Wow is this game overrated or what?

I didn't enjoy it, I can't even aim down the sight, cause there is no option to... Enemeis are bullet sponges. Sliding like Sonic to throw armored enemies on their back is just a poor design decision. Gameplay is too arcade-y for me. Level design is also pretty bad.

I thought it would be so much better.

It is a bad horror game, the graphics looks ugly and outdared. And so do the physics. The voice acting is bad.
The game also lacks atmosphere and it needs antialiasing badly. I didin't like the level design much... also the performance could be better. I really have no idea where all these good reviews came from...

Also the gamne features boring gameplay, such as

1. get key
2. find door
3. unlock door manually
4. find an item, solve some trivial puzzle.
5. walk crouched so the entity doesn't hear you *
6. go into your room, close the door, save the game.

* If the entity does hear or see you, you need to run under the nearest couch or locker and there aren't many.

7, repeat everything (5 times) until you find all the items.

Early Access Review
The game is kinda pretty, I also liked the cinematics.
Not really comparable to Starcraft II, however I really wanted to try out and play the campaign...

!! BUT !!

You only have 3 level to play for free, then it wants 10€ to buy chapter 1.

Despite this the gameplay is clunky and janky. It's somehow too fast. I don't like the pacing. The units are often clumsy, they will just run towards death, no question asked. They don't obey even if you order them to hold position. There is no save option but an autosave happens every start of level basically.

If I need to pick up resources like Luminite shards, and my inventory is full, I first need to drop an item from the inventory to pick up the Luminite shards that take zero space in the inventory, only to pick up my dropped item back up again.

I don't like how the game controls, how units walk, the bot paths are often broken, and you'll end up with your units running in circles... So the gameplay is not very good. and the game is not very well optimized either. Loading times are atrocious.

In conclusion, the game should be better. After all it was made by some of the fired Blizzard staff that made also Starcraft II. And I'm sorry, but the pay to play model they use is pretty infuriating.

As of now is still in early access, but so far I really can't recommend the game. However we will see in the future if the game gets any better.

Early Access Review
The game is fantastic, set in the year 1980, which I love, it's my year of birth... and the 80s in general were a really nice time to live in, unlike today. But that's beside the point :) The game is like a mix between Deadlight and This War Of Mine, and both are cool games. Still feels a bit limited, especially in terms of what you can set to do during one day or one night in the game.

Needs better optimization with graphics, I'm also experiencing a graphical glitch that makes certain shadows look like glitter. I wrote in the discussion about it. Other than that it's the 2.5D zombie side-scrolling game we've been waiting for!
There is always room for improvement, but it's early access, so I'm very hopefull for the game's future.

Absolutely recommended!

Over all a decent horror walking simulator, it has some minor puzzles, and some jumpscares. One got me really really good. The rest of them, meh ok. The game is also really short. I think we need more ancient egyptian horror games.

As much as I want to love this game, someone has to say it... This game is very frustrating. I bought it on day 1. It was halloween. I thought it was just up my alley, Mysterios atmosphere, supernatural events, investigation, 3rd person perspective... Perfect for me, I thought. ...

I played the first 3 chapters, and visually the game looks very nice, but the gameplay and mandatory permadeath the character stats, the way too many frustrating puzzles... and how not to mention the absolutley stupid recurring and broken quick time events where you either survive or die, where you have to press space in the exact moments and with a rhytm that the game wants you to...

Yeah it was definitely designed by a sadistic dev that loves to frustrate the players. Also reflected in his few troll interactions where, when you interact with something and your character instantly dies. It's just stupid.

The subsequent two chapters, that came much later I didn't even touch, because when I start the game and get into the menu, remembering my dead characters with the best stats and watching at the awful ones that remained I get mild PTSD flashbacks from the frustration I went through in the first 3 chapters and I just close the game. This happened to me a few times already.

This game is not for players who get frustrated easily... It had to be said.

It's so infurating how this game interface works. But also the counter-intuitive in its courses of actions and all that... way too complicated, where it all could have been much more intuitive..., like for example I needed to heal 2 of my squad memebers with the third one before he could lift his butt up and just close the fence door. Also way too many tutorials without any save option in between. I just said let's check this one game before I go to sleep.
It said It's recommended to play the tutorial, and I said ok. Let's see how this game works... BIG MISTAKE

It started as a simple tutorial enough but then I went to the NEXT TUTORIAL and then NEXT TUTORIAL and NEXT TUTORIAL and NEXT TUTORIAL and NEXT TUTORIAL and NEXT TUTORIAL and again NEXT TUTORIAL then NEXT TUTORIAL also then NEXT TUTORIAL and NEXT TUTORIAL and NEXT TUTORIAL and again NEXT TUTORIAL and then NEXT TUTORIAL and so on without any save option in between. All my playtime and couldn't even finish the tutorial section... It is infuriating!!

