Suddenly the game can't load it's own savefiles any more. They're written alright, but trying to load a savegame just results in an error. Launching the game again, load options are gone and I can start a new game.
It worked just fine yesterday and today I got to this after trying to play.

I tracked the files in the userdata dir and they get updated (i.e. written to) regularily. But they simply won't work for loading.

Game looks nice, plays nice and I feel the story would be good as well if I had enough time and resources to just keep it running for a playthrough (and not dying and need to reload from a save, mind you).

Waiting around for some patches and stuff so that this might be mitigated someday.

Edit:
It seems like there is a (tedious) workaround for us Linux users:
1 .Have Proton 9 beta.
2. Launch parameters: gamemoderun %command%
3. Start Game after boot. Get Crash
4. Remove launch parameters
5. Start game - do not load game.
6. Reboot PC
7. Add launch parameters again
8. Start game and play.

You see. I couldn't play the game. I really couldn't. The atmosphere and setting thrilled me to the extend that I (and I ♥♥♥♥ you not) sat in a closet for 10 Minutes straight out of pure fear, cold sweat running down my face and back. I was jumping at every sound the ship made, was is a beep or a cracking sound. The second time I encountered the alien in the medical bay, I closed the game and never opened it since. Would recommend for people with heart attack problems and phobias.
