The original Outcast was, and has been, one of my all-time favorite games.

I was very excited to see this re-envisioned version come out. I was hesitant at first at the price. But I ended up buying it pre-release, as I wanted to support the developers. It was an excellent purchase.

I’m 35 hours into the game and haven’t finished it yet (but this is my play style). The open world design allows me to work through quests or explore – and I love exploring. There are 25 Daokas (portals), so why wouldn’t I explore the map and find them all? 😊 There are 20 Essence shrines which give you 1 additional health each, so, of course, I had to find all of these.

The game has so many tie backs to the original, that will spark great memories for those of us that played the original. But this game is great for newcomers as well, as there is no need to have played the original.

During dialogs, they have a button that shows you a short explanation of words that are specific to this game! So cool, and I bet this will be copied in other games in the future.

The main character, Cutter Slade, now has a jetpack and a glide suit. Neither were in the original, and they are a blast to play with.

The cutscenes move the story along and are professional, and thankfully, never too long.

It’s just a great game, and one I’m sure the developers are proud of – as they should be.

Awesome game. I love that you start out with conveyor belt technology, and that it requires no power to work. And then later, I learn that while research requires certain items to complete, you can automate the construction and delivery of these items as well. I've already lost several nights of sleep, and expect to lose more!

I bought this game in early access, and the developers keep updating the game. Fabulous effort. I have completed the game, but with the new updates, I am looking forward to another win soon!

Early Access Review
I highly recommend this game.

I don't know what I paid for this game. 20 - 30 dollars? I've played 100 hours as of this write up. That's $0.50/hour for entertainment (50 cents per hour). Where are you going to get a better return? Movies? ($10 for 2 hours = $5.00/hour).

This is one of the rare games that has excelled at early access. It has been great fun playing it, getting good at it, then seeing new classes and new maps arrive ... and playing it all over again (the early access experience). Even when the game goes GA ... you will still want to level many (if not all) of the classes. Finish all of the maps on all difficulty levels. Etc.

This game is also an excellent example of a better 2.0 experience than the first game. Assuming you played the first game -- everything is better.

By the time you bother to read my review, you llikely already know that the game is an "up to" 6 player co-op (yes, you can play it solo). You fight off waves of increasingly difficult zombies (zeds) ... to get to the boss wave, and end victorious. The level difficulties require a different playing style. NORMAL, even HARD, you can rush into battle. SUICIDAL and HELL ON EARTH modes require strategy, and are actually quite fun with team players that cooperate on that strategy.

It is the coop mode that really helps the game shine. Seeing players toss their 1st round dollars at the medic so the medic can heal them faster -- seeing players send money to a revived player to restock -- seeing players rally (or flee together) to the call of "2 Fleshpounds on the left" ... it has been great fun, and I expect it to continue.

My only negative is that they remap the keyboard controls with each major update. BUT THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE GOING TO DO SO IN ADVANCE ... so I was warned and took the appropriate precautions. Thank you.

Honestly, an awesome experience. Almost makes me want to work in the game development arena ... not just be a player ... almost. While I love a great movie, I would not want to direct one. I'm happy in my role as "target audience" for this game.

It's 25 cents.

If you ever wanted to play Missle Command, but also be able to shoot back ... this is it.

Reading about how to play from others made getting into the game easier. I went from losing my first game on easy, to winning 3 games, even one on NORMAL in 40 minutes. The game has some short comings, though.

Map movement is on the sad side of "OK" ... it's workable, but without the space bar to get back home, it would not be playable. Dear developer ... give us a rotate command (or keep the planet orientation always north).

You cannot defend your cities by shooting down enemy missles until they are close enough. Dear developer, give us an indication that the missle is close enough to shoot down. A clear warning sound would be nice also, if we are off elsewhere. COLOR it, or pop up a 3d "shield" view around our territory to indicate it has been breached, -- something. It's impossible to tell when they are close enough. You can get better at guessing, but you will always be guessing. And sometimes it takes 3 ... and sometimes 10 anti-missle shots to take an enemy missle down.

Even sitting with plenty of resources, and 5 missles, I had troubles launching a missle at the one remaining enemy city. While the enemy was launching 3 in a row. Eventually "something" gave, and I was able to lob 3 missles towards his remaining city and win. Dear developer ... if you can fix this, then giving us the ability to target a country's missle silos and/or anti-missle silos, with a rebuild option (for when ours get destroyed), would be a nice add for a longer game.

Not sure how long I will play this. But I like it for what it is. I'd give it a 5/10 ... but it only cost 25 cents ... so 6/10.

1999 Mode + Scavenger objective really makes it a whole new playthrough experience ... no F5 save, no F9 reload, and every item scavenged counts!
