If you can get it on sale like I did, I think it's worth the money (24€ in my case). It did not live up to people's expectations and all the hype, but it's also not as bad as people say. Ship combat is decent fun, and it's enjoyable to grind world events and elite captains with some friends. The game should be getting another year of content updates, and I don't feel like the microtransactions are that bad (it's just some cosmetics). But as a live-service game I don't think it really works. You kinda play and grind until you have everything and then you're done until they add new content. PvP doesn't really exist so the replayability is not there. Overall I give it a solid 7/10. I never played Black Flag so maybe I wasn't as disappointed as other people.

Edit: Linux and Mac support ending in March like I predicted.

Support for the Linux version will most likely be dropped. Epic has 0 reason to support a port they won't sell on their own store. Multiplayer will be unplayable on Linux.

I wrote a review over a year ago and deleted it because of the backlash from the community. Decided to write it again to inform people about a few things.

The game has two big problems:

1. Lack of new players

Most of the servers are empty. The game is dead.

2. The attitude towards new players

You guys NEED new players to keep the game alive. And you just keep pushing them away. You're killing your own community.

I played the game for a few hours and had fun. Until I got into an argument with some "old veteran" who liked to votekick noobs from the server to make room for his friends to join. I got votekicked and couldn't play on that server anymore. There were not many servers to play on. Maybe 2 or 3. I didn't touch the game since.

There are some people who are nice to new players but if the majority of the community are self-centered elitists, the game is going to die. It already has died.
