I would think they'll be smoothing out with patches. The biggest draw I think was that it seemed like the farther you got into the story, the more portions of the conversations and story felt like it unravelled. If you enjoy games like Disco Elysium, I'd think you'd also enjoy this one.

Quick/non spoiler review~ PRE RELEASE QA Build of Bleak Faith: Forsaken PC: Steam version~ A Day 1 patch was released on launch day. Will update when I try it out.

Thanks to Archangel Studios and Vicarious PR for the key to showcase the game to my Community on Twitch!

✅PRO
❌CON
  • Optimization seemed fairly well done

  • Level art and Atmosphere design is engaging, well done, and unique

  • Items and gear design are intricate

  • Decent amount of graphic and other options including DLSS support as well as Controller Support

  • Quite a few character stats to work with and Perks and Ability systems. Plus they have videos to showcase how abilities work

  • World seems to be free exploration with hidden areas, and you’re able to unlock shortcuts and teleport travel

  • When there’s no issues with Combat, it feels pretty accurate to your actual character model so small windows of avoidance, timing and resource management is important.

  • Has a crafting system for at least some usable type items
  • Combat inconsistencies were the most frustrating. Ie. Enemy’s clipping through each other, and fighting on elevation like stairs can make hits from both either miss entirely or hit randomly.

  • Controller issues were present, confusing binds, as well as KB/Mouse bindings caused quite a few issues till I rebound things like jump etc.

  • Very few, but present graphical glitches

  • Character feels very stiff, as well as rather “floaty” which caused issues with movement

  • Items/UI were troublesome to change/use or to back out from without closing entirely

  • No method to revisit tutorial pop ups like combo attacks and so forth.

REQUIREMENTS

- M.2 SSD
- 1440p
GRAPHICS

GAME RELATION/FUN
I see similarities to Souls like games. The World is engaging and fun to explore but Annoying/Repetitive issues as mentioned can get in the way.
PRICE WORTH
$40 is a bit steep given the current issues and combined full launch/not E.A. title (Personal opinion)

Early Access Review
Review of SUPERFUSE PRE-EARLY ACCESS VERSION!! (To other reviewers.. This is NOT A final product.. dont expect it to be..)

Thanks to Raw Fury and Stitch Heads for VERY early testing, and a very early key to showcase the game to my Community on Twitch! Any ideas you want passed to the Developers, please post them and I'll do my best to include it.

If you want to see some crazy builds and idea's I've played around with before EA release, drop by!

EARLY ACCESS! ✅PRO or General Game information
❌CON or FUTURE IDEAS
  • Amazing Animation, character design art and inclusion of things like skills changing visually via fuses

  • Level art and Atmosphere design flows great with the Comic/superhero style. There are a decent amount of different enemy styles over time as well.

  • COOP up to 4 player: Current player trading is dropping items on ground. Servers CURRENTLY support only Free 4 all loot system, however it appears there will be other options in the future.

  • There is indeed some current Endgame content This includes randomized like dungeons with modifiers on them.

  • Graphical quality style ie, Comic based, is well done

  • Start of game will feel very slow due to character movement speed. Counter it with Movement speed gear.

  • Gear doesn't drop based on your level or area level currently.

  • Resetting area's requires you to go to main menu, and back into game currently.

  • Each Character and specialization feels unique from each other and fun to play

  • The FUSE system is incredible. Even at EA launch state there are TONS of combos you can try out and many turn out to be hilarious, OP, or just fun to use. This is one of the BIGGEST selling points of the game. Due to how unique it is, how each person can build each skill how THEY want, while also needing to balance it all together, and make the code work together, there will be many hills for the Dev's to climb, and they're doing great with it so far.
  • Hoping for more Accessibility options

  • Optimization troubles dealing with TONS of effects and crazy things you can do with fuses tends to cause FPS troubles at times even as a solo player.

  • Stash is currently a bit small for a stat based, looter, ARPG.

  • Some specializations can be a bit lacking in areas due to Early access launch/in development situations

  • Some issues with audio if there's also to many effects going on together.

  • No current Character customization outside of Color's gear/items.

REQUIREMENTS
Mid tier: Recommended: i7 9700 / AMD Ryzen 5 4600U
RAM: 16 GB
VIDEO CARD: Geforce 2060 6gb / Radeon RX 5700
SOUND CARD: Yes
FREE DISK SPACE: 15 GB
🔧Specs
DIFFICULTY
I didn't experience any real difficult scenarios personally.
- AMD 3950X
- 3080 FE
- 32GB Ram
- M.2 SSD
- 1440p
GRAPHICS
Amazing combination of ARPG and Super Hero Comic ideas
MUSIC/SOUND
Some issues in incredible amounts of audio effects at once situations
STORY LENGTH
(5 - 8 hours) and more content coming: Most people shouldn't really only be jumping into a Loot based ARPG JUST to rush the story though.
FUN
Incredible fun, especially when you get the FUSES you want and start experimenting with them.
PRICE WORTH
It was overall a fun and interesting game to me. It is also just going into EA now, so that needs to be the first thing you take into account and decide yourself.

