80s gothuc fantasy married with FROM soft old school First Person RPG but with modern mechanics leeway.

This game captures the 80s fantasy ethic almost perfectly and oozes with atmosphere, gameplay loop satisfying, some nice secret % non plot areas and the foghtng mechanics pretty decent (ranged magic and physical attacks both viable options) I persinakly don't like the faster weapons but the system works and can see why the fencing approach could appeal, the meatier power stroke swords and the like ate my area)

Good mix of heal / care, magic (via spell ring slots,) and weaponry overall with different elemental choices depending on what you are facing - monster area variety good as well (some drop unique items)

Overall recommended if you want a good old school action first person RPG

Early Access Review
A solid followup to the original Hades game, maintaining the familiar mechanics and gameplay while adding new ones. Playing in early access it doesn't look like much is missing, there are tweaks made here and there to shore up some of the elements. So far no bugs seen apart from one very minor glitch visual glitch in a run.

If you like Action Roguelites with excellent acting and a decent story (which can be skipped if just into the action), would recommend. No experience playing Hades I needed.

Development on this stopped after one map and plays like a ghost train ride with one of the ghosts actively haunting you and the team of players attempting to stop the ghost. Your milage may vary with this game, depending on how you feel about ghost train horror rides but in terms of quality on display in the one map I would say it is very good, possibly better than some of it's peers which focus on multiple level / scenario experiences but in smaller parts as while you only get one map and set scenarios the who atmosphere, music and theme is built and stage managed very well.

You can play this multiplayer or single player with the ghost, or single player with no ghost - personally I prefer the last options as it means you don't have the risk of a game over and allows you to take your time and let the atmosphere sinki n, as there are a couple of genuinely really well put together jump scares in the map along with a couple of psychological ones and even a route puzzle you can follow that has nothing to do with the the main game goal.

Recommended if you go in with an open mind and you like atmospheric maps, jump scares and good map stagecraft.

Pretty neat Pixelart action RPG set in a dystopian/eutophian (depending on your character's perspective) future where meat is a large thing. The artwork looks low res but the style fits the post-apocalypse look the game is going for, and all the areas seem handcrafted and detailed enough to be unique (from forests to cites to monuments)

Comes across as a love letter to fallout 1/2 mixed with a dash of cyberpunk thrown in, if fallout was an action game.

Game interface seems fairly intuitively designed as you can access melee, ranged, psi-abilities and actions all within a few button presses. Can be a bit confusing initially when unused to the game and you are trying to remember what button uses what ability and how to quick use items but generally it's easy to learn.

Small skill tree with basics like finesse strength, occultism and cybertech to master but so far the options seem to be well balanced towards either giving you power, keeping you alive or dealing with events or the world in different ways.

So far from what I have seen the compoleted product is promising, I would say the game is worth picking up if you are a fan of cyberpunk, old console action RPGs and like experimenting with different skill trees and abilities.

Esentially the original deathtrap dungeon gamebooks (of which the originals I own) done in an arcady visual interactive style, with all the story and puzzles intact ands the dice combat carried out in card battles. Some extra fetaures have been added like encounter cards, which add an interesting mechanic in the way that it changes the game different every time you start a new book or die and lose a life. It's very different to the Tin Man fighting fantasy gamebooks or the Sorcery gamebooks, which are both more faithful to the original novel format. This series plays out more like a cross between a gamebook and a boardgame where you see your character move between the challenges. The artstyle is very crisp and clean, and the introduction to how encounters or battles or the challenges from the original books blend together very well into a seamless package.

In order to make it fairer to people who are either new to the game series and maybe to those remember the fiendish difficulty of the original gamebooks, you have more than one life and additional skills you can pick, depending on whether you choose to sacrifice extra lives for more skills. Personally while I think it would be nice to have an iron man mode and challenge like the original gamebook I think the change does work to make the experience less brutal for those who don't like the idea of dying once and having to restart the whole game from scratch with no items.

The first two games in the series are classic dungeon crawlers (with the second game starting with a trial) while the third is set in the open world at specific locations and sites around the world, if you are curious of what to expect when you have finished the first game that is unlocked (deathtrap dungeon)

To summarise the writing and game book adventuring in all three games are top notch and are a steal at the current price, (currently £7.19 in the UK at time of the review) I highly recommend buying and trying and making use of the refund system if this interactive gamebook / boardgame style is not for you.

Early Access Review
Please note, this is a review of the game while it is in early access, written after playing through roughly a few pre zones and a hubs worth of content, so the game is as in progress as my opinions of 10 hours worth of play time.

How would I describe this game? A mix of exploration, action, adventure and puzzle solving set in a neon bright Tron coloured universe with a twist of horror thrown in, all viewed in FPS view, similar to Wales Interactive's previous game Master Reboot.

The elements mesh together really well and is a large step forward from the previous game, which played well and I enjoyed due to being a fan of sci-fi / horror, but at times felt more geared towards physical interation puzzles, compared to this very promising for early access and well crafted piece where every environment has been fun to explore and where the phsyiscal and metal puzzles work with the story to be great sum of parts.

Would I get this game? If you like to explore fantasy / sci fi environments with a good story and a mix of different puzzles that are challenging but fair then this is the game for you. It plays as great single player game, but I would also say that if you have a spouse / partner / friend, you may want to try two player gaming as the mix of puzzles and environments makes it more interesting than gaming experiences. Streaming could aslo work well, from a watcher of many youtube let's plays.

All in all highly recommended as a purchase

Early Access Review
I don't write many reviews as I am more of a gamer of actions and less of words, but I had to write one for this game as its an example of a rare gem in the crop of many many games out there (and I have quite a few). I'm also deliberately reviewing it low in the playtime so I can cleanly state the facts as a fresh player, without the bias more hours would bring.

What's the game like? Well simply put, its an old skool RPG Rogue-Like tactical combat game. It has the feel of an old adventure game from the 80s meshed with a TBS from the 90s, a sort of cross between a Rogue and Final Fantasy, with a hint of Douglas's adams Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy for whimsy and charm and a 1st person Ultima game played in ASCII first person for the map. The mix of games sounds like a mess, it should not work, but in reality it holds together well as you have an interesting non-cliche RPG story with humour and a quest to finish, but is fleshed out with other elements like crafting, town base building by using cratables to upgrade the town, random procedual generated dungeons on the map and in the arena in town, all of which ties into the whole experince.

If you are a fan of the old school, early 90s rogue likes and your ultimas and final fanstasy games, please buy this game, as it has this vibe in spades. Also would highly recommend buying if your interested in combat tactics and not just pressing 1 to cast spell or 2 to drink potion, as like MMORPGS and some offline RPGS, your number keys do your class actions (of which there are many) but there is quite alot going on screen at any point, and any tactical errors such as forgetting to heal when bleeding out in one of the rounds, or forgetting to dodge at certain points will lead to death.

In terms of downsides, it does get hard later in the game and you really do need to know how your class skills interact and behave to survive later on and not be dispatched in quick order (but this may also be seen as a positive) and there may be some intitial getting used the interface needed as there is alot going on the screen per turn and when wandering around landscapes and towns, but if you willing to stick with it you get used to the ASCII style quickly.

In summary it's a game that is packaged in a unique, old skool style but it's one that understands the flows of a more modern tatical TBS game while not sacrificing what it means to be old skool in the first place, presented in great quality. That last scentence may not make sense unless you play it, but it is as it is.
