A great addition to the vast library of Half-Life mods. Enemies have been changed to spew far more viscera on death which gives every weapon that much needed oomph when you blow everything to bits, especially when you hit that sweet, sweet headshot. The maps are also fun to navigate and look nice without overstaying their welcome. With that said, I hope the creator puts out more mods in the future.

G-String is a dystopian hellscape choking on its atmosphere and scenery first, and an alright shooter second. Each level is laden with detail, even down to such minute aspects as graffiti (even at a glance I only saw unique decals for 3 hours straight in a game that decorates nearly every city wall with writing). Despite the engine's age this game pushes its visuals to the limit; even when the lighting betrays it, the game makes up for it with composition, whether its decrepit structures looming high above the player who's fending off death squads in the slums, or looking upon the neon-lit city atop a corporate skyscraper.

Level design itself isn't afraid of feeling labyrinthine at times, you could argue it reinforces the idea of the world being worse off than it already is with the flooding slums and murderous sexbots, but this means you could potentially run around a single map for several minutes straight wondering where to go next. At most I spent roughly five looking for a way out.

As for the actual shooting, it's essentially a reskin of Half-Life 2, save for the fact that weapons are somewhat more accurate, deal more damage (with dismemberment to boot) and the pistol doesn't sound like a wet fart as in HL2. You do have pyrokinesis which lets you spawn a fireball but it's nearly useless except for a couple segments requiring its use to progress. On normal you won't have to worry about supplies as the game is happy to give health and ammo directly after encounters, whereas on hard the enemies can and will melt your health away but at least can put up a fight. The enemies also are more or less the same as in HL2, just with their own visual flair.

Would I recommend this despite its flaws? Certainly, the author clearly spent great care and effort, and plenty of encounters are actually fun but lol hope you don't forget about the elevator.
