I started this game for the cute waifus but I stuck around because of the feels.

As far as monetization goes, spending $5 a month for the monthly pass has been enough for me to pull every unit released so far and I don't feel like I'm behind the turbo-whales in the game because after all you can always borrow their units.

Dailies take no more than a combined 2-10 minutes a day to do during content lulls so it's really easy to stay on top of things while you grind out pulls for the next content update that typically releases every 4 weeks.

If you're a fan of Metal Gear Solid, XCOM combat and have a tolerance for Visual Novel styled storytelling, you owe it to yourself to give this game a shot.

This game suffers from shockingly bad optimization - every other review on this page accurately reflects the current state of the game. For reference I have a 12th gen i9 CPU, a 3080 RTX GPU and 32 gigs of RAM and my FPS regularly fluctuates between 15 FPS to 50 FPS on low-medium settings. Texture pop-ins are common as are flat or are missing textures when the game decides to have a hiccup. I've had a couple crash to desktops in the time I've played the game so far and from what I understand I got it easy compared to other users.

It's a shame because this is actually a fun game when things go well and I have no issues with revising this review when performance issues are finally addressed beyond Capcom saying "just update your drivers lol"

If you're on the fence, I'd wait 3 or so months. There's bound to be some performance updates by the time Summer rolls around and it's very likely you might get to pay for this game on discount due to Summer sales going out on top of having a couple content updates added to the game which will flesh out the anemic Monster roster that this game has on launch.

God I wanted to love this game because what it does is it offers something that feels unique in the market. I love the Mech element in an Extraction shooter. I love the Magus customization. I love that this game has long-term progression goals to repair and build up your base for tangible benefits such as crafting slots, daily income sources, better vendor prices, and more. But man, I just wish that any other developer was in charge of this game because what we have in this game feels like a dozen good ideas held back by the devs half-assing it. It feels like it's close to being a good game but then something hits you up the head and reminds you how awful the game can be.

  • $40 price point, $10-$30 battlepass, $10-$30 skins
  • Emphasis on Magus customization, 90% of cosmetics are through the cash shop
  • They are literally offering pay2win gear in the battlepass and the Deluxe/Ultimate editions that you can lose in PVP
  • The requests are all fetch quests and the rewards for doing them often come at a loss for the requirements to do so ; Example turn in 60 repair kits for 1000 currency
  • The PVP/PK faction gets mechs and weapons that are better for PVP/PK than the PVE/Association faction so the former always has a tremendous advantage over the latter whenever the two meet up
  • Probably 7(?) enemy types in the game? Each with 3 color variants to denote increased health/damage upgrades.
  • Ridiculously anemic weapon options and Magus abilities
  • Incredibly limited mech customization limited to body type, arms type and legs type
  • Story is barely there. After 12 hours I've only done two story quests and unlocked 5(?) of the codex entries for the story/setting

Despite it all, there's something there. Most extraction shooters don't have much of a PVE element to it or a long-term progression hook to keep you coming back other than unlocking ways to kill people. Synduality has the base feature that you can develop and the Magus where a competent dev would have allowed for more customization and cosmetics as a hook to keep playing which brings me to the following:

  • A better dev would have better graphics than PS3/PS4 and have optimized it so that the wild FPS drops would be less frequent. Seriously, I get better framerates on Cyberpunk 2077 than this game for some reason.
  • A better dev would have more customization on the mechs ; why can't we paint them? Add decals?
  • A better dev would have more ranged and melee weapons. What about the shoulder-mounted weapons shown in the Anime that inspired the game?
  • A better dev would have spent more time on the story.
  • A better dev would have made more enemies to fight and made the Enders more fearsome and on the level as the Parasitic Enders and Bounty targets.

Mecha fans are starving for content out here. I hope that some enterprising dev team will look back on Synduality in the future for inspiration and give us the game that this game ought to have been.

Cute game for Ace Attorney fans. It's significantly shorter than any case in the AA series and easier than any case therein but fans of the genre will still enjoy the 45 minutes to an hour they'll have with the game.

I'm looking forward to the next episode!

If I could describe SF5 right now in one word that word would be rushed. As it stands this game is very much incomplete with basic fighting game features with promises to fix things next month in a content patch. What we have at launch is a story mode which is embarassingly easy and feels tacked on in the last minute if you see the content of the story and the laughable quality of the artwork. Seeing as how we're keen on giving Capcom a free pass on the quality of their single player story mode that leaves the online multiplayer and local multiplayer. I don't have any real experience with local multiplayer yet but in regards to the online mode the netcode is worse than USF4's which is to be expected considering it is a cross platform game but that alone doesn't excuse Capcom considering they've had a beta for six months. While It's commendable that the dev team has focused a lot of attention to balancing the game it's absolutely deplorable how they treated the rest of the game.

With all that said, unless you're playing local vs. mode or if you have a group of friends that will play with you you should consider waiting until March when the patch arrives with much needed online matchmaking features, more single player content, and a plethora of bug fixes which should have been fixed during the beta.

The foundation for a good game is there but I can't in good conscience recommend SF5 to a new player unless they already have people diving in with them until all these issues are addressed. When that day happens I will be happy to change this review but until then, it's just a shoddy rush job.

Alpha Protocol is the gaming equivalent of a homely girl with a heart of gold. She may not look that great in comparison to some of her sisters, nor will she entice many people with her odd quirks; however, once you get to know her she will blow you away with her razor sharp wit and give you some truly memorable conversations. Her incredible depth will make you learn more and more things about her even after "playing through" her three times - leaving you yearning for more. She's in good company with Deus Ex and Vampire: The Masquerade in the sense that these gals have some serious quirks but are ultimately the dream girl at the end of film.

She may not be for everyone at face value but if you give her the chance she deserves you surely won't be disappointed.

Fantastic game if you're willing to put some effort into it to get past the initial skill/knowledge curve that serves as a filter for those that would normally play this game like any modern shooter: lone wolf players, quickscoping teenagers and campers. Your enjoyment of the game is directly proportional to how often you and your team will utilize microphones to relay info on enemy movement and positions. If you can play with a friend the experience is even greater because there is little out there that can compete with holding a position from an advancing mob of Skulks while low on ammunition just hoping to survive long enough for reinforcements to come by to make the final push against an enemy hive.

Plays like a cross between Bioshock and any Elder Scrolls' Thieves Guild or Assasins Guild Questline, which isn't a bad thing but not worth the full price. Buy it on sale otherwise and be sure to put it on the hardest difficulty right from the start because this is one of the easiest games you'll ever play. More like Dis-not-hard huehuehue
