The revival of Survival Horror?

The amazing things

Story

The story is split into two perspectives the perspective of Leon (Scenario A) and the perspective of Claire (Scenario B). To get the full Story and the true ending you need to complete both Scenarios, but after beating one of them you get a New Game + type mode which speeds up the game a lot for you, and gives you some new challenges.

The story is pretty amazing and both Scenarios kept me wanting to find out more. Since these games are from the Remake Universe they obviously differ a bit from the originals but, they don't change it too much to make it feel weird.

Quick Summary:

Leon S. Kennedy a Rookie police officer, arriving a day too late in Racoon City to begin his new job at the Racoon City Police Department, has a terrible first day at his new job, the City is overrun by Zombies and he has to get through all of this to find a way to find out what happened and then leave this place.

Claire Redfield, the sister of the S.T.A.R.S Member Chris Redfield is looking for her brother and arrives in Racoon City to find ou t about his whereabouts after not getting answers from him. As she arrives she notices the city has been overrun and quickly goes to the Racoon City Police Department in which her brother was last seen at his work.

The Gameplay

The gameplay feels like a modernized version of the old school survival horror genre. It combines a dreadful and scary atmosphere with managing your bullets and healing items. And successfully creates a scary remake of the old games.
The game features freely explorable interconnected levels which often require backtracking which are very rewarding. You can always go to previously completed rooms.

The zombies feel truely scary, and keep getting back up even after pretending to be dead. Also they react to their environments, if you shoot them in the leg they fall on the floor and sometimes even get cought falling against a wall, also you can take of their limbs with higher calibre guns or with your combat knifes. You never can truely be sure a zombie won't stand up again.. until you shoot them multiple times.

Mr X. the creepiest and most amazing part of this game. Imagine being followed by an immortal snail that always is on your tails but you always outrun it... now replace that with a giant guy that is bent on killing you and isn't afraid of following you a bit faster.. So anyway after some time there will always be this unkillable muscular guy that keeps following and looking for you in the police department, only the safe rooms are safe( its in the name).

The not so cool things

Sadly some content from the original was cut and we didn't get two additional scenarios that existed in the original game.
You will be disappointed if you play Resident Evil 3 Remake right after finishing this game.
Scenario A and B have some pretty big continuity errors

My honest opinion

This game is an amazing horror game that offers a lot of replay value, and has to be finished at least 2 times for its full story and glory. The different areas are seamlessly connected and you never know if the corridor is truely safe or if theres a new threat waiting for you.
I really loved finishing this game and never felt like it was a drag or chore playing this game.

I will give this game a 9/10 for its amazing gameplay and spooky atmospheres that truely spooked me often and it also being a good remake of the oldschool survival horror genre.

How can you ♥♥♥♥ up this badly?

Whats wrong with the game

I can't believe how much they fumbled the bag with this game. They had a perfect thing layed out for them. After the amazing previous Remake of Resident Evil 2, all they had to do is give us a similar creepy and helpless feeling game located in Racoon City but what did we get? Right something that feels like a DLC that is inferior and just rips away some cool things you liked in the base game.

You might think that it isn't that bad but trust me.. I went in unbiased after finishing the previous Remake.

The things they took

Zombies don't fall anymore when you shoot them in the foot, thus not allowing you to get past them without killing them.
The atmosphere doesn't feel remotely as scary as in Resident Evil 2 Remake.
No replayability.... Not giving us any Scenario B so no 2nd run needed.
Making Nemesis a Scripted Encounter instead of a constant threat that could come at any time.
Taking away the openness of the world and giving us an extremely linear game.
Removing the Clock Tower which was pretty amazing and iconic in the OG game.

The story

They loosely based the story on the plot of the OG, but completely changed things that just became questionable... but i won't list them all..

My honest Opinion

Playing this after finishing Resident Evil 2 Remake is one of the biggest disappointments you can experience in gaming.
I was so hyped to have Nemesis as an even scarier version of Mr X constantly being a threat but what i got was 2 or 3 scripted encounters with him that were over quickly. The worst part is this game is 4-5 hours long... In my first run.... It took me 10 hours to beat the first run in Resident Evil 2 Remake.... and even the 2nd run took me longer than Resident Evil 3 Remake.

This is so disappointing how could you fail at such an easy task? And i actually thought Capcom cared about its fans but with this rushed money grab of a game, I am sure they didn't. The best part is that this is a full price game at 40€ when it just feels like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLC for RE2 Remake which in itself just takes away mechanics. If you truely need to play it then buy it in a sale or buy a key but full price definately isn't worth it.

Do yourself a favour and play Resident Evil 2 Remake which is an amazing Survival Horror game.

This game gets a 5/10 for still being a decent game which sadly felt like a downgrade from Reisdent Evil 2 Remake.

Rating 5/10

This is gonna be a longer review... Skip the first part if you only want to hear about the game.

Extreme Yap session:
First, this is my first experience with the mainline SMT games. I have however played Persona 5 Royale before, but never finished it because I didn't really like the school setting and the talking. I know thats the main point of the games, but when I first stumbled on this game I was instantly interested in it.. Bought it, started it and got completely destroyed at the beginning after the hospital.

So I didn't enjoy it and then left it in my library for a year. And then I decided to give this game another chance. And, damn that was such a good decision. This time, I actually gave the game a chance and got immediately hooked by the dark and isolating atmosphere. Although, I never really was the greatest fan of turn based RPG games this one is so different.

