TLDR: If you're on the fence about buying it, I'd recommend buying it even at full price just due to how well-made the entire game is, not just talking about some things, literally EVERYTHING about this game is well done. Expect ~15 hours of gameplay if to fully complete the story line, but to earn all the achievements expect 25+ hours of gameplay I'd say.


The story line is great with lots of little foretelling the future that you won't realize until you complete and re-play the game; the atmosphere around the whole game is great with each portion of the map giving off a different feeling when you enter within its area; the whole system of upgrading your boat with better equipment as you progress through the story line is well-made and easy to understand and follow.

The only gripe I have with the game is how short it is; this is one of the only games where I truly do hope they release more content for the game as it's so wonderfully made that it honestly deserves more praise for what it is.

I finished the game in ~11 hours, but I didn't fully do all the side quests in the game, so you could probably expect ~15 hours of playtime if you fully play all the side quests etc. This estimate also doesn't include all of the possible achievements you can earn from various tasks like catching all species of fish, or completing all side quests, etc. With my ~11 hour estimate I only achieved about half of the possible achievements.

I remember playing the original edition of this game with my dad years and years ago, when it was solely a point and click puzzle game. It's honestly crazy to think that they've remastered this game like 4 times now; it just goes to show how much of a masterpiece the original truly was. The graphics in this remaster are amazing as it's done in Unreal Engine, although I sometimes yearn for those original, lower-quality but more mysterious graphics of the original.

My recommendation: If you've never played the game before, I'd highly recommend this version over any other edition Cyan has ever put out as it's been remastered, bugs have been (mostly) fixed, the graphics look absolutely fantastic, it's been optimized, you have a photo mode for storing clues and notes now, and this even supports VR, something I'll have to eventually try.
