This is a fully priced game with a battlepass, it's disgusting.

You used to be able to buy games where everything was available to you just by playing. Nowadays everything has become "live service" and half the content is locked behind grinding for no reason other than make you spend time and money here and nowhere else.

I understand having a free to play game where you need to monetize it somehow, but in a AAA full priced game?, I'm so done with big studios for this exact same reason, it's pure unfiltered greed. It really makes me sad because this will only get worse since most people just put up with it.

It's now been given for free, along with the episodes, as well as Half-Life 1 last year. There's no excuse not to play this, and I think everyone should at some point in their life to truly understand how far ahead of everybody else they were. Absolutely recommended.

Everyone seems to be in love with this game... I can't say I feel the same, I wish I could. Here are my main gripes with the game, some have to do with the way it's designed so it's not something I feel they'll ever fix, sadly. Here it is:

- Having to re-calibrate the player's height constantly -
It doesn't stay calibrated while playing. If you crouch (or happen to jump for some reason) it changes. They've mapped R3 to quickly re-calibrate it, but I shouldn't have to be doing it constantly, and I see myself having to do it very frequently, too much in fact. In other VR games when I set my height it stays there, and if it changes I only need to re-calibrate it once for that session, not every 5 minutes. This is a big issue.

- Floaty arms -
This is one I truly hate... they're trying to do physical arms so they gave them weight, but they feel incredibly heavy. It is so bad that they lag behind your real arms even when you're not holding anything. If they went with a Boneworks/Swords & Sorcery feel where they are close if not 1:1 when you aren't holding anything or what you're holding is very light (knives, flashlight, journal, small items...) the feel of the game would improve tenfold in my opinion. They went overboard with it, and when swinging something heavy it's even worse, it actually prevents me from wanting to use axes, bats, shotguns... it doesn't feel right.

- Crouching -
The biggest issue regarding this has been fixed... somewhat, let me explain: when they game launched the only way you could crouch was pressing a button, so people asked them to allow us to physically crouch. They listened (props for that) and now you can use whichever one you prefer interchangeably even without having to select one on the settings. The issue is that when you physically crouch the character doesn't go far enough, the scaling is really weird. Verticality issues seems to be a trend in this game.

- Cool enough levels, not enough interaction/variation -
There isn't much more to say about this, the levels are what you would expect from the Walking Dead universe... but 90% of the items you see on your first two days will be pretty much what you find all the time. Not too much of a con since I can't ask them to have hundreds of different items so every level has unique ones, but it can get very samey.

- HUD -
BIG con here: when picking something up from the floor, if it's close enough to you you'll very likely pick up a gun you have holstered, a knife you have on your hip, your flashlight, or your journal. The menu is far enough from your actual body to get in the way, it's madness. Other games have done this way better, again, I'd recommend the Boneworks way of doing it to be the best we've gotten in VR right now.

- Saving items in your inventory -
It's easy enough: pick an item and put it over your left shoulder, right?, almost, since your hands have inertia you'll throw the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing backwards and it won't be saved in your inventory. Not really an issue with the way the inventory is handled, but again how the arm physics are done. Considering that saving things to your inventory is arguably the thing you'll be doing the most in this game it is unacceptable.

- Stealth and human enemies -
One of the main type of missions is travelling to a specific place and finding intel hidden there using a photograph as a clue. You'll find that the place the intel is hidden in will be guarded by enemies, and there's hardly a way to actually sneak around any of them. One or two NPCs will patrol around but the rest wont, and even those that do patrol will be almost impossible to kill without the use of a gun, but a that point you'll likely alert everyone nearby... and chances are you're pretty much dead. It's not satisfying, it's not well done, you can hardly say the mechanic is even implemented, so you'll have to kill everyone and they have incredible aim. A necessary mechanic that doesn't even work properly.

There are more cons I could talk about, but I'm done with this review right now, I'll update this if I find them worth pointing out. It's a good game with very big issues at least for me personally. I'd recommend it if you're okay with all of this, otherwise you won't enjoy the gameplay past killing a few zombies.

Having just started I'm really disappointed with this game... and I know I'm not going to continue playing at least for now.

I was expecting this game to be good... and it is, but there are some glaring issues on the technical side that let it down to the point of 'why bother playing' since it's going to crash and suffer from audio issues constantly. The animations are great, the story seems interesting (even though it's just the start of the game), it oozes style, but I expected a way better port considering the amount of positive reviews it has.

I've tried a lot of fixes for the issues I'm talking about, and none of them actually work. It freezes a little bit further into the game every time I play, but I'm not going to lose my progress from my last save point to repeat the same thing again knowing it's going to freeze/crash 1-2 minutes after the point it did before, and repeat the cycle over and over.

Hopefully I can play it in the future, enjoy it, maybe even give it a positive review, but as of now if you're going to play the game... play it on console.

One of my favourite games ever made.

A great improvement on the first game. Great singleplayer and co-op campaigns.

It's amongst the best FPS games ever made, one of the best f2p titles available, with great memorable characters that actually play differently, great sense of humor and high quality writing, customizable classes to fit your gameplay style, fun modes (official and community-made)... etc, and very importantly a pioneer for all other games, specially class-based, that came after.