The Press Turn System is so amazing. You can increase your turns, by critting or hitting the enemies weaknesses? That is so amazing.

Also the difficulty, as a Dark Souls fan I really like those games that are hard if you are new to them and make you suffer, but as you begin to understand the game and how everything works they actually become managable and even easy ( not Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne tho Trumpeteer is a little..... ).

So yeah as a fan of making things harder than they should be I decided to go for the hardest ending in my first run of the game and actually managed to beat TDE. That was such a journey....

So for the game itself, It is a typical JRPG with a little twist, instead of fighting monsters and dragons, you fight demons with the assistance of....demons. Not your typical JRPG companions right?

The Story without spoiling too much:
The world is doomed by an apocalyptic event and now you try to survive the aftermath of the apocalypse. While finding out the truth about why it happened and how the future of the world might look like.

Meanwhile, you wander the world to find out about those different visions the world in the future might become, such as a world in which the strong reign and the weak get sorted out. Or a world in which everyone will be in their perfect world but lonely. Or everyone will be one with the world. However, you can also just ignore those ways and find your own way. Or perhaps, there might be something else lurking?

Gameplay:
So anyway, you start out weak and get stronger and stronger as the game progresses. You talk to demons and either get scammed by them or actually mangage to befriend them and get them to join your party. And then after some time you can fuse them to get even stronger demons.

Isn't that cool? Well that's not all, you can also do an even cooler fusion, in which you sacrifice one demon to get a stronger demon.

Another yap session including some spoilers now be warned:

After finishing the TDE and beating the great evil glowing head and then beating the great deceiver . I must say, it has been a long time since a game last got me to invest so much time in not just playing the game but also looking into the Fusion Chart to get the Demons I want.

And now that the game over, I am happy I already bought Shin Megami Tensei V Vengance so I have my next journey on the horizon...I might even give Persona another try, although I prefer the straightforwardness of Shin Megami Tensei. And I will definately check out IV and Apocalypse on the 3DS.

So for the finale I will give its core elements a score rating:

Story: 8/10
It's a simple story but in a good way. It doesn't hold your hand and has some nice twists you won't expect. The different endings are actually worth mutliple playthroughs.

Gameplay: 10/10
The gamplay is where this game truely shines. The Press Turn Battle System is the best Turn Based system I have ever seen and its the most fun one. Also fusing demons is pretty satisfying and a fun thing to do. Its like a Gatcha game but without spending all your money.

Difficulty: Dark Souls (Normal Mode) / Pain (Hard Mode)
Yes I know giving the game a Dark Souls difficulty is stupid but it truely is similar in a way. Never giving up and learning the game will truely make the game amazing just like in Dark Souls.

If you get one shot by a boss, don't get angry or frustrated, laugh it off and fuse demons for a bit and then come back kicking the bosses ass. But that only counts for normal mode, well Hard Mode... Oh boy that one will make you go through the hell and back (Pun intended).

The Bad Things of the Game:

First off the music is compressed and after a while it just gets...... annoying and nauseating so the solution is to install a mod that replaces the music... This will greatly enhance your experience.

Also for an HD Remaster it really has some low res textures a lot of the times but you really won't be noticing them because you will be disturbed by the extreme amount of Random Encounters which at some point will become unbearable without skills or items to make them lesser. (Which are btw timed and you always have to watch the time in game or you will waste them).

Other than that the game for me is one of those games you will never forget. I am a bit sad I didn't get into Shin Megami Tensei earlier. Also the game is featuring Dante from the Hit Series Devil May Cry (If you buy the Maniax DLC).

So yeah, enjoy the game and have fun. Also remember, never forget to use your buffs!

Thanks for reading the review.

I can't stop playing. So this is what a peak game feels like?

After playing BT1 and 3 on the PS2 a long time ago this game just completely returns me to those times.

The game is a straight 10/10. However, there are just some small things that I dislike. For example, the small amount of stages which mostly are just the same stage with daytime differences. The soundtrack isn't nearly as good as the old Budokai Tenkaichi games. Although, I guess it has to do with nostalgia, so its fine.

But on the bright side, the combat is fast paced and feels good.
The characters models look like they are ripped out of the Anime, that's very impressive.
The What If stories, although many are short are pretty cool.
The create your own story battles mode is also extremely cool and something I never saw in an Anime fighting game before.

It exceeded my expectations which made this game the GOTY for me.

This is what everyone wanted Xenoverse to be.

This is one of the best Space Exploration games out there, it sure had a rough start but nowadays after 7 years (2023) they have truly delivered on their promises and the game has so much content. The best thing about this game is that it constantly recieves big updates and it never gets boring with all the things you can do. Honestly a 10/10 game for me.

Best MMO in terms of freedom, you want to be a wizard that uses a two handed greatsword, its possible and even strong, you want to be a necromancer that is a vampire, also possible. This might be my favourite MMO because it really has a great immersion. If you can look past the overwhelming amount of DLC that are pretty overpriced then this game really offers a great amount of fun for a long time.

After playing this game for a while now (200+ hours). I would like to update my opinion on the game.

At first I didn't like this game and it's performance was very bad. But now this game really feels pretty solid.

Especially after they added Immortal Empires this game started giving me the feeling I had while playing the old games and I became Immersed into the Warhammer Fantasy world again.

The game had a really rough start, and the Initial Campaign was very repetetive. But now this game has really changed for the better even though Skarbrand is completely Overpowered.

I am looking forward to the future and I am willing to give this game a 8/10 (Will probably go up after they finally give us Nagash)
