Very, VERY short but enjoyable game. It's like a diet coke Fallout where you can shut your brain off and mess around. I think this game has my least favorite Far Cry antagonists, they're unabashedly awful and aren't interesting characters, unlike Vaas, Joeseph, etc. I enjoyed the story and the game was plenty fun but I was surprised that I was as far in as I was. One session I checked the progression and suddenly I was at 19/22 story missions. Wild stuff.

Lastly, this game has a dog companion. The dog was the only companion I got. Why would I need any others?

okokok so here's the situation: this is a top five all-time game for me (please stick with me i promise this isn't coming from nowhere)

luck be a landlord is a "slot machine roguelike" but just what the hell does that even mean? you start with a few starting symbols and accrue more of them after every spin. there isn't the traditional lines, bet levels, or any other trappings of real slot machines, rather it focuses more on adjacency and symbol "type." synergies exist for different minerals/gems (pearls, shiny rocks, emeralds), food (you know what food is), animals (again you know these), and even subthemes within those, like fruit or farm animals. there's a sick and twisted balance you have to play, particularly at higher difficulties, between "these symbols just plain give me more money" and "these symbols will be the theme I go with."

like many roguelikes, this game requires you to be really flexible, even when your body is as inflexible as a 70 y/o man who watches tv on the couch all day. you have to both think a dozen spins ahead and the three spins until your next rent payment. even with my (paltry compared to how much I feel like I've played this game) hours in this game, i still feel like i'm learning more and more about it every time i pick it up.

the beauty of this game is how incredibly simple but also comically complex the gameplay is. if you really really want to break it down, your interaction with the game is "i am making decisions about adding/taking away from my deck" or "i am pressing spin." in that sense, the way you interact with the game in that direct way is fairly indirect, the luck of the draw is the driver of the action. but the deckbuilding possibilities are deep enough that your route to ridiculous numbers are so esoteric.

as an example, the way "effects" stack on top of each other is incredible. many symbols "multiply" the effects of adjacent symbols of a certain theme. there are also way to turn some symbols into "wildcards" which copy the highest value of the adjacent symbol. those "copied values" are the final values after any multipliers, additions, etc. that then, in turn, get added to, multiplied, etc. this kind of thing can cascade and turn a few adjacent wildcards into ludicrous value.

all of this is to say that the gameplay here is so shockingly deep considering the direct interaction of the player is fairly limited. so much is left to chance, but the true strategy is to tilt the odds of that chance in your favor.

to put a bow on it, i really love this game. it speaks to me on the primal "things are moving and numbers happen" level, but also gets my brain thinking when there's a million routes to victory and i'm left to determine where i'm to go from there. for $10 this is not a complicated decision. if you enjoy deckbuildery type roguelike games this is 100% worth your time.

this is probably one of the best games ever made. deceptively simple, easy to grasp, difficult to master. the game really is an interesting tale of survival

I love OOTP / Perfect Team and will continue to play it every day but this is easily the worst-performing version of the game I've played (since OOTP19). It feels unresponsive, laggy, and clunky. Everything works, but it doesn't run well at all.

An Airport for Aliens Currently Run by Dogs is a delightful game I've been looking forward to for a while. So far, it is amazing.

I've pet so many dogs.

I really only like Perfect Team. The addition of perfect draft is a lot of fun and adds a surprising amount to the game.

In progress review...

Do you like Persona 5? Do you like Musou games? Give this a shot! I'm enjoying the game thus far. All the fun writing from Persona 5 is back with amped up fan service and all the excellent full group dynamics that Persona 5 needed more of, along with a couple new, intriguing characters.

The port is good. No performance problems, no complaints outside of a 60FPS cap. That is a bummer but not world-ending. That being said, the KB+M control scheme is madness. I have no idea how you use it. I recommend using a controller.

I've finished the first jail (think palace) in about six and a half hours.

In summary, Haru best girl.
