for those who love roguelite games this is a masterpiece in the making in my honest opinion, it's graphically appealing with it's heavy leanings towards comic like aesthetics the game play is fluid and feels very clean, there's a variety of play styles for each character.

as a solo experience it's been very satisfying thus far. I can't comment on the multiplayer as i've not had a chance to try it yet.

put simply i'm changing from a Recommended to NOT Recommended due to the lack of update schedule and by proxy the decimation of their player base... Honestly no idea what the devs are doing but it's clearly not taking this golden opportunity seriously as they've missed it by miles. this could have been great and instead it burned out before it really got going.

they've been planning this upcoming update for months at this point and each time it was getting close to being released they'd push it back... honestly why they don't lessen the scale of their updates is beyond me but this mammoth update has become something of a joke among the people i play Battlebit with... and I'd be very suprised even when it is released if it doesn't have at least one or two disruptive bugs.

on that note i guess we'll see how the games population fairs after this update (eventually) releases and i may or may not change my recommendation when that happens.

As it stands i'd rather recommend 2042 than BBR right now and I never thought i'd be saying that to anyone

this game is everything i could want from an ARPG realistically, anything from a plethora of classes to an abundance of items and skills, to customise your character to fit your playstyle... honestly can't praise this game enough for the most part...

however there is one aspect of the game that really let's it down currently and that is the multiplayer.. it has several issues including but not limited to transitions bugging out and being inaccessible OR when you do trainsition sometimes you will see two of your character after the load screen and the camera will be locked onto one of the copies but when you click to move it moves the one the camera isn't locked onto... neither of which happened while i was playing solo, i've heard other issues but I've not experience them myself so i won't present them here.

if the Multiplayer issues are fixed i'll amend my review and most likely change my recommendation to a yes but i guess we'll just have to see how the chips fall going forward.

so i'm going to keep this simple. see bottom for the TL:DR

General Thoughts

so when I saw this pop up in my steam review it looked interesting and upon playing it i do enjoy the game play, the art style is very nice (kind of reminds me of darkest dungeon in that regard)

Issues

To be honest there is one glaring issue from a game play perspective and that's desync. it happens so often there's no way this got through the beta prior to coming to early access and by all accounts i've heard from people that have played before early access it was also a problem then as well.

it happens so often that at this point the game is a hard thumbs down literally the biggest issue, for me at least.

Will i come back/update the review

conditionally yes, and that condition is that the Dev's actually fix this one glaring issue that soooooo many people have experienced... it's not a localised issue to a small group of people. will that make it a thumbs up? don't know, that'll depend on the outcome of any "fixes" they put out and whether it actually fixes the issue without causing other glaring problems.

TL:DR

game looks good and plays good, but there is a glaring desync issue that happens every few matches ruining any notoriety gains which harshly impacts your ability to get good gear/loot.

Windward is; in my opinion a very good game with plenty of potential to become even better further down the road, with new features and maybe new mechanics (storms, choppy seas, etc), as it stands now it is fun to play with others you start off with a small ship not particularly good at anything specific you choose a starting faction and then play the game however you so choose, whether that be by fighting pirates or completing quests for one of the towns, or perhaps even trading between the towns.

while this is all well and good it can take some time to get on your feet, and buy your first ship to replace your starting one. This isn't a bad thing as I for one like a challenge and love being made to work for my rewards, however one thing this game lacks is the ability to stay interesting for lengthy periods of time if you're playing solo, which is something I would eventually like to see addressed though it's not the most important thing in the world.

Graphics
7/10

The graphics in this game are rather splendid considering the game is not overly complicated in it's gameplay, but it more than makes up for it with the lovely visuals, when you're sailing around a map and you can see the trees rustling and the reflection of the your ship in the water it's rather nice and somewhat relaxing.

There's more to it though, The lighthouses actually shine a light out to sea when it gets dark and the light actually plays off your sails if you're close enough, it's not just a layer of light that generically overlaps everything, the waves in the ocean themselves are very nice to look at, especially if you have some nice music to chill too at the same time.

Gameplay
6/10

As i mentioned in my general overview of the game, there is enough gameplay and enjoyment to be had if playing with others, to go into more detail let us look at what you can actually do as a group:

Expand Territory

As a group you're able to take over territory for the faction you chose to join, (so long as your faction has territory already adjacent to the area you're trying to take control of that is), and the more people you have in your group the easier this becomes, the pirates in Windward are merciless they won't often just have one or two ships, there will be many a time when you'll be trying to take over pirate territory to expand your factions control, only to have to face many pirates (from my experience 5 - 7) all at the same time and some of those pirates will probably be captains in the tougher areas of the server you're playing on and eventually you'll reach lords and dread lords which will happily chew you up and spit you out if you're not ready for them. this is why you need a group because no matter what ship you're in, unless you've gone defence for your specialisation or are some what over leveled for the zone you're in, taking out a pirate zone solo is neigh impossible.

