If you are a fan of Bethesda RPG's, this game is an absolute buy. It is a far more refined version of what they do best.

Is it perfect? No But it is very good.
The biggest concern is NOT bugs. (amazingly) On older hardware or lower spec systems, there are some performance issues. But there are optimized setting out there (like from Digital Foundry) that should get you a decent framerate. If you're really concerned, wait for driver optimizations to come out for things like DLSS.

Set your expectations!!!!!
This is not No Man's Sky. This is not Outer Worlds. This is not Balders Gate 3. This is not Elite Dangerous.

This is not whatever other game you can think of that is not made by Bethesda. Are there some elements of those other games in Starfield? Yeah sure. Do some of those games do things better than Starfield. Sure. But again, those games are not Starfield.

Starfield is it's own thing..... from Bethesda. Is it Skyrim in space? A bit. Is it Fallout in Space? A bit. Starfield's DNA comes from both of those games and it is on full display. It has a massive open universe where there are always things to do. A giant play ground for you to explore where things seem to be always thrown at you.

Ignore the haters and come with an open mind. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

I wouldn't buy anything from this developer again.

- 7 years of development for what amounts to a BASIC survival crafting game
- Was released on console after 5 years of development and then new features were pushed to console way before they were to pc.
- Last update prior to 1.0 was Jan 2022. 7 months later, we get a hand full of bug fixes and 1.0 post. Yay?
- Coop is broken AF and has been for months.

The fact that there was such a large gap between updates and so little in the 1.0 update, I would gather the devs are just done with it. Who knows if they'll ever fix the co-op.

Maybe pick it up if you're bored and it's on sale for 5 bucks.

Early Access Review
In it's current state I can't recommend a buy for this. Not even at the lowest level. The controls aren't very good. You can't rebind keys. Missions are basically broken. The 2nd mission they gave me I'm supposed to buy an item that is no where to be found. A side mission I took there's zero guidance on how to complete it because the mission tracking feature doesn't work. There are frequent game crashes or game blocking bugs. It almost seems as if you spend more time in loading screens (because they are very frequent) or animation sequences than you do actually playing. I'm not fond of travel mechanics. The ui needs serious work. (small text, can't move anything around) Reloading mechanics are kind of a joke. Quite frankly the game is a bit of a mess at this point.

There is some potential here but it's got a long way to go. Since I'm already bought in I'll give a few months and see where the development goes. I recommend everyone wait as well.

If you like zombie survival games then you will like this. There are some areas where this game is an obvious console to pc port but if you can look past those issues then there is fun to be had. I'm not sure it's quite worth the full price but when on sale it's definately worth it. You can blast through the main story line fairly quickly but if you do side quests and try and build up your characters then you're looking at probably 20hrs of gameplay.
