Very intense and sad atmosphere, more so once you dig into the lore.
Further chapters get deeper into the horror setting.

I really recommend the game if you like solving puzzles and exploring, both at your own pace or when being chased / timed..

Phenomenal art style and soundtrack combined with a story and side-quests that touch upon the dark themes one might expect from a doomed world, but not from a game like this.
Do not let the art style fool you. This game is filled with sorrow, and you'll have to drive through it, literally.

To note, as there will be some that do not like repetitive gameplay:
The game will have you do a lot of backtracking for quests, traders, and region-specific resources, so take that in mind if you are not a fan of that. There is fast travel, but it'll cost you a resource at the beginning of the game, and the fast travel points are scarce and spread out to encourage region exploration.
However, this will not be such a big issue as the game will present you with more dangerous encounters as the story progresses, as well as alternative paths once you have the right tools.

With that said, I really recommend trying this game out!
For me, it hit all the right spots, a bittersweet perfection.

Oh, and you can listen to all the cassettes you've collected while exploring, which is something I really love when games do, like MGSV.

Fixed with the new Veteran talent tree rework. Good game.
I'm disappointed with the talent tree update for the Veteran class.
I love the new Blitz and Ability skills, but the specialization of the talent tree has issues. Why am I being forced to use las-weapons so hard? 'Braced Agripinaa' was my favorite weapon but now it's nowhere near what you can do with las-weapons.

The previous talent selection for the Veteran allowed for a wider range of viable weapons, but now it seems like using las-weapons is practically mandatory if you want to make use of the ranged side in the talent tree. Most of the talents there (also on commando's side) are literally geared towards them, be it due to their large magazine size or rate of fire, which is nowhere near as prominent on other weapons.

Did the developers forget the class had access to other weapon types? There's so much you could've done with the Autoguns, Shotguns, or even Plasma.

The nerf to toughness is frustrating as well, as this class was meant to prioritize gunners, y'know, the enemy type that melts toughness?

Overall, the changes (in a way) feel much more limiting and I no longer enjoy playing since the new update.

Starbound is a perfect game for those players that seek a relaxing and exploration-filled experience.
If you played Terraria - you'll likely love Starbound. (Sorry for comparing these two)

If I were to describe the variety of content the game has, the review would be too long, so I will just mention that the game feeds the creative and explorative types.
With the development having presumably stopped, it still has an active modding community that hugely expands on previously mentioned content, easily letting you reach 1000 hours of playtime with not getting bored.

You will also enjoy the amazingly atmospheric soundtrack composed by Curtis Schweitzer, making your adventures all the better.

It has been my favorite game since 2014, and hopefully, it'll be your's too.

Fantastic Colony Sim in which you'll sink countless hours, especially once you get your hands onto the Community Workshop and Expansions (DLCs).
Speaking of mods, you'll need them if you don't want to micro-manage every single step of your colonists, especially once they start indirectly killing each other for not prioritizing doctoring or cleaning the kitchen before cooking meals.

What I love about this game and why I can recommend it is that anyone can have a shot at it, you have complete freedom over the direction your colony will follow. Generally, the objective of the game is to advance your colony and build a spaceship to get off the Rimworld. However, most opt to stay and see how it plays out. It is up to you how the story goes and how you'll achieve that.

The game contains dozens of extensive systems that help you shape the story and environment, such as Pawn relations and needs, the Scenario System, AI Storytellers, Faction Relations, and so on. Every attempt will be different, your stories will either be shaped by tragedy or fortune, depending on how well you're doing.

If you feel confused about anything, worry not, the game contains a Learning Helper which will explain the basic mechanics the game has to offer, the rest you'll learn by experience.

Remember - modding is a fun experience, waiting an hour for the game to load... not so much.
