My mere 78 hours on steam does not reflect the eons I have sunk into this game over the years.

This game, with it's charming retro graphics, has been a staple of low resource gaming for myself. It hits the right level of customisability so I can play a game which is incredibly easy to make truck loads of cash and take over the map or play a much more challenging setting where I am competing with others to grow "my" city and I have to make decisions carefully.

If you enjoy games such as Cities in Motion or any other transport tycoon style games, you will love this game.

Overall: If you are a fan of old-school tycoon games, this is a must own!

Honestly, if you love tycoon style games, this game is damn near a prime example. Truly a spiritual successor to classic Rollercoaster Tycoon gameplay.

Visually this is a lovely cute style (you can see in screenshots, I don't feel the need to describe) and is very reminiscent of the isometric grid style tycoon games. I was somewhat annoyed by the restriction to isometric view, but with a simple workshop mod, this was fixed.

The workshop integration is great, with easily downloadable (and submitable in-game) blueprints. I haven't explored the extent of full mods yet but will surely continue.

Currently I haven't completed the campaign at around 30 hours, let alone additional scenarios, sandbox maps and all the workshop items to explore. So for me is good £/hr.

I have to say that I adore the fact they have implemented co-operative building in multiplayer. It seems like a feature that is missed out in many co-op games, but makes a game like this so much more enjoyable to be able to design with friends. Although a bit glitchy at points, I understand this is a very new feature and I'm sure the active development team will get it sorted.

I will update this further with more specifics.

Genuinely enjoy this game. Frustrating at points but the flexibility within the game is incredible for what is a very simple concept.

+ Massive variety of paths you can take to end game
+ Some silly comedy/references which are enjoyable
+ I quite like the framing device

AoE2 has a special place in my heart, as it will with many of us. The steep price tag had me worried for a remake/modernisation of a game that is 20 years old (what?!). But as you can see.... great games don't die.

- Original gameplay has been absolutely honored, and the additional expansions seem to fit in very nicely with the originals while also adding the ability for more strategies etc.
- Modernisation has done well with additional supported resolutions and zooms etc.
- I love this game. Always have, and this HD version, allows you to run it on modern computers.

With the announcement of AoE2 definitive edition, I'm not sure how I feel. HD is purely just a modernisation, whereas, if the AoE1 definitive edition beat was anything to go by, DE will be very much a re-skin to try and drag an old game kicking and screaming into 2019... Without actually expanding on the idea.

Honestly best co-op story based game you will play.

Such a great citybuild/transport game. Significant improvement on the first, has more depth of passenger requirements than alternatives such as OpenTTD but lacks any kind of cargo transport.

Absoultely love it, every passenger has a destination they want to get to, you can't just put a route down and people in the area will use it. You have to think about your network as a whole.

Definitely worth well over 1.49 ; A great, fun game to play with friends over voice chat!

Incredible mix of tower defence, third/first person shooter and RTS. Great game, although recent update has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me over!

Edit April 2020: I have been pointed to this review recently... I still recommend this game. Updates kept coming and changing max levels and tiers etc. Still an incredibly enjoyable game. And the updates didn't /really/ ♥♥♥♥ me over, just changed things slightly.

Such an amazing game, really hope that a sequel is made.
