Early Access Review
Pinnacle of gaming.

You should definitely play custom and play on the largest map with 6 Mimics and a lobby full of friends.

Early Access Review
based viking gaming. The serene mining, crafting, and building aspects of Minecraft with the upgrades and progress made from beating bosses and expanding into new biomes of Terraria. All set in a stylistically pretty viking mythology world.
Naturally there are bugs and tweaks that need to be fixed/made. Stamina is a massive pain in the ass. My biggest complaint is the Plains biome, with the highest equipment you have going into this biome (Wolf/Silver) I do not understand how you are supposed to successfully get the necessary items you need to progress from Fuling camps when it spawns like 20-30 of them that can kill you instantly if 3 or 4 of them hit you at once.
8/10, definitely has potential and is very fun up until this point, clearly needs some changes and improvements but that's early access for you

Spelunky 2 is a game that will push your reactions, memory, and intelligence to the absolute edge of your seat. Many complain about the lack of "new" stuff added to this game from Spelunky HD, I disagree. While The Dwelling (Mines), Jungle, Ice Caves, and Temple still exist, they're full of new challenges, new enemies and new map generation that will make it feel like a new experience compared to the first game, as well as the additions of the Tide pool, Neo Babylon, and many secret areas that are super difficult to reach.

Map generation feels rather lackluster compared to Spelunky HD however. While there is a randomness to the level generation, in Spelunky 2 it feels like there are a set number of "Tiles" that just get strewn randomly in a level that has a generated path from start to finish. While I do see patterns in generation in Spelunky HD, in this game I know exactly what I'm dealing with when I see the area because it feels like the same puzzle, just arranged in different orders, as opposed to the true(er) random generation of Spelunky HD.

While Spelunky is renowned for its difficulty and in the majority of cases you can pin your death down to one or more mistakes you made that led to your death. However majority does not mean all. It is unavoidable due to the random nature of the game but ultimately ends up souring the experience you have, when you feel like there was nothing you could have done better to win. Just gotten into a level and a leprechaun flew into the ghost vase? Better complete that level quickly! Spawn into Neo Babylon and a spark trap hits a UFO sending it directly at you before you can blink? Shoulda reacted quicker, idiot! A cat hit by a fire bug walks onto a robot bomb, which then explodes and coats the exit of the level in lava making it literally impossible to escape the level? Just don't get instakilled when you walk into lava, duh!

I'm cherry-picking and orchestrating events where on a perfectly played run you would still end up losing due to no fault of your own, and while these scenarios are rare, especially if this occurs when you're very late into a run, you feel very cheated and fed up with the game.

All in all I recommend the game. It tests your reactions, intelligence, and forces you to think of the worst possible outcome of every choice you make so that you can avoid these nightmare scenarios as much as possible.

If you're reading negative reviews and fearing this game may be too difficult or that you will get frustrated, I don't think you have much to worry about. When you start a new game you get the option to choose whether there is a tutorial or not, or whether you have a hud or not. I've played with tutorial off and hud on and haven't been confused bar one moment where I wasn't sure how to attack, though in hindsight it makes sense how to.

The controls you are told are very basic and don't explain a lot, but that's the point of the game, you're told what each button does, given a tribe of primates and told to go survive, you figure out how to do things pretty quickly, if you have the hud turned on button prompts will always appear when they need to, I don't understand how people are complaining about the controls being bad or confusing to grasp, I'm playing on a gamepad and it feels great to me.

I don't want to spoil too much because finding things out is half the fun (the other half is swinging in trees), but it's really not that hard to figure out how to make things, it's a lot of common sense. You have a branch and you want to make it sharp? Bash something hard against it.

And to top it all off you're a prehistoric primate monkey man climbing trees and swinging from branches and you can just kinda mess around in the environment, occasionally eating, sleeping, and drinking and have plenty of fun

Game is fun. Community is the opposite of fun.

As a survivor you get 3 other 7 IQ brainlets that turn the game into a 1v1 with some fleshy obstacles between you and the killer, who will promptly knock you onto the floor and watch you die instead of chasing literally anyone else.
Alternatively you can queue with 3 friends that are good at the game and utterly wipe anyone you come against because being able to communicate with team mates is like a mix of 3 or 4 in-game perks all at once.

As a killer you either get to enjoy a tense game where you hunt 4 lonely survivors.
Alternatively you can feel helpless with a group of 4 pros that will all get out within 2 minutes and there's nothing you can do to change that.

The game is very fun when you're matched with people at the same skill level as you but this game likes to match you with people that are either far below or far above your skill level so you either wipe the floor with your opponents faces or your face gets wiped on the floor.

Wait until it's on sale to buy it because with how toxic the community is, the game is not worth the full price
