Tried this game out during free weekend. My background is that I have been playing multiple coop shooters/ horde shooters a lot with my friends, and I have almost 200 hrs according to steam stats in Nmrih 1. I always loved the atmosphere in Nmrih 1 that I couldn't get in any other game, the oppressing dread that comes from slowly trying to progress through the hordes, the methodical gameplay to try to outsmart the zombies, and the inevitable death. All is to say that Nmrih 1 has been at times my comfort game.

I was excited for Nmrih 2 ever since I first saw the first announcements 10 years ago. But when it launched, I was devastated by the reception. People were bashing the game, and at the time it felt for the right reasons. I shrugged it off as a another failed launch that was released too early, or the direction the game was heading was wrong, or something else.

But now that I have played this game at this state, I can safely say that I am glad I purchased this game. It took me a while to get used to the game because I was trying to play it like I was playing Nmrih 1. But when I started to think about what I was doing wrong, and started to adjust my tactics, a new game started to emerge. One that has the same concept as Nmrih 1, but the execution is a little bit different. I was getting more confident about my game style, I started to learn the maps better and realized that teamplay is ESSENTIAL for survival. There's still a lot of critiques for this game, like how there is very little tutorials explaining the multiple gameplay mechanics, or bugs here or there. But these are things that are fixable, and if you give this game some time to grow on you and learn it, I feel like some people can find a fun game inside. I sure did, and I hope this game can become as much of a comfort game for me as Nmrih 1 did.
