I hate it. I like it.

Love it!

I saw this game weeks before it was released. I was really excited. I was so happy when it finally released and I could download it.
It has everything you would expect to like in a game: It looks gorgeous, you use a katana and can move around really well.
But in fact, you can't. In the third level, I was jumping between two walls and had to land on a walkway. But every time I jumped, without fail, I would fly too far and would just land in the water and die. And then I had to run half a mile to get there again. And I had to do this jump again. And I died again. And I did that for 20 - 30 deaths.
After I finally found out how to get this jump (just skip the second wallrun and just jump and dash). I came to the guards with the shields. Four guards constantly shooting at me while I had to destroy the blue balls and had to wait for my dash to finally be available again was just too annoying. At least after I died like 30 times there.

I like games that present a challenge, but this feels like it was intentionally made to be too difficult to get the hang of, unless you don't value achieving anything for hours just to learn one thing. And do this several times per level, so that after a 1000 hours of in-game time you can finally make that deathless run, at least for one level.

This game is a better-luck-next-time-Simulator. But not in the bad RNG way. It's more like trial and error.
You choose your outfit, you choose what you study, events happen and you have to react. That's basically it.
But every princess wants to be *the* queen, so after you have taken an arrow to the gut, had your life drained, have fallen victim to a monster, blown yourself up, let your blood run dry, chocked on magical chains, drowned at sea, cracked your skull, been blasted by magic, been poisoned, and have gotten too close to a sword over and over again you might become *the* queen someday.

Did you ever think to yourself while playing a multiplayer / coop game "man these guys are so bad..."?
Does this maybe happen regularly to you?

Then this is game for you!

Here is a coop game where your partners are yourself.
You spawn in a room with three other guys and you think "Oh man, three guys and all afk...".
You pick a weapon and try to finish a level since you are pro. Time is up - you failed.
But wait - you spawn in the same room again as one of the people you thought were afk.
You see your older self looking at you, blaming you for being afk - even though you are obviously not - pick a weapon and try to beat the level with your old self. If you are new to this game, you will fail, otherwise it is possible.

You get the pattern.

You play the same level up to 4 times with your older selfs. This idea alone is brilliant. The world you play in in is beatiful, the music is nice. The atmosphere is just coherent. Gameplay is smooth.
With skill and strategic thinking, you can beat all the levels easily. Then there are Arenas and Challenges.

Not often do I write a review for a game, but this game is worth the time.
Time Rifters' Concept is absolutely brilliant.
