This is easily one of the best stories ever told by a video game. It is complex and very cryptic to begin, with very playful and interesting use of language, but you will slowly unravel and reinterpret things throughout the experience until eventually most if not all things are made clear.

It's mostly a walking-sim style visual novel so do not expect lots of gameplay, what gameplay there is exists to serve the exploration and story. But this is not to its detriment at all, the narrative, world building and character development are top tier, far beyond what most games could ever hope to accomplish.

This story will stay with me for a long time. It fulfilled its function. Hekki grace.

Great graphics, stylish environments, smooth controls, fantastic gameplay and a pretty decent story. Altogether, this is Hazelight's best game yet, showing that they continue to go from strength to strength. If you're looking for a best in class co-op experience or have played any of Hazelight's previous titles, this is a must-play.

Some people may find they have a preference for one of the game's two main styles and themes but overall all the levels had something interesting, unique and funny that kept my interest from start to finish, and it all culminates in one of my favourite final levels in any game I've played with some incredibly unique gameplay that totally makes up for the somewhat botched ending of It Takes Two.

This will be a clear GOTY for a lot of people.

If you like Obra Dinn or Golden Idol, you enjoy research, or you're interested in family trees, you should try this game.

If you like all of those things, you're going to love this game.

The only Metroidvania that holds a candle to Hollow Knight, if you enjoyed HK and were left wanting more then Grime has you covered. Gorgeous art and audio, intriguing fragmented narrative, tight combat, tight platforming, satisfying movement tech, with lots of boss fights and platforming sections which demand a mastery of the systems the game gives you.

This is a hard game, one for people who want to persevere and overcome adversity. It doesn't hand you anything freely, but it's never unfair to a fault, it asks you to get good and it rewards it when you do.

You should play this game. Crypt Custodian is the third game from Kyle Thompson, and his best work yet, surpassing the already-fantastic Islets which is well loved in the Metroidvania community.

With gorgeous design, great combat and platforming, charming and distinct zones, a plethora of enemies, abilities and upgrades, Crypt Custodian is an absolute delight to play from start to 100%. Kyle's sense of charm, humour and wit is found frequently throughout the game, interspersing challenging combat encounters and bosses with bursts of joy when interacting with the characters that inhabit the world. The music is produced by Kyle's brother and perfectly meshes with the game's style, the boss theme in particular really gets you in the right mood for a great fight.

If you're comfortable with this kind of game, definitely play it on Hard, it's never excessively challenging so the difficulty bump shouldn't bring you any grief but will let you see the game in its best form.

I rarely if ever give games 10/10, but I can think of nothing I'd improve, Kyle's truly made a masterpiece and one he should be incredibly proud of.

One of the most charming and enjoyable Metroidvanias of the last few years. Tight gameplay with great boss fights, fun platforming and tons of secrets to find, wedded with the delightfully charming and joyful tone Kyle Thompson has already mastered, and wonderful music and a beautiful art style to back it up.

The game is every bit as charming as the trailer conveys, if not more so, and the gameplay provides a satisfying challenge and lots of cool environments, fun zones to navigate and explore, secrets to find, and interesting boss fights to overcome.

If you like Metroidvanias, or you like games with a charming up-beat and joyful attitude, you owe it to yourself to play Islets. Voted by many in the Metroidvania community to be their Metroidvania of the Year for 2022.

"Okay, the first symbol is a thicc catboy, then it's a penis, and the last one is a screaming house"

Gives you a good idea of the kind of communication this game will inspire with your co-op partner.

Early Access Review
If you're a fan of games that give you that dopa hit, like incremental games or MMOs, and you're a fan of roguelikes, then you've found your new favourite cathartic and rewarding experience.

The game is filled with an abundance of satisfying moments, cool power-ups, shiny gems and pleasing sound effects, all of which combine with simple but fun gameplay to make for a really rewarding experience.

Really easy to drop in for one or two runs, and every run is fun. For the low price, you'd be missing out if you didn't at least give it a try.

I won a bowling tournament and my prize was a chicken. The chicken now oversees my real estate operations in the Pleasure District. Cool game.
