A Cold War Fever Dream With 230+ hours in WARNO, I can confidently say this is the best RTS for Cold War warfare that I have played. It takes everything great about Wargame: Red Dragon and refines it—better mechanics, and a battlefield that feels alive.

Gameplay? Tactical, punishing, and rewarding. You can’t brute-force your way to victory—infantry, tanks, airpower, and artillery all have to work together. If you forget AA, you’ll regret it. If you don’t respect ATGMs, you’ll regret that too. The game forces you to think with your brain and when your plan works, it’s incredibly satisfying.

Graphics and sound? Top-tier for an RTS. Vehicles are detailed, explosions feel heavy, and when jets roar overhead, you feel it. The game captures that Cold War tension perfectly—one bad decision, and suddenly, your forces are burning.

Multiplayer is absolute chaos, in the best way. 10v10 matches are pure adrenaline, with plans falling apart and last-minute heroics deciding the fight. Some players coordinate beautifully, others charge into disaster—it’s all part of the experience. Army General mode is where WARNO truly shines as a strategic wargame, blending operational planning with real-time battles. Think of it as Cold War-era chess, except your pawns are mechanized battalions, and a single bad move can cost you an entire frontline.

Playing with friends makes it even better—coordinating offensives, setting up ambushes, and arguing over who forgot to do what adds another layer of chaos and fun. One moment, you're pushing deep into enemy territory with a flawless maneuver; the next, your buddy's sector collapses, and suddenly, you're both scrambling to hold the line. Every decision matters, and every battle feels like part of a larger, unfolding campaign.

Simply put, it’s the best way to experience WARNO’s depth, mixing high-level strategy with intense, unpredictable combat.
9/10 – Would watch my VDV get shot down again.

Empire: Total War is more than just a game—it's a gateway to history, strategy, and immersive warfare. As someone who has spent over 2000 hours playing (plus hundreds more offline), I can confidently say this is my favorite Total War title and the reason I got into both Steam and historical strategy gaming.

The game masterfully combines grand strategy with real-time battles, offering an expansive 18th-century world to conquer. The turn-based campaign is rich in depth, with economic management, diplomacy, and trade playing just as crucial a role as battlefield tactics. The naval combat—introduced for the first time in the series—is a standout feature, adding another layer of strategic depth.

If there’s one thing I wish was improved, it would be the economic system. While functional, it lacks the depth of games like Port Royale or Victoria. That being said, this is a Total War game, so the focus remains on warfare and grand strategy rather than intricate economic simulations.

Even after a decade of owning Empire: Total War, I keep coming back to it. The game brings back a lot of nostalgia for me, reminding me why I fell in love with historical strategy games in the first place. Whether it’s the engaging campaigns, massive battlefields, or the intricate details of military history, this game captures the essence of 18th-century warfare like no other. If you're a fan of history, strategy, or simply love a game with incredible replayability, Empire: Total War is a must-play classic.

I can only hope that Creative Assembly gives us Empire: Total War 2 one day. With modern technology, a sequel could refine and expand on everything that made the original great—improving the AI, deepening the economic system, expanding the map, and making naval combat even more immersive. The 18th century is a fascinating and underexplored era in strategy gaming, and I believe Empire 2 would be an absolute masterpiece. If Creative Assembly listens to the fans, I have no doubt it would be a dream come true for Total War veterans like myself.