Quick review of “The Callisto Protocol™” PC: Steam version

Thanks to Striking Distance Studios, Krafton, Inc for the key to showcase the game to my Community on Twitch!

✅PRO
❌CON
  • Amazing Animation work

  • Level art and Atmosphere design is great

  • Death, body damage etc work is incredibly in depth

  • Graphical quality and Mocap is amazing

  • A few Accessibility options that can help people and some of the issues with game
  • Combat inconsistencies were the most frustrating. Ie. Enemy’s clipping through each other, only auto soft lock on target which causes issues in multiple enemy fights, fighting on elevation like stairs can make hits miss and enemies still hit, many times enemies would not react to hits and you would get hit, very repetitive fight mechanics for enemies

  • Save/Auto save locations before larger risk fights was annoying

  • No FoV atm and this causes camera issues during fights

  • A lot of Optimization issues and only a few graphical options

  • Story plot hole and questions can be confusing

  • PC-KB/Mouse keybinds are incredibly annoying and cause conflicts with movement and reactions during combat, especially multiple enemy fights. Ie. Holding A or D to dodge but you must alternate as well.

  • Season pass locked content and Story ending seems a bit extensive

  • A lot of basic jump scares and Linear level design

REQUIREMENTS
High end
🔧Specs
DIFFICULTY
Hard: Mainly just due to issues listed
- AMD 3950X
- 3080 FE
- 32GB Ram
- M.2 SSD

GRAPHICS
Amazing/Extreme, Atmospheric but lacks options
MUSIC/SOUND
Good/No real issues
LENGTH
Shorter (5 - 15 hours) and more content coming
FUN
Fun but Annoying/Repetitive issues
PRICE WORTH
It was overall a fun and interesting game, however it is a bit high on pricing. Considering issues and Cost vs playability time being rather low, current MSRP is rather high imo.

tl:dr/dw Plague Tale Requiem Review
AMD 3950x : RTX 3080 : Game 47GB/Day 1 patch 10.7GB
(This review was mostly PRIOR to the Day 1 patch | DLSS 3 not supported on this card | Ray tracing was not enabled till release | My mentioned testing was done while also streaming from the same system so some numbers may not align with others.)

PRO’S
  • Lots to do, upgrade, skills, and way more surprises
  • Many game paths to choose. YOU choose how to play
  • Game looked amazing, animations, sound, all on point!
  • NG+ type modes
  • Story is top notch, gets you attached, and pays homage to the last game very well. (imo)
  • No crashes at all
  • There can be thousands and thousands of rats on screen at a time. (Con maybe?)

CON’S
  • Optimization was rough in some crowded areas (After day 1 patch this seems to still be a SIGNIFICANT issue. I was getting barely any increase in FPS from DLSS or even swapping to a lower Resolution.)
  • Checkpoint system can be annoying if you want to go back
  • Start can be a tad slow to immerse you
  • Bugs seemed to get worse after Day 1 Patch for me personally

VERDICT
Personally I think the game was incredible. Well made, with little to no issues overall. I think anyone that likes the Plague Tale games will really enjoy this one. I expect even better tweaks to optimization especially after a 10 GB update.

Thanks to Focus Entertainment for the key and early access of course!

Early Access Review
This is a review of 1 day before release:Pre-release/Pre-early access: Things can and will change over time.

Just got a 3.9gb release day update that wasn't included in this review at the time. From watching the Dev's play currently, it seems like a few things were addressed that I had trouble with.

  • The idea and story behind the game seems solid and interesting.
  • The writing and such is a bit different with modern day swearing in much of it(Nothing wrong with that just not accustomed to it as much in a game like this).
  • I wasn't expecting most of the Male/female characters to be rather topless starting out so that was interesting lol.
  • Formations was an interesting thing to experience and I can see adding some interesting mechanics to fights as it changes your ability's and combines your team.

  • Graphic Optimization was terrible.. Partly due to there was no Full screen, windowed, or windowed full screen option. Most options didn't even add to the FPS even turned down. (system is a 3950x+2080ti)
  • Combat seemed rather odd to try to work with, as well as animations and targeting.
  • Multiple scenes were missing or just skipped somehow.
  • Many of the voice overs wouldn't match a cut scene, the cut scene would throw your camera around or NPC's would vanish, as well as some T posing of the NPC's in dialogue.
  • Most voices were simply way to low volume as well.
  • Character customization starting out is fairly bland/not to many options.
  • Ability's seem pretty bland/few to count.

I didn't play much by the obvious time spent count, so later things I wouldn't know about yet. I do think the game has potential however I also do 100% think the game should be given more time. There was a lot of issues I came across at the time. However, it being in Early access does give them time to improve on all the odd things I encountered. Overall I think with some good time and work, it could turn out to be really interesting.

Played campaign before full launch, Game runs great in 4k for me, AI for NPC teammates can be a bit weird but overall good, highest difficulty is indeed a challenge, Multiplayer is certainly interesting and has multiple modes. Game itself feels like a FPS+Xcom mix and you have to get good at paying attention to everything at once. You control the main character, at the same time as the NPC/Team's abilities and reactions.

Game is certainly fun just depends on what you're looking for in a game! Price does seem a little steep vs playability, but what isn't these days.
