A neat little game about 'monster girl' type maids running a cafe... the catch is they're very tiny.

It's definitely got charm and love put into it, and plays very smoothly. I'm a bit surprised by the complexity and length of the game overall, which is very good. A good bit of subtle references that compliment the game and don't feel out of place, a fun and optional minigame bonus area, lots of unlockable costumes, the character interactions. It's all great.

I will protect Holly with my life at any time. She's simply too precious of a bean!

Absolutely worth the wait, and will certainly be worth the wait for future chapters! Lotta depth to chapter 1 alone, worth hours of playtime to see all it has to offer. And even then I probably missed a few things. Keep it up, Joel G!

It's been through hell and back, but in the end it still lives on.

I got this game as an early Birthday gift from a friend during the sale. I'd always looked at getting Stray sometime, but the price kept me away. The game is rather short overall, which validated this point.

However, the game is rather adorable, fun, and has a very touching story on-top of it all. I never really felt detached from anything and came to like all the characters. Stray is a game that I'd say is nice to play every now and then for a palette cleanser from bad or distasteful games by just enjoying being a fluffy little orange cat going around and causing some non-harmful mayhem.

However, I also highly recommend waiting for it to go on sale. While I love the game, I cannot in good conscious say it's entirely worth $30 at base price. $20 would have been suiting for the starter, of which is what it usually is worth on a sale.

All the same, this game left me wanting more even if the story is basically already nicely wrapped up.

Remember the sacrifices of Malevelon Creek, and of all the other systems. Fight on, Helldivers!

- Edit, May 5th, 2024.

- Dear Sony, while I originally grew up playing Playstation until I moved to PC, unkindly buzz off from making stupid business decisions to just try to make your numbers look good.

-We've won, Helldivers. However, remain cautious for any future attempts of trickery.

After playing the first Call of Juarez not that long ago I can say for certain that the sequel is, to probably not many people's surprise, a much better experience. A brief synopsis will be as follows:

What I liked:
- Gunplay is much better
- Weapon variety is bigger (though most guns are just upgraded versions of the same one)
- Concentration mode got a bit of an overhaul for normal gameplay, and is different for both characters
- Ray and Thomas both have distinctive playstyles that add to replayability
- For most missions, you have the choice of who you want to play as
- In some sections of the game you have 'down time' where you can freely explore a large map with some random encounters (though for a game made in 2009, it's pretty much all combat encounters), and also take wanted posters at a gunstore as sidequests you can earn money from doing, which can be used to upgrade your gear.
- The old janky melee system was removed (It was a good concept, but just not properly implemented in the first game).
- MAJOR graphical improvement from the first game. Caught myself blanking out at the backdrop scenery quite a few times.
- The whip climbing mechanic was made a lot better in this game.
- The OST in this game is great.
- The story is phenomenal and well written on its own, and is even better when combined with the first game's story.

What I had slight gripes with:
- More often than not, the dueling system sometimes felt unresponsive. The key is to move your mouse to your gun when you hear the bell go off, but often I found the game barely registering my mouse's movements to the gun, causing my guy to fumble for the holster. Maybe I was just moving the mouse too fast for the game to keep up with? Not sure.
- Ray's armor doesn't give you any kind of protection bonus like in the first game, you take just as much damage as Tommy does.
- As much as I'm used to the whole 'hide for a few seconds to recover health' system a lot of games use, I miss the old 'find a health kit' system like the first game had.
- The 'Kick' attack from the first game was removed. No more visible boots to the doors when you bust them open. Big sad.

Overall a really solid game. Definitely recommend trying it out just once if nothing else. I do also recommend playing the first game first. While I usually like to play / watch stuff chronologically, I think this game works a lot better in sequential from release date.

Despite what some of the negative reviews I looked at, before wishlisting, say about this game, I think it holds up well. Think I only heard about this series in passing many years ago, never played it or really saw anything about it until the steam spring sale a couple weeks ago or so. Thought it looked interesting, so I decided I wanted to try it. Overall I enjoyed my experience with my first run-through of the game.

It's a product of 2005, so I didn't expect it to really hand-hold me through the learning curves, and boy were a couple of the very simple ones challenging for a few minutes, like learning the tree branch whip swinging mechanic. Talk about first time Half-Life: Opposing Force rope climbing vibes.

On the whole with tweaking the base graphics settings for maximum beauty, and managing to adjust the control scheme to accommodate my PS5 controller, the game played very smoothly and looked really well too. It's an enjoyable western with a story that's pretty well written, and characters that are certainly memorable. For anyone wondering if experiencing the game first-hand is worth it, I'd say yes. For even just a 1-time playthrough to say 'I played it', if nothing else. As is the recurring advice on many games; 'just wait for it to go on sale'.

My only real issues with the game:
1) The game suffers a bit from 'mid 2000s jank'. Controls / overall gameplay can feel a bit clunky and slow.

2) Fist fighting combat is awkward and clunky, but can easily be cheesed once you learn the mechanics.

3) Getting stuck on geometry for longer than you're willing to just 'brush off' can be a bit of a common occurrence. Especially when horseback riding.

Final heads up:
A lot of cutscenes and dialogue will 'break' if you let the game run at anything higher than the originally intended 30FPS. Cutscenes are sped up with higher framerate, leading to heavy dialogue cut-offs as the script tries to keep the words matching the lip movements. To resolve this, right click the game in the library, go to properties, and under 'Launch Options', type in +fps_max30. This works with any steam game (I think. Don't quote me).

Sorry-Notsorry to everyone who likes their games capped out at like 200 fps at all times for that 'modern feel', but older games like this were simply not made to handle this kind of framerate and will give you a crappier experience if you try to keep everything at as high a framerate as possible. You wanna enjoy playing older games? Learn to deal with their technical limitations and get the proper experience on what they were like back then.

Its a great game, and a fine addition to FromSoft's lineup of bangers... if you can withstand the learning curves.
