I refunded this game when my 1 player "offline" game crashed at the exact same second my internet connection died.

I'm not the sharpest person in the world, but even I can figure out that's no bueno.

This sat in my library for quite a while. When I first got it, I wasn't into the cozy scene too much, so I found it hard to understand. But now revisiting it a year or two later, I can say I was missing out. This game is phenomenal.
The graphics style reminds me of the DOS era Discworld game, which is high praise. The sense of humor in the game, from NPC names to the various books you find lying around, is spot on. And the generational approach to character advancement is unique. Sprinkle in some dark themes with the old world fae, not to mention the fact that, aside from maybe the prologue, you're not rushed to do anything in here, and can definitely play the way you want.

I will say it's not without flaws, though. The game feels like it's trying to do a few things at once but sacrificing one for the other. On the one side there's a traditional fantasy story, fight-the-monster, save-the-region etc etc. But it also tries to tie character development into a generational improvement mechanic. Nice idea, but it's utterly unneeded. You can easily finish the entire game with one character.

The game has the pacing of any other cozy style game like this (2 weeks a season, 4 seasons). Problem is the character generation mechanic takes actual in-game years. You'll be finished with the game and moving on before you ever need to pass on the Kynseed. That's why so few people have the achievement.

Balance those things out and you've got a real winner I'd love to see more of.

I mean, there's nothing to hate here...just nothing to like, either. The graphics and animation are nice, I especially love the little flips when jumping or swimming. But very uninspired otherwise. Fills the farm/collect resources itch I guess until something more interesting comes along.
I also found the UI very clunky, especially with decorating the home. Oh well. Wait for it to be on sale again - preferably cheaper.

Let's try to copy the feel of a LEGO game but cram ALL the different gameplay styles into one game. I had no idea what I was doing on the first few levels, and even once I started figuring things out some of the levels so far have just been ridiculous in all the wrong ways.

This game just flat out does not work out of the box. You have to make adjustments to the installation just to run the game, then random glitches and freezes, couldn't even get past tutorials. Given the age, I don't see that changing. Avoid it.

Cannot recommend this game enough. I've seen a lot of games tagged as "detective" or "mystery", but this was the first and only one where I actually felt like I was using real deductive skills to progress. Do not let the graphics throw you off. This is a must-own game.

Extremely addictive for the collectors out there. Kinda like Harvest Moon and Pokemon had a child in the world of Adventure Time. For all its addictive qualities, the drawbacks are just as severe. Balance was apparently the farthest thing from anyone's mind when creating this game. I had to search the internet for some game concepts because there was no in-game explanations (hype for example). Some resources are way too plentiful, others are scarce, but not in balance with their demand/usage. And too many currencies. It can make your head spin.

Good if you're looking for a game to fill those niches for collecting or a laid back farming sim experience. The rough edges will shine through eventually, though.
