Captain's Log

Day 1:
Damn, I’m broke. But at least I have a ship now. It’s in terrible condition, but it has some space and four thrusters. It'll have to do for now.
Barely have enough cash to cover the docking fees. Definitely not enough for a license.
I scavenged some shredded piece of garbage ship and found a license, valid for a couple of hours. Not surprised someone left it here. There’s barely anything worth taking.

Day 2:
If I scavenge far enough from K-Leg without a transponder, the police can’t find me, right?
Found my first ship—a huge freighter with a banged-up reactor and 36 specialty cargo pods. Lucky!
Quickly grabbed the reactor parts and I’m out. I’ll be back for those pods.
Met a nice gal, chatted her up, and she took my reactor parts for a solid payout. You’ll be seeing me around more often.

Day 4:
Expanded the back of the ship and started piecing together reactor parts so I can finally gain some independence from K-Leg. Simple batteries are no longer enough.
Where the hell do I find a Cryo tank? I don’t want to turn my ship into a tiny star without it.

Day 6:
Whoa, three Hydra intakes in one derelict? Am I lucky or what? I’d love to fly that ship model in the future, but for now, back to my ship they go. You better believe I’m not selling those.

Day 7:
Finally found a new Cryo tank in stock at K-Leg. Fastest purchase of my life. After looking at it for so long, I can finally start my reactor.
Now, starting this monster—how hard can it be? Well, you better believe me, it wasn’t easy.
Turn this knob, flip that switch, wait for this thing, press a couple of other buttons, and draw the rest of the damn owl (whatever that means; never seen the thing). Anyway, success—I didn’t explode!

Day 8:
With today’s haul, I should be able to afford one of the cheapest derelicts in the store, pimp it up, sell it back, and I’ll be rich in no time.
But damn, 23k for a transponder? What, am I made of gold? And I almost forgot about it. Almost. Don’t need the police on my tail for owning a ship without a transponder. Thanks, but no thanks.
Also, I need to hire someone. I almost died from sleep deprivation. Surely, someone will want to work for me and let me get some rest, right?
Found a girl—young shipbreaker, unskilled, full of dreams. Eh, it could be worse. I’m definitely not hiring some criminal or, god forbid, a manager.
But she wants how much for death insurance, paid in full upfront? Are you kidding me? I just bought a derelict and a transponder; I’m not paying that much.
It took a lot of convincing and a few assurances, but she finally agreed. You know, “It’s an incredible chance to gain valuable experience” and “The best way to get off this rock.” Damn, I sound like a corpo goon.

Day 9:
That derelict I bought? It’s way smaller than I anticipated. Barely enough space for a nav console and basic life support.
Battery and tanks? Outside. But it flies and has a proper airlock now. I guess that counts, right?
Sold it—and I doubled my investment. Not bad.

Day 15:
Hired another shipbreaker. They seem to be into the girl I hired before. Well, I don’t mind as long as they do their job.
She, on the other hand, curses whenever she sees me. Eh, not surprised, given her work schedule. But I’m working the same one, so stop complaining and get back to work.
Found another huge cargo ship and stripped it clean. And I mean clean. There was barely anything left when we were done with it. My ship, on the other hand, has grown significantly.

Day 16:
Got the tracking warning for the first time ever. What? Why? Checked the messages, and it seems the police will be visiting soon.
I did nothing wrong. I know nothing.
Okay, maybe I’ve been overworking my employees a bit (and myself too!). And maybe I’ve stripped a couple of ships without a valid license. And... they definitely don’t know about any of it. Probably.
They arrived. Also, I know my ship is kinda slow now, but that speed was something else. No way I’d ever be able to outrun the cops, not in that giant.
Jammed into the docking port without slowing down much, and now we’re drifting through space. And I can’t do much about it. Not without tearing off my own docking port with the acceleration.
What’s worse, that bastard is just sitting there, watching TV, instead of bothering to explain why they’re here. But that gives me time to think, and I might have a stupid idea.
So, I pass them by, absorbed in the latest drama show, I guess, slip into the engineering room, and now I know why they showed up so fast—over ten thrusters and a Hydra. They won’t need those as much as I do, I’m sure.
Used my 31337 skills to quickly hack and lock the door (and of course, grabbed whatever data I could find on the nav console) and started uninstalling. No witnesses, no crime. Asked one of the crew to keep them occupied, just in case.
Out of the goodness of my heart, I left them with two thrusters and a single Kang intake I had lying around.
Finally went back to check in. They’re still at the TV. Is that drama really that good? Might have to see it sometime.
Anyway, they just wanted to inspect the ship, make sure there was a work safety poster somewhere (which there totally was—definitely not swiped from your cargo), and then they left. Heh.

Day 18:
Bought another derelict for cheap—bigger this time.
Added a reactor, batteries, more thrusters, and all the missing doors and equipment. Remodeled the interior. Fixed every piece of floor and wall.
It seemed to be an abandoned hauler, so I added a towing brace I picked up at the kiosk at K-Leg. It was meant for my main ship, but eh, I’ll find another one at some point.
Parked it at the station, topped up all the tanks. It's a beauty now. Kinda weird overall design if you ask me, but it was like that from the start, and ain't nobody got time to improve that too. Played around with switches on the nav console, and this thing can accelerate to over 14G?
Suddenly, I got a vision. Triggered, I guess, by the cannonball challenge I heard about. Speeding up to Venus orbit in minimal time, my vision darkening, bones cracking from the incredible force, pure adrenaline... Yeah, maybe in the next incarnation, I’d die with this feeble body.
Sold the ship for over 2M. I'm a millionaire now. Wow. Didn't expect that.
That gives me so much more freedom. Maybe I can try flying to Venus? Much slower, though.

TL;DR: The game looks really good, but the gameplay falls short. It’s a reluctant recommendation.

Each room with a box is self-contained and thematically unique. After solving a few simple and somewhat repetitive puzzles using items found in and around the box, you'll uncover the final piece, which can then be used to solve the puzzle in the main hub room.

When compared to The Room, which it seems heavily inspired by, Boxes: Lost Fragments lacks consistency in its themes and a deeper story. While I enjoyed the 4 hours I spent playing it, the overall experience is rather forgettable.

There is plenty of things to unlock, the ammount of viable builds is incredible and generally it looks and plays great.

I really liked the narrative presented in the game. Overall, the story was well written and interesting.
Each place and creature you encounter is being described by the xenobiologist you are transporting around.
That, coupled with the minimal interface of the game, allowed for imagination to overtake and let me really immerse myself in the alien world.

Fresh and innovative take on factory / automation genre.
I especially liked the islands and modular designs that they bring.

The good:
The game looks gorgeous.
Levels are designed beautifully.
Puzzles are enjoyable.

The bad:
Controls on the Steam Deck are horrible (placing bricks where you want them is quite challenging with the d-pad).
The story is a bit depressing, with a bittersweet ending.
The game is very short.

Overall:
Somewhat reluctant recommendation. If you like Lego, buy it on sale.

It's a rarity, a real treat.
Although the game is obviously hentai themed, it is not the only selling point.
Quite the opposite in fact, since it is actually a really well made metroidvania with a great soundtrack.
Neither too easy nor too short and works perfectly on steam deck.
I only wish there were more games like this one.

The best space shooter you can get.
The controls are precise and fully customizable.
Each location is unique and beautifully crafted.
The combat is challenging, but also really fun.
