Extremely fun fighting game with a lot of elements reminiscent of older games like the X2 era Guilty Gear games and older King of Fighters games especially 2002. The characters are goofy, the story is basically an afterthought, but the game is fun and has interesting ideas like a chef grappler. Unfortunately the online is delay based netcode which combined with a small playerbase means you need friends and/or to join a discord for consistent matchmaking. There is a surprising amount of single player content here and there's a good wiki for it at mizuumi that makes learning this game a bit easier.

It's definitely not for everyone but if you enjoy fighting games and can put up with some at times disgustingly high damage or wild mixups there's a lot this game has to offer. I've competed in this game offline on multiple occasions and it's been some of the most fun I've had with a fighting game.

The actual game is good, but the current development and art teams are not being ran by the original lead dev or artist anymore. The Fillia sprite changes were for the most part a good thing (why was she 16 years old to begin with?), and the Parasoul changes can be debated. Parasoul's changes also unfortunately removed the Persona 3 armbands from her Mitsuru recolor. Big Band's story changes are both removing a robocop reference and lessening his story. They removed artwork from a DLC artbook you have to pay money for separately. They also removed a free optional announcer due to both it being a joke about Russians and being voiced by the earlier mentioned removed lead developer. Lastly this is personal opinion but wanting over triple the cost of the game for a 4 character season pass, 10 years into the games lifespan really rubs me the wrong way. Them changing the price of skullgirls to always include 2nd encore and increasing it by $15 doesn't mask that fact.

I cannot overstate the actual game is good, and the netcode is genuinely top 3 of any fighting game I've ever played. But removing content from an optional DLC people paid for, changing some story elements and art, and increasing the price of the game on top of having a 4 character DLC that costs more than the game isn't something I can support. Also my hours on steam don't reflect how much I've actually played the game, I also bought it on PS3 and 360 and have played it occasionally at in person events since 2017.
