Early Access Review
Cyberpunk corporate dungeon crawling! I've never played the original StarCrawlers game, but I didn't feel like you needed to in order to understand or enjoy Chimera, so don't let that deter you either ^^

What I've been enjoying:

+ High replayability due to the procedurally generated floors & wide variety of starting skills to choose from. For the first couple of hours whenever I died I would just start a new playthrough because it was really fun trying out different builds and seeing what the other skill trees offered.

+ Great sense of humor, between the item descriptions, social media posts, dialogue, even the cute 1337 robot names.

+ Unique weapons/accessories. For a while I was wielding a frying pan in one hand and an alien parasite in the other.

+ There's some pretty quirky stuff in the skill trees, like cursed skulls, robot cannibalism, and the ability to make people your friends by shooting them. It makes me excited to try every skill out at least once.

What I'd like to see more of

- The company social media posts on your tablet! It's introduced early in the game and I was hoping to get them frequently but I've only seen a couple. They're so funny though and I loved how you could get different rewards depending on how you reacted.

- I kinda wish I could display my cool weapons in my apartment. There's a chest where you can store gear for your other characters, but some of its so cool looking I wish I could decorate with it lol. I have a gun that is also a mutant dog! I don't wanna put the good boy in a chest!

If you like farming community sims, you will most likely enjoy Sun Haven. There are some really nice quality of life improvements in it that I hadn't seen in the genre before (i.e. being able to change the length of day) and the addition of utility magic to do things like watering/mass mining/fishing etc was really exciting! I think there are definitely some things in here that will become a norm in the genre moving forward.

Pros:
- QoL improvements you don't usually see
- Beautiful spritework
- Music is pretty catchy, I caught myself humming along with it
- Visual character customization is fantastic, a lot of species options you don't normally see
- Lots of decoration options for your home/farm
- Large variety of crops & livestock
- Eating food provides permanent buffs so cooking actually has a function

Cons:
- Doesn't feel as polished as Stardew did at launch, but they're continuing to add content so I'm optimistic that it will get there
- I felt like you run out of dialogue with the romanceables kind of quick. That's probably my fault for talking to NPCs every time I saw them, which was possible since I had my days cranked up to 40 minutes a piece. But still I think a large dialogue pool would go a long way to increasing the longevity of the game. Right now I'm in my second year I think and I started getting burnt out of the same-y ness, but that's an issue I've had with pretty much every farming community sim.

Very funny, and surprisingly large amount of content, and a great trip down nostalgia lane if you grew up with Kingdom Of Loathing. But even if you didn't, I find that people still love the humor and gameplay.

Very fun, and a lot of content if you enjoy trying to do every level with each character! And I love that you can play the game in just 30 minutes. There's not a lot of games that you feel like opening up when you don't have much time to play, but its not an issue with Vampire Survivors.

Genuinely funny, tons of cute art, and a fun little mini game in addition to the visual novel aspect. It's a really nice gift to the Sonic fanbase.

I experienced a problem that another reviewer reported where my key presses were not all being registered. I'd type something and 1/3 of the keys wouldn't get registered. None of my 5 friends who were also playing (we played this as part of our game club, thing a book club for games) experienced this, but for me it made the game basically unplayable.

Other problems I had with the game:

There were parts where you need to submit evidence and for no reason if you don't submit them in a certain order, it doesn't work. I think it might have actually been a bug of some type.

I don't think there's a way to pause the game. I got really sick suddenly and had to run AFK, and when I came back an important story-heavy cutscene had finished and I couldn't go back to see it since the game autosaved after beginning the new chapter.

There are a lot of typos. Some are intentional because they're portraying the character as being bad at typing, but others are definitely unintentional and appear in the newspaper articles when people are arrested.

There are also points where the game will say things like as if they meant to create a variable to fill out that info but then forgot.

You can often arrest people for different things, or arrest different people entirely, but it doesn't really have an impact on anything so that's kind of disappointing.

For pros, the art was was nice and some of the optional documents you could find were amusing.

A cute little game to play with friends, levels aren't too long so it's easy to pick up and put down and play over short intervals.

A really interesting premise, but the ending completely falls through. I thought that you'd have an ending with each character and that we'd see all of the girl's get some character development/back story but you really don't. You have one choice in the game that determines if you get the good ending or if you get a second choice after a few more screens of dialogue that leads to immediate game overs. You never really learn anything about one of the girls. It's just super disappointing.

I had never played a shoot em up before and I was very hesitant about trying one, but I found this game really accessible to newbies due to the multiple difficulty levels gradually easing you into the genre. I had fun! If you buy the game, make sure you try the farce mode and challenges after you beat the story :)
