Early Access Review
Halls of Torment, while still in early access currently, modifies and heavily improves upon the survivor formula, to the point where it feels like it’s the next evolution of the genre as a whole. While it may be lacking in amount of content due to its early access status, the already existing content has such a level of depth that other survivor-likes don't really have.

The first and most prevalent change is wholly unique survivors, called heroes. Unlike other survivor-likes with each new character only having stat changes and a different starting weapon, Halls of Torment’s heroes have their own personal weapon that only they can use, which fundamentally makes each hero play very differently from one another. In addition to this, the trait system employed by the game gives each hero different paths to take and ways to experience runs. All heroes have universal traits they can upgrade upon level up (example: speed or health), but some heroes have different values for the same traits (a character focused on speed will have an innate upgrade to all speed traits and downgrade to health traits.) Not only that, but heroes themselves also have personalized traits, such as a hero having the trait choice to get their weapon reach farther or have more damage in a smaller area. Keep in mind that this is only a very bare bones explanation, as I think experiencing all the options yourself for the first time is a true joy to figure out.

Now onto the actual damage dealing options one has. As far as weapons go, there are none. You have your hero’s unique weapon to upgrade and that’s it. So unlike other similar games, you can’t stack weapons upon weapons or create combinations. Halls of Torment instead has Abilities you can obtain from golden scrolls. There are always a few scrolls scattered around the map at the start of a run and sometimes they’ll drop from elite enemies. All heroes have the same pool of abilities that can be chosen from, meaning you can experiment in various ways. Depending on the synergy of your main weapon or desired play style, though, you’ll probably want certain abilities over others.

There are a few other mechanics unique to Halls of Torment, however I think I’ll let you discover those on your own. Halls of Torment is an ever growing game that’s just waiting to take survivor-likes by storm. I’ve already dumped a number of hours into this game and I intend to keep up with it as we get more content. I’m very much looking forward to the game finally emerging from its early access title, good luck and have fun surviving the Halls.

Pretty good reintroduction to the FNaF series and a new perspective as a whole with the different gameplay. Game itself is fun with a solid enough story, only complaint is some poor optimization and bugs, but hopefully it won't be a problem at all down the line when they fix more stuff.

Really great story and fun gameplay (if you like JRPGs). Never played a Persona game before, but this is an excellent place to start
