Robotics;Notes is the third mainline game in the Science Adventure franchise (if you don't know it, check it out), which has become one of my favorite franchises.

MY EXPERIENCE

I'm not a fan of slice of life or robotics, actually I pretty much hated these genres.
The first few chapters I was reading with inertia because I wanted to read Chaos;Child asap, but I wasn't really that happy, in fact I was pretty pissed off. Too many things that I wasn't interested, why in the hell would it interest me to try in participating in a battle bots tournament? And why was everything so slow? I knew that in the Elite re-release the pacing was improved, so I was scared to think the original R;N script.
This was until the end of Phase 5, which got me like: “Wh- what? Now I recognize Science Adventure, that's what I wanted from the beginning”, looking back I was foolish. It's a franchise based on build-up, all other entries were slow but sooner or later “exploded”. This game takes a loooong way to “explode”, but without the other phases it wouldn't have been the same.
This Visual Novel go at its own pace, so if you're afraid of the slowness, play it only when you want to feel like it. Don't rush it, just live the moment, live the island of Tanegashima, feel like a member of the island's community.
What went under my head for pretty much 7 chapters (or phases) was a perfect cast of (not only) teenagers, each character has its own personality, flaws, and values.

CONCLUSION

I'm pretty new to VNs. So far I only have experienced Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate, but I can say with all honesty that each of these three games is perfect in a way different from the other:
In C;H it's the horror, heavy mood and the psychological oriented plot.
In S;G the emotional transport and the burden of choices and consequences.
Yet, in R;N I couldn't get what was good until after finishing it, which left me empty. The setting is unique, you can really live and know the island like you were actually there. The cast is excellent.

In the end, I can only give this game a 9/10. If this had been my first game in the SciAdv I would have probably given more.
