Overall, this game deserves a hell of a lot more love. The art style is incredibly unique and the game itself is just so much fun to play. It's more than worth the price. Details below.

This game simply feels incredible to play, there's really not a better way to say it. Just playing the game made me wanna shadow box in front of my screen. The characters are all great and like-able, as is the story, and both very rarely interfere negatively with the game. The subtle details of the story and the world are woven in very well to the overall progression.

MINOR SPOILERS
However, I'm not a huge fan of the random encounters combined with with the labyrinthine level design, often I would lose my bearing of where I was or what I was doing because of a random encounter. The only other problem I had was that a handful of the mechanics felt awkward, useless, or downright bad. For example, giving seemingly useless materials to some NPCs for a blurb of dialogue, only to find out much later you could've traded that material in for the far more valuable glyph chip.

I recommend this game, but not as a continuation of the alpha version.

Cube World has grown in a very strange way since it's Alpha, and as an Alpha backer from way back then, I'm truthfully a bit disappointed at how much the game has changed since then.

It's a different game. It simply is not what it used to be.

That being said, this "new" Cube World is a wonderful and creative new game in it's own right. The mechanic of region-locking equipment is incredibly bold, and as a means to the end of creating an infinite generation RPG, it is quite effective. Due to your equipment being locked, you grow attached to each region individually, the importance of which cannot be overstated, ESPECIALLY in an infinite generation RPG.

However, like most things, this new Cube World comes with disadvantages. The lack of a skill tree murders any sense of class/specialization progression. There's really no reason to stick to a specialization, or class, as you gain no advantages from it. You can switch to a different character at any time and will be, more or less, in the same situation power-wise. All "permanent" modifications are done in the form of relics, which change things like your climbing speed and lamp radius. These changes to your character are laughable at best. The relics are supposed to be permanent buffs but they barely change you at all. They even have hard caps, meaning that even after gathering 1,700 lamp buffs, you'll barely have gotten to a 10m lamp radius from a 5m lamp radius.

There needs to be a stronger sense of permanent progression. Bringing back skill trees is a great way to solve a lot of these issues. Let relics give the character skill points to use in the skill tree. This will give classes/specs a sense of progression as well as the character's power and the world as a whole.

All in all, Cube World is a unique game that I would recommend to anyone who wants a fresh take on infinite generation games or RPGs, but to truly enjoy it, you have to forgot any notion of the previous Cube World. This game is different. It has it's problems, which can be fixed with time. The creators have shown love for this game since it's re-emergence, and I personally have hope that this game sees many frequent updates, as the potential for this game and it's new mechanics is incredible.

Very quick gameplay that takes a long time to get used to, but when you do, this game becomes really fun.
