I think the game is fine. You really have to look at how much this game is costing you and using that as a way to gauge the value of your experience in this game. Most of the negative reviews make good points. But from what's here, and seeing that it's only going to improve with future updates, I don't see why we need to nitpick at it. (Other than technical issues like bugs or crashes, those make sense.)

The one negative that I will say is that it's fairly easy to tell that stealth was NOT a big topic in development. While I think the strike system is really nice and forgiving, it just feels like there is too much going on for stealth to be a viable option in most cases. The RNG element of heists does give great replayability, but, sometimes it can set things up for stealth to absolutely not work at all. The biggest way to show this is by trying to solo stealth. It just doesn't work most of the time, which is a shame honestly. I think doing loud heists is fun, don't get me wrong, but I do want stealth to be an actual secure choice when I'm playing heists.

I'm having fun with it personally. Good game, really fun with friends.

I've been playing since before 1.0 (not sure when) and can say that this game is a lot of fun in what it has to offer. However, there are two gripes that I have with the game that I will now list below.

Single Player

I'm not entirely sure about this one. I see people saying that single player is easy, but I seem to have difficulty even on the first rank and I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong. This gets amplified by the fact that me and my two other friends can clear (so far, we don't play that often) up to rank five. In single player It just seems overwhelming in some fights and my movement constantly feels limited, so I'm forced to go for certain builds to get far enough to get anything accomplished. This might be entirely a skill issue on my part. Yet, if the only way that I'm going to progress in a run is by having a semi-specific overpowered build, I feel like it removes the fun of trying new things unless I'm playing with other people. Again, I don't really know how to approach this gripe, it just feels like you need too specific of a run to defeat the villain in single player and that doesn't feel good to me at all, I guess.

Story and Quests

I'm going to start out blunt and say that this story is all over the place in my eyes. There just isn't one thing that I can focus on since I'm getting dialogue and quests from 3-5 different people in the span of five minutes and things just seem to blend together. So, I end up being confused and just uninterested in what's going on.

Speaking of quests, wow, there is a lot, and they can be quite specific (and sometimes quite difficult) to the point that I was checking back to my book to make sure I was taking the right items and getting to specific areas to complete them. I can't tell if the idea was that these were supposed to get done naturally as you played runs or if you were supposed to have a session where you were just starting runs to complete quests and then abandoning them so you could complete the next part of that same quest. The biggest problem that I have with this idea is that, with the 1.0 release, there is a new endgame villain. To the best of my knowledge, you have to complete a lot of quests to get to a specific questline in order to unlock this villain. I personally don't agree with this strategy as I was really excited to fight this boss with friends, and now more time has to be spent just for us to unlock it? I just don't understand what the move was there. Hiding the main villain of the game behind hours of quests just feels like bloat in my eyes.

Ending notes

These are just my opinions, and I could be completely in the minority with my issues. This game is fun and has good variety and I don't think it's bad. I think I just either misunderstand what I'm supposed to do and the grand story that's going on in this game or maybe the game needs more time to rough out the edges and I'm just hitting said edges.

Overall: 6.5

Having played through all levels I can safely say the game is worth it in terms of content. Not only did I find the commander mode (single player) to be enjoyable, but the replay value is great when playing with others as well. The story behind this game is deep and interesting, but you do need to look for it, which can cause more time in levels. Yet, you could also get a good grasp by just playing normally and watching some videos on YouTube.

Now, I will admit, I did play through this game with a mod that did help to decrease the difficulty slightly. One of the two problems that I have with this game is the almost comical reaction time and accuracy of enemies no matter which level you're playing on. An argument could be made that it's almost immersion breaking that a gas station robber or meth head somehow has the accuracy of a fully trained soldier. On top of that, looking to my intro, how are you supposed to understand the story of a game and enjoy it when you're restarting most of the time due to a squad member or you dying? I wanted to see what the game had to offer, hence the introduction of the mod.

The other problem I have with this game is that of the multiplayer experience. If you have any less than 3 other people to play with, sorry, you're only getting that many for the mission. No AI to fill up the empty spots, no respawn in the form of backup, and I don't believe the levels scale depending on how many people are in your squad. Imagine playing on a level like Voll house with just two people and one of you dies early on. Have fun clearing the rest of that on your own. It just feels like a bad oversight that actively goes against not having enough people to play with.

Nevertheless, this game is fun, intense, interesting, and at times, scarier than I would've thought. There are many improvements that the developers need to implement, even some past what I've said. However, I think this is a good game that I didn't ever feel like I got ripped off when playing, which is surprising considering other releases coming out of EA.

TLDR: The game is good content wise but needs improvements to its suspect AI for a more realistic experience. The game also actively goes against those that don't have enough people for multiplayer by not making up for the lost teammate(s), which can become a hindrance in the bigger levels of this game. Overall, it's very enjoyable if you have enough people or if you're playing the single player mode.

The teams behind this game made a bad decision by forcing a launcher with questionable qualities and gave very shallow excuses as to why. Yes, I understand there are probably ways around the launcher, but it comes down to principle. I have not played this game since November of 2023, and it will continue to stay that way until steps are taken to remove the launcher.

Also, DLC is just too expensive for what they're offering, and that's still an issue seven months after I stopped playing this game.

All good things come to an end I guess.

This game was incredible to say the least. The VR aspect fits this game like a glove, and I would welcome future titles to have VR included in the ways you can play them. The puzzles are not overly hard but take enough time for you to enjoy the experience, the suspense of the game is turned up to an 11 due to it being VR, and the visuals as well as the story line were neat. Coming from someone who has played 1, 2, and 3, I would say that this game absolutely takes the cake. Even for a smaller play time and less replay value, this game is absolutely worth it in my opinion. Keep em' coming guys!

This game taught me that a bison can take 8 shots combined from two separate people and still walk away. Visuals are great too. Get DLC if you can.
