I've played 7 Days to Die with my friends since 2014. I've had lots of fun with the game and have been through the many different versions of it. I've seen the game add and remove features, enemies, and change their UI countless times and supported them along the way.

That support ended when I found out that not only was serial harasser Vic Mignogna added as a member of the VA cast, but the lead developer is heavy into the use of AI, making me question how they were able to quickly find and add so many art assets.

Even though I've put in my fair share of time into this game, I have to recommend that you not give your money to the developer.

There might come a day down the line where I will play once again, but it'll probably be years before I reach that point.

The game WAS fun.

Microtransactions made it less fun.

The president of Tripwire being a misogynist piece of human trash sealed the game's fate for me.

Alan Wake was a game sitting in my library for the longest time before I started playing it. I somewhat regret taking so long to do so. The characters and story hooked me from the beginning and kept me coming back for more.

The game is fairly short (I completed it in about 12 hours without achievement hunting), but the way they have each chapter (named "Episodes" in the game, to give you the feel of a TV series) is great. The small snippets you can catch on TV every now and again are well done (you'll love Night Springs if you're a Twilight Zone fan), combat is fairly simple, and the few puzzles that are in the game are easy enough where you won't have to rack your brain to complete them.

Only con I would have about the game is the seeming over-advertisement of product in the game. From vehicles to Microsoft promotion to Energizer, you'll notice every single one. It doesn't detract from the overall game, but it's a small tick against what is otherwise a great game.

Grab it on a sale if you can, or grab it at full price if you're a fan of Remedy's other games (namely Control, as there are a few pieces in that game that refer to Alan Wake).

I bought the game when it was on Greenlight a while back, and while it has somewhat improved since then, there's still some lingering issues with the game.

The gameplay itself is fairly solid. If you're familiar with other side-scrolling survival games like Terraria or StarBound, you'll be right at home. The progression system to be able to craft better items for your base and gear gives you goals to work toward. Crafting that one weapon that plows through enemies you were having trouble with is always satisfying, and having missions to clear out an enemy nest is a good change of pace from resource gathering.

The biggest issue I've had with the game is the UI. Tooltips for players new to this particular game would be helpful. There are times when the screen becomes cluttered by the menus and crafting screens, and the screens themselves will become somewhat unresponsive at times after long periods of play.

Regardless of the game's issues, which I hope can be fixed in future patches, this is still a fairly fun game, and it's good for a change from the other survival side-scrollers. Give it a look if you can.

I wrote this off as a crap game at first, but it seems to be genuinely fun. It's got the same addictive quality to it that Lemmings did all those years ago, and with scoreboards, you'll be trying to beat your friends in every way possible. Give it a try!