And here went my sleep down the drain, and then I just quit the game. If I will want to learn the game next time I will have to replay all the tutorials I already did completeif I will want to continue.

What were the devs thinking???!?

it's just a neverending tutorial.

The graphics look decent. But the menus are of an especially horrendous design!
Before the update the game was completely unplayable for me cause it was so unoptimized, and I know I was not the only one, no matter what setting I used I couldn't play it smoothly. After the update, It became playable for the most part, while some minor parts still gave me massive fps drops.

The game has an solid horror atmosphere, BUT the ultra bright and absolutely white flashlight will often ruin your experience like compeltely, as you can't even see the items in the drawers if you come near them with the flashlight turned on... Which you will many times, since you wander in this house without electricity at night and it's impossible to wander without having the flashlight on. Almost all the furniture is white and many walls too, and when you shine your flashlight on the white items they are literally blinding, even the brown furniture is blinding me... I will include screenshots at the bottom so you can see what I'm even talking about. But really, It's a very annoying design choice. Hard on your eyes and completely unnecessary.

I'm also experiencing this bug that makes my mouse cursor red all the time, when in reality it should be grey or desaturated unless you come upon an interactive object and then it would turn red. But in the creepy house the cursor is constantly red and never becomes grey, making me question what objects are even interactive, so I click on everything including every single white cupboard and white drawer. Again, it's a blinding nightmare.

Another bug is whenever I start the game I already have on me the cameroid, yet the game say I need to pick it up and the objective stays incomplete in the bottom left corner. If I press 7 I can activate the cameroid, so I clearly have it on me. It obviously remembered that I picked it up once.

Edit: I finished chapter 1, and that's all to it for now. Chapter 2 coming soon, or so it says. I didn't have to use the cameroid at all. I especially didn't like the cave part... it was something completely different from the house level, changed the gameplay style, I don't see the point of this weird design choice. It just all feel so random.

In conclusion, the game clearly got some good effort put in, there are some sweet details, like the laptop at the start, that was very well done and all functional. But for me at least this is the type game to play through just once... however since it's free you can try and see for yourself... There is some potential there. Maybe you will enjoy it more than I did.

PS: The derveloper is quite responsive and it seems like he'd love to improve his game, so for me it was a hard choice to mark this title as not recommend. But I wanna stay objective, since I ultimately didn't enjoy the game.

Oh and here are, as I promised, the blinding screenshots:

I just started the game and immediately regretted it. Why? For some reason the dev thought it would be a great idea to put such a strong accent in this game, so strong, that it sounds extremely irritating to me.

Listening to this, while trying to read the subtitles is atrocious. From the trailer alone that I saw quite some time ago, I did not understand how awful it sounds. They should have a warning about this.

I would love to be able to change the language. I would love to play it in Italian for example. Maybe the only other solution is to shut up all the dialogue or to make it barely audible.

For now I will put a negative review exclusively for the accent choosen. I honestly can't listen to this, it's painful.

When I finish the game I'll come back and write a more decent review, but for now I need to put a negative one to redeem my ears that were so savagely assaulted.

One day browsing games on steam I was like, "oh look a new f2p racing game, looks cool I might try it out later". Oh god, I had no idea what I was getting myself into...

Game is free to play but it can be really frustrating if you don't spend real money in it.
It's grindy beyond any level of immagination, it's ... deeply mind-numbing grindy.
To play this game you need a lot of time. To enjoy this game you need to spend a lot of money.

The devs seem to be unaware that time = money or at least not appreciate the time you dedicate to this game, making you race 1000x the same track to grind blueprints, to star up cars, that you then have to pay in game currency to upgrade. The better cars usually are locked behind a key, and that key is usually very hard to obtain. Playing this game, each race it will take 1 fuel from you and one ticket. Nothing is free.

What makes it truly addictive tho is the gambling, the club community and the multiplayer. Multiplayer is not particuary enjoyable most of the time either, but this game is addictive indeed.

I'm pretty sure that evil geniouses of marketing had brainstormed the economical model of this game. At it's core the game is nice, and cool, but the devs took this core and handicapped it to high haven, just in order for you to pay for the handicaps. Turns out you have to pay for everything and even more. If you buy something in order to progress, you will probably have to buy it twice or more, cause the drops when you gamble with cardpacks are usually pretty bad.
The game is not even free to play basically, is more like pay to play. And we as a collective gaming community should vehemently oppose this from becoming a practice for devs that like to mercilessly exploit its playerbase. I think people of authority should look into this company, into this "free 2play" model, because it's all indeed walking on thin ice here, I mean this game is not far from being a huge scam.

In conclusion I have never even heard before that a f2p game can be so expensive and full of dirty tricks, oh yeah that kinda reminds me of Game of Thrones - Winter is coming. What a plague that was, I was addicted wasted a lot of money as well, and one day just deleted it an never looked back. These people are basically criminals in my eyes.

But with asphalt it's harder... It's worse than drugs, and more expensive as well, avoid at all costs.