Trading

Trading isn't necessarily a group activity if all i was to base this section on was the trading quests you receive from towns ("drop cargo of at..."), no instead if we look at levelling up a town or increasing a towns rank you do this by either, "A" quests for that town being completed or "B" from finding and selling materials the town needs to the town, a group effort in this scenario makes the task a little easier as the goods a town requires increases for each level so having help here is greatly appreciated as it saves one person a lot of work.

PvP

not something I've spent much time doing (as doing so requires you to wear a black flag which unfortunately that makes you hostile to everything other than pirates), but from what I've heard PvP is all well and good until high levels decide to enter low level areas with black flags and wreck the newer players, now while i know that's what the white flag is for i don't think you start off with a white flag i think you have to find it just like you have to find the black flag (which to my knowledge drops from pirates, but i'm unaware as to what drops the white flag or how it is obtained).

so what about solo you ask?

solo gameplay is possible but in comparison to playing with a friend or a group of people it is considerably slower and in some cases (such as expanding territories), much harder.

these are my thoughts on the game and if anything changes i'll modify my review.

after using Dimmdrive for a while I've personally found it to be effective to a point.. i'm limited on my laptop with how much ram i can spare (i have 8GB and give it 4GB for Dimmdrive), so i have just enough space for some of my smaller games like baldur's gate enchanced edition and it does improve how quick it loads up no doubt about that, and in BG:EE's case it does seem to have helped with the amount of time it takes to save the game in a multiplayer match with other people in your game.

is it worth it?

probably not, until you get a system with enough ram to spare to say give dimmdrive 20gb of ram and load bigger games like skyrim onto it it's not a neccessity but if you have a rig able to more fully utilise this program then i'd say go for it.

that's my stance on this program anyway.

brilliant gameplay and fairly balanced classes make this an excellent game to play with friends (either with them or against), there are issues of course but what game doesn't have an issue or two to deal with, but as it stands there is nothing majorly problematic with nosgoth at the moment and would make a good addition to anyones steam library.

this has to be one of the best survival games i've played in a while.

it may not look the best but it sure as hell has plenty of content and so far i've not noticed any instabilities either in the single player world or when playing with friends. any issues i did have were caused by my firewall.

the gun customisation is fairly decent at this stage in the game, various scopes (x6, x7, x12) are what i've found so far along with holographic and RDS. i know there's also a x20 scope but that only spawns already attached to a rather rare gun. there's also silencers, grips and some guns even have drum magazines which carry a lot more bullets as you can probably imagine, which brings me to another interesting point, the crafting system you can actually refill your emptied magazines by using the clip and the required amount of bullets which for the most part won't be so bad because at the start the guns you'll find will use civilian ammunition and not military which is a bit harder to get your hands on.

expanding on the crafting system a bit more.. it's fairly well fleshed out as it is though i can see it being expanded greatly as the developer continues to work on Unturned, you can refill clips, make campfires, bandages, nails... and various other bits and pieces some of which are used for further crafting .

there's really not a bad thing to say about this game and there's plenty i've not mentioned, because i'd be here all day typing this out.

right now in it's current state i'd probably give it a 4/5 while i can't find anything wrong with how the game works the only thing i'd like to see is more animals or zombies in the wilderness.. i would probably say zombies more than animals or even zombified animals would be good or maybe zombified attack dogs in the military locations.

TL:DR

[+] good gun customisation
[+] plenty of weapons, equipment and attachments
[+] bug free (from my own experience) for an early access game that's impressive
[+] stable multiplayer
[-] wilderness areas could do with some more monsters or wildlife
[-/+] map isn't that big so while some may consider that a negative i like the map as it's easier to remember where the towns and bases are.

if i had to describe this game in a sentence it would be "Unturned is a mix of Rust/Minecraft/DayZ"

Muffin Knight is a fun little game which I play when killing time and when me and my friends are looking for something simplistic to play because we're feeling too lazy to put much energy into one of the bigger more involved games we normally play together.. i'd recommend to anyone who just likes a good laugh and even a decent challenge at times because if you don't keep on top of killing the enemies they can soon enough overwhelm you. ;)
