Early Access Review
I discovered Playne while browsing through the upcoming releases on Steam and the game immediately caught my interest with its beautiful visuals. To admit, the idea of creating a video game about meditation didn't sound very appealing to me at first. However, as I started to read through the very detailed and well-written game description and learned more about the goal of this game, I was very intrigued and really wanted to give it a try. So, what's this game about?

Playne is an educational little indie game, whose ultimate goal is to teach you about meditation and the benefits you'll have from practising it on a daily basis. Right at the beginning you will meet the guardian of Playne, Fox, who will be your guide throughout the whole game. He may seem a little bit odd at first, but there is some interesting background story about him that you'll unlock when you level up your world. Currently, there are 2 Chapters for you to unlock, but probably more to come soon.

The meditation itself is pretty easy. You will have various techniques to choose from (at the moment there is only one technique available though). The memory technique lets you get aware of your breathing while also counting the amount of thoughts that are crossing your mind during your meditation session. How long you want to meditate is totally up to you and you can choose to pause or quit the exercise at any point. The minimum time for one session is 5 minutes, but it is recommended to do it for at least 10 minutes a day.

Since the game is still in Early Access, there will obviously be some bugs to be found. Personally, I haven't had any big issues other than little bugs like Fox or UI disappearing, which ultimately resulted in me having to quit the game using Alt+F4. However, the developer is eager to try and fix them all as soon as possible.

As with most things in life, Playne definitely won't be for everyone. While there's obviously already a lot of work behind it, some people might still be disappointed by its lack of actual content at the moment. But keep in mind that the game is still in a very early state and can only grow through constant feedback from the community. Personally, I can't wait to see how it will evolve in the future. I never would have considered to practise meditation if it wasn't for this game. As someone struggling with anxiety disorder, I usually have a hard time controlling my thoughts and feelings, but this game actually helps me to come at ease whenever I need it and for that I am very grateful. I really hope that Playne will help some of you as much as it helped me.

Thanks for reading.
