Early Access Review
(This game is Early Access at the time of writing, may update when the full release drops!)

I'll start off by saying the style of game intrigued me from the very beginning. I remember when it dropped on Steam for wishlisting and I thought to myself, "oh, another zombie game?" but after looking at the preview images, I couldn't wait! It seemed like a fresher take on the zombie experience. I've seen people compare it to This War of Mine but I've personally never played it. Feel free to comment below what's similar!

Anyways.. The immediate tense atmosphere when booting up the game gave me goosebumps. The guttural whimpering and groaning of an infected(? zombie) made my adrenaline start to kick in. And then, the menu screen. Flickering lights with infected, putrid skin and veins popped out of their backs (like the promo art) really set the tone for what we were dealing with. They seem to go into a "dormant" state, which is what I noted first. Upon clicking new game, you get a cutscene that involves the mayor giving his final speech to the people of Walton. It immerses you into the role of a citizen left behind by the government official you trusted to keep you safe. After all, there's dead folks everywhere and the world you knew is gone. What are you supposed to do? Well, now that's up to you. A voice cuts the mayor off and tells you it's time to figure your own way out of the city. And then, you choose your set of survivors.

I personally went with Daphne and Penny. Daphne is more of a home-body character. She's a good cook but a pacifist, so her attacks deal less damage. Penny is a sneak character that can do more damage with blades and scavenge quieter. They seemed like a great duo, and they are! There's always good, homemade foods at the shelter and a reliable pack mule to go location to location to find whatever is needed. Sometimes, you'll even find fellow survivors to recruit along the way. There are 13 in total, scattered throughout the map. They're usually found on rooftops or barricaded rooms that only have one way in. Keep your eyes peeled! The more people, the better! Although.. that's more mouths to feed too.

The audio in-game is just as awesome as the menu screen, by the way. You can always hear infected shuffling around or groaning as they sit dormant. It makes every new discovery tense, but still gives a fresh feeling going location to location. Obviously some areas are more dangerous than others so although the gameplay loop is simple - enter location, take it slow, kill infected, loot, leave - you're still getting a new experience with every new place you visit. The threat indicator is very important, as if that wasn't obvious. The higher the threat, the more creepy sounds you're going to hear!

* Side note about the audio: the OST, It's Only the End (Of the World) is a BANGER. It will play during the credit sequence but I kind of wish it would play during character select, even if it's just an instrumental.

As for the graphics, I love them! You're stuck in 1980's Texas and it definitely feels that way. There are arcades, huge bars, family cars, and folks dressed in light clothing appropriate for that Texas heat. You do start the game in August, after all. The game moves side-to-side rather than giving you a huge overview or an in-location map. The characters look like they belong to this city and era, mostly because there's no custom character option at the time of typing this. I actually have no idea if that will ever be implemented.

The game isn't too gory, I'd say very light on blood but lots and lots of bodies. Not to mention the infected that still wander around have visible signs of infection. They also seem to retain some of their humanity which is a take I love! But I think I've rambled enough. This review is kind of all over the place but I wanted to jot down my thoughts and express my love for this game!

TLDR; game is in EA but is fun to play! Only 2 ways to escape the city but you'll have a great time exploring Walton!

It’s been a while since I’ve sat down and played a bit of Palia but this game is always in the back of my mind. It’s such a cute and cozy game that makes you take a deep breath and forget all the worries of life

I guess I should start this review by saying that I'm a huge fan of the visual novel genre. I've played several in my life time; I've always been captivated by the magic of stories being told right before my eyes. But nothing has come close to Our Life: Beginnings and Always. This game is so captivating - in practically every sense of the word. The characters are lovable. The setting is breathtaking. The story is as sweet as honey. The artwork is gorgeous. The music is perfection.

There's something magical about this game that I can't seem to put into words the way I want to. It's such a comfort to experience Sunset Bird and everything it can offer; you're living a life that is easy-going with mild drama beats in between. You're experiencing life as it happens, making choices and friends along the way. The people you meet are so incredibly genuine that you can't help but fall in love with everyone. Your moms are kind and trustworthy. Your sister plays the part of an older sister perfectly; she starts out trying to be the independent sister and becomes a close confidant to you later in life.

Cove's parents have real issues that I'm sure a lot of people could relate to. Your friends love you unconditionally and support you no matter who you choose to be. Lee, your cousin, brightens up your life in the best ways. And Cove.. Oh, your love interest. He's written in such a way that he feels real. He starts off shy and uninterested in his new life but as you grow older, you watch him blossom into a young man that has his own stance on life. If you choose to marry him with the DLC, you can experience a beautiful custom wedding that actually brought tears to my eyes. The story, from beginning to end, has so many sweet moments that you want to come back again and again.

I've never experienced anything like Our Life: Beginnings and Always, but I'm truly happy to have been here for the experience.

Still a bit buggy but way more stable than the original release. I highly recommend you run medium to lower settings even if you have a good computer to minimize stutter. It's not a perfect story but Johnny Silverhand definitely carries. Judy and Panam are the absolute best romances, too, so the side stories are pretty awesome.

I've had a lot of fun with Cyberpunk despite the mixed reviews and hopefully you will too!

There's always new characters being added to the roster. It's both a good and bad thing.

Good: frequently fresh content

Bad: poorly balanced characters

However, it's a fun experience AND it's free. Really no downside in my eyes. Ying best healer <3

Honestly, the game isn't in its best state right now but after the 6 year stream, I have a lot of hope for the future of DbD. For that reason, I'm recommending it. New players might be a bit irritated by the stagnant gameplay but give it a chance. It's way more fun with friends (especially if you're not a bully squad and you just meme and dream).

I main Legion so the rework definitely helps this review being positive. It's a refreshing take on Legion despite still being the noticably same character. I also play a lot of BOON GAMEPLAY so you know I'm such a fun survivor lol

But seriously, give the game a chance. It SHOULD become better in the near future.

I absolutely adore this game but unfortunately, it's less than stable. There's a few steps you can take to stabilize your game, though. I'll include the step-by-step with links and link the original post that helped me troubleshoot just in case more assistance is needed.

Guide: https://test-steamproxy.haloskins.io/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2038838545
^^ This guide is amazing, huge shoutout to the creator!

Step-by-Step:

1) Disable Steam Cloud / Steam Overlay
- This causes a LOT of crashes so disabling it should bring more playtime your way.

2) Download Console Content Patch ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/ffxiii-2-console-16829894 )
- This is actually optional but it'll add content that was exclusive to consoles. I personally use it! Remember to use the command console!! Type in 1, let it do what it needs to do. Once finished, type in 2. Let that load and then you're done!

3) Download FF13Fix ( https://github.com/rebtd7/FF13Fix/releases )
- This is ESSENTIAL if you want to stabilize your game. It's a simple fix but it will save your sanity. All you need to do is run it on the correct file and it'll give your game a new life.

NOTE: if your game still crashes after these fixes, check the integrity of your files. If there are missing or corrupted files, let Steam download them again and try the fixes. It's easy to accidentally click something wrong but it's even easier to try again! I know this is a lot but it'll definitely give you the opportunity to actually enjoy the game. Good luck!
