Stop reading this and start playing this game. Unless you want my opinion on the game then keep reading. A hat in time is a game I had on my wishlist for a long time, and when I finally got it, it didn’t disappoint. The moment you start playing you feel a connection with the character. The controls are rock solid, including double jumps, dashes, and my favorite part, being able to stop a dash at any point. The main hub for the game is the spaceship, from where you can enter the different chapters. The worlds all have a diverse scenery and no chapter feels alike. The main objective of the game is to collect all the time pieces to get your broken spaceship up and running again. The game can be completed in less than ten hours, however the different challenges this game throws at you, mainly the deathwish, will keep you playing for hours. After completing this, you can play levels created by the community, which seem endless. The music is great, and the characters are mostly very memorable. My favorite chapter is the battle of the birds, where you are a movie star and must impress the crowd. The DLC is worth it, especially the Nyakuza Metro DLC, although the Seal the Deal DLC wasn’t bad either. If I had to complain about something, it would be that the camera is sometimes located in a weird spot, which makes a hard jump near impossible. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this game more, so again if you haven’t played it, stop reading and start playing!

Celeste was my game of the year for 2018. It gave me an experience I never really had with a video game before. Along with the excellent controls and the fantastic scene the game puts you in, it also has a gripping story in which you can feel very invested. The start of the game reminded me a bit of the original super mario bros, where everything you need to know about the controls can be understood in less than 30 seconds without displaying any text to help you. The movement of the protagonist Madeline is so smooth and at its place, it gives you an immersive feeling. The different chapters all have interesting settings, and with most you will learn a new move which will be required to master in order for you to beat the levels. All characters are memorable and they stay relevant throughout the game. This game ticks every box for stuff I find important in a video game, and even a few which I didn't know I had. Celeste really is something special, and I would recommend anyone who loves a good platformer combined with a great plot to play this game.
