First Thoughts

I have a thing for colony managment and building games so naturally I was drawn to RimWorld. The game’s promise of managing a colony on a distant planet with unique challenges and stories intrigued me. As I played deeper into the game, I found myself hooked by the rich and often chaotic experience of running a colony.

Positives

[✔️] Deep Simulation Mechanics: The game offers a complex and detailed simulation of colony management, from resource gathering to psychological states, creating a rich and engaging experience.

[✔️] Emergent Storytelling: Random events and interactions between colonists create unique stories and scenarios, like being raided by mechs or your colonists falling in love.

[✔️] Customizable Gameplay and Mods: We can further customize our experience with mods (Steam Workshop) and different scenarios.

[✔️] Challenging and Rewarding: The game’s difficulty and management demands provide a satisfying challenge. Gotta love that feeling when we successfully defend our colony from a massive raid.

Negatives

[❌] Learning Curve: The first couple of times playing the game I had almost no idea what I had to do, took me a while to figure it out.

[❌] Repetitive Elements: Certain gameplay aspects like resource management and combat can become repetitive over time.
