This game has high potential, but ultimately it's just not a complete product at this stage.
What I like:
  • The road tools make it impossible for me to go back to C:S I - they're so much nicer to work with.
  • I like how you get to choose which buildings to unlock for each level.
What I don't like:
  • The traffic AI is certainly one of the features of all time. Cars will change lanes on your highway for seemingly no reason, which can and will cause an accordion effect and back up traffic. They will also disregard traffic laws to an extent, e.g., taking left turns in junctions that have left turns banned, or driving on pedestrian roads or bus lanes.
  • The game has randomly crashed on me multiple time.
  • The economy seems broken - sometimes one or more industries would suddenly start paying negative tax to me. Maybe this is intended behaviour and they're really just siphoning funds from the city somehow. Likewise, sometimes the tax for one or more industries would skyrocket in the other direction, filling up my money bin.
  • Every now and then trams, subway trains, trains, or busses will just stay put at one of their stops for an arbitrary amount of time.
  • The traffic simulation would eventually overwhelm my PC as my first city got to a population of around 500k. I have a 5950X and an RTX 3080, so not top-of-the-line nor the latest generation, but I still didn't think it would be that harsh on my PC. This was in early January, so it's possible that optimisations have improved the situation.

I've spent 200 hours in C:S II and I would lie if I said that I haven't enjoyed this game, but the issues that plague this game has finally made me turn to other games for now. I'll definitely come back to this game when/if the situation improves.

Early Access Review
I've spent around 50 hours in a co-op world now, and I don't really have anything to complain about. It's just as enjoyable to build your village as it is to go on an adventure. There is no native Linux support, but I haven't had any issues running it through proton so far.
