Essentially Magic: the Gathering, but in ARPG format.

Really!
It has deckbuilding, trading, multiplayer, competitive elements, customization, massive lore & "metagame".
There's even foils and alternative art!

Your deck is your character. It has a certain way of achieving it's goal.
Deckbuilding is how you build your character.
Cards are the skill gems, the passive tree, and the gear you choose.
You can customize both by tweaking builds (tweaking decks) and by buying cosmetics (pimping your deck with foils, promos, specific art, etc.)
Trading in PoE works the same way! You either buy what you need for currency, or trade items for items (cards for cards), albeit a more rare occurence.
You have a competitive scene in the form of leagues. And different "formats" depending on what league you play.
Standard in PoE is not the permanent league called standard though, but rather the current temporary league. So don't get confused! PoEs permanent leagues are more like the eternal formats.

This is one of my all time favorites.
It was developed by Arkan Studios, also known for a little game called Dishonored. And you can tell. The game is pretty much Dishonored with orcs, dragons and magic. But I honestly prefer Dark Messiah over Dishonored. The story is good, the mechanics are great, and the choices are many.

I've spent countless of hours with the multiplayer. Even if it's probably not really balanced, it has given me many laughs and memorable moments.
In MP (vanilla servers) you choose from among a couple of classes, and gain levels up to 10.
Each level rewards you with skill points that you can spend in a skill tree. This gives you some versatility you would probably only expect from something like an MMORPG or Moba, not a first person action game like this. You can respec during the matches and change class however you want. This gives the matches some decent variety and there's a lot to try out.

I still today start this game from time to time, especially if I can get a couple of friends to join in, and then proceed to have a blast throwing huge balls of lightning at eachother, or backstab someone from the shadows.
