Early Access Review
I’ve been testing Last Oasis for a few months, participating in the closed alpha tests and helping the devs create this game through their reporting functions. I should preface this review with the fact that I’m a huge PvP nerd. I play games solely to take people’s loot and sacrifice their soul to Myrkul, the Lord of Bones.

Last Oasis is a survival-sandbox where you roam a vast desert in search of the necessities to survive. The combat system is a skill-based melee pvp system with directional attacks, directional blocks, and stumbles; with a moderate skill ceiling -- LO is the perfect place for a small group of friends to run rampant and get their PvP fix.

The game functions similarly to Rust, with a many major differences, but is a lot more solo friendly in design and provides a safe logout functionality so you don’t worry about offline raiding.

The Tech is extremely easy to unlock, making the game feel like progression is near non-existent, which means it’s really easy to catch up to other players, which is very good for a persistent world. During the first couple days I was able to max out my entire tech tree up to the tablet tier tech which was not yet available. I'm expecting a wipe and have no issues with doing that again, it was about an 8 hour investment.

The PvP is quick, skill-based and exciting, allowing for many interesting circumstances to arise and many tricky fighting methodologies. Min-maxing in LO will always be an evolving thing.

If I don’t take into consideration the server issues and hiccups on launch week, I would rate this game 5/5.

Yeah.... No.

Here's what the first launch of the game is like.

Cinematic looks cool.
Menu opens.
Mouse doesn't work.
okay.
random keys navigate the menu.
uh...huh...
get to the keybinds menu and...
it's 3 pages of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, with over 70 actions to remap.
meanwhile you still have tonavigate and remap these keys using seemingly random keys.
Delete a key with 'i', go back with 'q', confirm with 'e'

The minimum system requirements recommend a useless sound card, but not a controller.
What a travesty. The game looks decent, it's just another ♥♥♥♥ port.

Get this on your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ consoles, not on PC, these devs couldn't map a mouse and keyboard if their lives depended on it.

Bought it at full price and remapped the keys.

Played it from beginning to end on the hardest difficulty without using 'heavy strike' (kick?)
Combat is extremely easy, but entertaining. The story is amazing, the atmosphere is extatic, the graphics are out of this world.

I'll be playing through this again and am excited for the sequel.

That last boss was almost a full hour of troll, was pleasantly angry at this all day today. Spoilers alert: I streamed all 8 hours and 30 minutes of my gameplay which can be found on twitch here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/311881748

Go ahead and get a sneak peak if you need that to buy it, but I really suggest just buying and playing through the game with no heads up. It's an amazing story.

It was a very pleasant run, unfinished game, however it was very fun and the devs are very active on the steam forums and with pushing updates. Well worth the few bucks it costed..

Early Access Review
Flawless launch? No
Obvious Beta crashes/server issues? Certainly
Is it enjoyable? Overwhelmingly

Only aggrivating thing is the original server my guild was planning on playing in has character creation locked currently, only 95% of us got in. The rest are kinda just circle jerking until they can create characters.

but other than that this game is extremely enjoyable. Can't wait for end game pvp.

EDIT: Hit endgame pvp, omygod i love killing people

Early Access Review
Before I start this review I would like to state that I will be updating it as the development process moves along, and I want to stress that this is an Early Access game, which heaily plays into my review. I will be highlighting points about gameplay mechanics, development issues, and comparisons to other games in the genre. I will be starting with a blurb aout what this game is, then go into detail on my thoughts and reflections and tell you why I choose to recommend this game or not.

Hunt: Showdown is similar in a few aspects to battle royal games, however it doesn't focus on large scale combat as much as pubg or fortnite do. Hunt is in Early Access, at the very beginning of it's early access we are currently stress testing all the games features, the servers, the UI, and mechanics. Stress testing entails a lot of hitches and problems with playing the game, if you are not accustomed to beta/alpha or stress testing, this title is not for you, yet.

The graphics are nice, with a seemingly western horror theme, and all the weapons are old school wild west style weapons. The shooting mechanics are not fast paced, like today's shooters, but more of a realistic take on old school rifles, shotguns, and pistols. Even though the weapons and aiming mechanics are realistic and at a slower pace than the shooters we are used to, combat is extremly fast paced because the damage output of the weapons in comparison to the health pools of players are realistic.

The game also provides PvE content besides the PvP contnt, however there's no way to queue into solely PvE matches. The monsters you will be fighting as you make your way through the map are very unforgiving to your mistakes, and can easily kill you if left unchecked. Even though the matches are limited to 5 duos or any combination of 10 solo/duo players, the matches have a play time of up to I believe 1 hour, however you can exit the amtch early by making your way to an extraction point. This allows players who are new and not used to PvP to make their way through the game minimizing the risk of death, and is a nice feature for less experienced gamers.

Hunt has two seperate leveling models, an account 'rank' and a hunter 'level.' each map can increase both, where your account rank unlocks new weapons, tools, and consumables, the hunter level allows him to heal, gain perks, and at max level the exp gained on said hunter will dump into your rank exp instead of hunter exp. This is a nice feature in my opinion as getting a hunter to max level is rather difficult as your hunter is dead on death.

I find the gameplay extremely enjoyable, however some of the weapons need some balancing in my opinion. the starter rifle is a great rifle that can compair in combat to the more expensive unlcokable rifles, however the starter shotgun is extremely underwhelming in comparison to the rest of the shotguns. Single barrel, long reload time, minimal damage. where as the double barrel can one shot players, causes bleeding, has two rounds in the chamber, and if I'm not mistaken even reloads faster than the single barrel. The pistols are all underwhelming in my opinion, with the exception of the silenced pistol (in some situations) and the pistol with a rifle stock, which becomes next to useless as soon as you unlock the quartermaster perk. These are my perspectives and are open to debate, I'm sure a lot of players disagree about pistol usefulness.

The game is riddled with bugs as to be expected of any early access game. However the developers have enabled error code readouts to report to them for debugging and have been very active and dilligent abut addressing the issues. The devvelopers are extremely active 24/7 through their official discord and have been working very hard with the community to address server malfunctions and bugs like error 0x107d1 which caused players to not be able to queue together after about 8-10 horus of server uptime. They bandaid fixed it by restarting the servers every time this popped up for 2-3 days, until they implemented a hotfix for it, and were actively addressing the issue with the community. Error 0x30003 Has been a huge problem as well, being an error related to your connection to the server, and 3 days into early access they addressed this issue, and implemented a fix that removed it from happening in 90% of the scenarios that it happened, however they are actively trying to address another issue causeing it. A new issue just popped up that is related to desync and after teleporting around for a minute it will kick you through the anticheat system, I'm certai this issue will be fixed shortly.

Basically what I'm saying is that this early access game, has a lot of problems. It's expected, however they are addressing the issues, implementing fixes, and keeping the community in tow through the entire process.

Bar some balancing conerns with the weapons I find that the game is extremely intense, and exciting and I would definately recommend it to gamers who don't mind all the bugs that come along with game testing.
