If God of War beats this game for game of the year, all hope is lost.

As someone whos played this game since release with my brothers and have always been one of the top players with the best gear best ships lots of money invested its a great game and lots of fun to play. BUT......... From release to now it has fallen.

Would I recommend it someone ? sure, it's a fun MMO lots to it, but it has loot boxes like CS:GO or any other game (PUBG, etc.) and honestly I feel like that killed it for me. Some of the most interesting ships and interesting stuff is all RNG gambling on boxes and its all real money, the # of ships you can access and the # of end game loot you can get that makes it more interesting is all money based. In a way, IN MY OPINION, it is pay to win. BUT, I haven't played in a long time. But everytime I come back for events (holidays and stuff) nothing has changed, just more of the same old same old. I would love to see it go back to its former hard-core, rewarding for the invested players, version but its not going to happen. Unfortunately this game went through some dev turmoil at the beginning of its time-span and was hit hard by lots of bad decisions, different devs, different leadership and it's super unfortunate, but doesn't change what happened.

That's all I got and the truth.

Early Access Review
Great game <3 <3 <3, the only complaint I have is that it's not an addition to the core game. I'm not sure if they have intentions on adding it to the core game that way new DLC like ShipWrecked just have multiplayer capabilities already as a core feature but I hope at some point they do. Either way, love Don't Starve. And multiplayer just makes it even better <3

TL;DR :: 8.5/10 | Love the game.. A few things need to change though . . .

To start off, I love this game... but, unfortunately I'm playing on a low-end PC atm so I can't really enjoy the full extent of it's amazing graphics... yet.. (working to change that). But, all-in-all this game is pretty cool and fun and beautiful. It's obviously better when you play with friends, or at least a full team with MICS... but you're not going to always get that. So, I'd like to see a system put in place that attacks this lack of communication/mic barrier... Instead of maybe 1 general style of ping, maybe add in a few different kinds for different scenarios (this is just an idea).

Also, this game SOMETIMES lacks replayability. But this completely depends on you, the player. The story mode is a great first-step towards facing this issue, but I feel no one plays it. I'd like to see more objective-based game modes added and maybe a little more focus on it. TDM is always fun... But the REAL interesting play comes with objectives and competitive style gameplay.. Which leads to the next thing. Players want competitive, replayable games. (thats why CSGO and LoL are so popular) If this game hopes to compete, the devs need to look towards tackling the competitive end of this game and maybe putting a little more effort into doing so (although, with this style of game, I feel that's not an easy task to accomplish... props to the devs though for sticks through with this, this game has a CRAZY amount of potential).

All together, I say this game is a 8.5/10. Only because of the community really and a little on the game's side.... The game is wonderful, but there's a low player base and no one wants to communicate... So queue's can sometimes be long and no one really talks... (maybe it's just the time of day I play at idk)... Also, I feel the $100+ of potential DLC is a bit much... I understand budgets of games (especially a game with no player base..) are not as high as "need-be" especially to create a game like this and compete with other newer games that have amazing graphics, but lets be honest... This is a new game, a new franchise in itself. You can't be throwing millions, ask for hundreds, and then ask for more thousands just because you need it.... Work on establishing a player base first, start small, then slowly request more through more understandable means. Remember, most people playing this game will only be willing to put $20 EVERY SO OFTEN in this game TOPS.. Unless it's amazing and crazy fun... Then who knows, maybe thousands.

Honestly though, I would've rather seen a way to get all in-game characters through just merely playing the game (maybe an in-game currency, maybe have it like the second group of hunters, and 2nd/3rd monster WHO CARES, just not $$$) and then give an option to pay real $$$, whatever it is, currently it's bad, sorry, it's the truth... I think forcing the player to buy a character who could potentially be better than the rest sways this game towards Pay-To-Win... And lets be honest, NO ONE likes PTW games. . . . Unless you work like 80 hours, then you love it. Anyways. . . . I know this is also a console based game... But PC games are moving away from DLC and things like PTW, if you expect a successful multiplayer game to thrive on PC, make it free to play (after initial purchase), add in-game content that DOESN'T effect the game (aka skins, icons, etc, all visual things...) that the player can buy only, and important content (hunters, monsters, maps, etc.) obtainable through other means/real money/or even just free... At least that's my opinion.

But, with a lower player base, I feel the game should look to Focus on bringing more players back... Add something Big (and not just the behemoth lel). Not sure what. But just get people playing this game again. Even if it means working on small things, and just making the game better overall, and passively gaining players back, but work on it... Please!!!.... This is an AMAZING game.... It just needs a little more work to be a game you can player over and over again, and really enjoy with friends, random people, or even by yourself.

:)

Oh ya, and a personal thing.. A game mode with more people would be a for sure 10/10. ;)
1 monster is boring and lacks that teamwork that makes most multiplayer gameplay awesome.. Most people look for awesome big plays (especially in competitive play..) and big fights/combos/crazy things that are just awesome looking and crazy one shots and ExlpOOOsions and BOOM!! and.. well..... at the moments this game doesn't have any of that really.. Not sure how you would add it/tackle this, but having a team with more than 1 monster would be a great start... It would maybe call for bigger maps idk, but, more monsters, maybe more hunters, just make it a team based game on both sides not just for the hunters and I feel like you're solid.
IT'S A PERSONAL NOTE DOE.

Seriously though.. Imagine one monster knocks a guy up, then another one grabs it and uses another move, the coordination that would take is ridiculous, and it would look amazing! (People love flashy stuff)
X)
I'm done. <3
