I previously thought that Fallen Order is the best Star Wars game out there. As far as I'm concerned, Jedi Survivor now holds that title, as it improves on the original in just about every way. The sole downside was the performance at launch, which has fortunately been largely fixed as of today. The game play has been massively expanded by adding several light saber stances and abilities, without taking away anything that Cal had at the end of the last game. The new levels are much larger semi-open worlds with tons of exploration and side quests. Most importantly, Respawn proved again that it's possible to create new, well written Star Wars stories and characters while paying homage to all the source material that came before it.

For me, this felt like the perfect followup to 0 and Kiwami 1. It has surprise returning characters and numerous callbacks to the previous games, which pay off in spades if you have played both. The cabaret club finale was probably my favorite story moment due to a certain reunion between characters, which I won't spoil. The mini-game selection is still fantastic; both Cabaret Grand Prix and Majima Construction deserve a shoutout for being addicting as hell. The main story definitely meanders at points, but has strong character arcs throughout and a powerful finale. Also, the quality of the sub stories has improved from Kiwami 1 and is much closer to the level of 0. The new combat system takes some getting used to, but it's incredibly satisfying once you get the hang of it.

Even though I think 0 is an overall stronger entry, Kiwami 2 is doing so much right in terms of it's presentation and world building that it feels just as good, if not better in certain places.

A lot of people praise this game for it's great story, absurd amount of detailed mini-games, and hilarious side quests - all very true. For me, one of the most amazing things is how they didn't license any 80's music for disco and karaoke. Instead, they literally just made a dozen or so original tracks for the game which are legitimately so good, they could easily pass as being pop hits from the 80's.

This game was very educational for me. I used to think being Yakuza was mostly about the criminal underworld, illegal business activity, and a life of honor. Thanks to Ichiban, I now know that it mostly consists of assaulting random homeless people, working for prostitution rings, and playing mahjong in your spare time.
