Okay I'm not one to ever write reviews for games but the mixed reception for this one is really baffling to me.

The game is beautiful. Every sprite is artfully made with clear love and care. Animations are endearing and polished. Music is quite good albeit a bit forgettable at times, yet I still caught myself humming along to some tunes pretty often.

Gameplay is what people seem to have most of a problem with... Game is definitely hard, but by no means unfair or glitchy from what I have experienced. The controls and their quirks can take a bit to get used to. However, much like every other modern 2D platformer, if you want to have smooth and clean movement, you need to put in time and effort into that. The game definitely allows for satisfying and smooth map traversal, but it is definitely dictated by skill. The spaces between save points can be long but all this does is encourage mindful and strategic gameplay. You can't just turn your brain off and hack-n-slash at everything until the next save. You will die several times getting between save points, and every single death, you will have learned something and become better for it. The monsters all pose a real threat in some way shape or form, and you WILL get hit a dumb slime sometimes, and that's just part of the game. You learn how to handle different combinations of mobs at the same time, and the game definitely eases you into learning each monsters attacks before throwing multiple mixes at you.

Bosses are definitely the kind of encounters that you most likely won't beat on your 1st, 2nd, or even 5th attempt. They range from simple combat patterns to more complex and nuanced behaviors depending on your range, actions, timing, etc.. Every encounter feels meaningful and rewarding to best, and requires strategy, patience, and skill to overcome.

I've been loving this game. Definitely a good timesink for completionists as well. Don't listen to the bad reviews. It's good.
