Let's start with what is terrible about this game, then we'll go over what's good.

1. The UI is the worst thing I have ever experienced in a game.

Too many shortcuts that don't make sense, that are indicated in random places. You have to click so many times just to invite someone, leave a team, go where you want, etc...

The quests aren't really sorted out in an order that makes any sense as a new player. The "Map" that shows the planets is cool but makes absolutely no sense as a new player. You have no idea where to start or what to do.

So many different game modes grouped together for seemingly no reason:

> go to destinations
> Vanguard (okay, whatever Vanguard even means, there's no description)
> Vanguard Ops, Nightfall, GM Nightfall, Onslaught are then all grouped together. Why the ♥♥♥♥ is it called Vanguard then?

You go to the quest tab, most quests you can't even use the "Launch" option, the game will just vaguely tell you "Talk to X person to do Y thing" without ever specifying where that even is, and you end up having to google it.

The game will throw random notifications at the bottom of your screen which will block off pretty much your entire hud, and you now have no idea what is going on because the game just decided that the notifications need to take up a quarter of your entire screen.

The game tries to "Teach" you how to navigate the terrible ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ UI by having these annoying popups that you cannot remove until you do what the game is asking you to. Maybe they should spend more time reworking the UI instead of bloating your screen with annoying tutorials "Press tab, then press d, then click on this, then click on that, then hold this key down on your keyboard" like seriously? When you're starting off, be ready to be playing the game with that annoying ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on your screen for your first couple hours of gameplay, because the game will absolutely spam you with them and you cannot disable them or make them go away.

I could go on for way longer about how the UI in this game absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks, but these are just the big lines.

2. The progression & damage systems sucks.

"Exotics" are these types of weapons that have a very unique ability to them. For example "Enemies will explode on death" or something. But any other weapon in the game has no description to it, so you have no idea what the weapon does until you try it out. That wouldn't be the problem if the game actually had a zone at the Tower (basically the lobby of the game) where you can go to and test out weapons. Otherwise you need to load into one of the open world areas in order to test them.

You will never use most of the weapons in the game, because any weapon that isn't purple or yellow (exotic) quality is basically useless and sucks. I have 30 hours in this game and I used blue-green weapons for a grand total of 30 minutes until the game spammed me with purple-yellow quality weapons. Why are the blue and green weapons even in the game anymore if they're absolutely useless, and the game doesn't even make you use them when you first start out?

The numbers on the guns are way too high and make no sense. My gun has a power of 1990. What the ♥♥♥♥ does that even mean? Why is it even so high? You start the game and you are already dropping weapons in the 1900s, and the max you can get is 2000 from what I understand. I can say the same about the damage numbers. Why do bosses have like 5,000,000 hp and my rocket launcher hits for 150,000???? Pretty much all the numbers in the game need to be divided by 100 at least lmao. There is a gamemode (wouldnt remember which one, there are so many) where the damage numbers are actually human and dont go past the 3-4 digits and the game feels so much better I dont see "276,378 1,139 8,712 8,93 1,212 9,837 9,123 1,2983" being spammed on my screen every time I use abilities. You havee absolutely no way of knowing how much damage youre actually dealing since the numbers are so high.

If you want to play the story, good luck, because there is no way to sort the quest in an order that makes sense for you to know where to even start. The quests are just dumped by activity and there is no other sorting option. Tags are misleading. There is a section called "The Past" and that's where most campaign stories are, but you wouldn't know that, because the game doesn't actually tell you it's a campaign quest until you launch it and are in the lobby ready to start the quest.

TL;DR: The game needs a better UI, they need to divide all the damage numbers. Introduce better quest & gamemode sorting.

Now, the good (I will make this quick).

1. The gameplay (guns, abilities, etc).

The gameplay is what makes you want to come back to this game. While it's hard at first to figure out what stat affects what and how you should be building, once you have a basic understand of how the guns & the abilities interact with what you're equipping on your character, you have in front of you endless hours of finding fun builds to try and then re-doing the same activities you've done hundreds of times but with a new build. That's pretty much the fun of the game.

I hate to make the comparison, but imagine Halo guns with abilities with Warframe-style building. You'll want to drop the same gun over and over to get the perks you want on it, or get rare versions you can dismantle in order to craft your own version of the gun. You can level up equipment and easily change stats that they give you, so the items in the game are pretty versatile depending on what you want to do. Obviously, you will need to grind for resources in order to be able to do that, though.

Each classes have tons of different builds to try and each sub-class has a ton of abilities to unlock and mess around with.

2. Raids, dungeons, etc.

While some of the puzzles in this game suck and are hard just for the sake of being hard (the kind of puzzles where you just "have to know" what to do, instead of being intuitive), the bosses are pretty fun overall and I dont find myself too bored out having to do them over and over to grind for the guns I want.

3. The cosmetics in this game are really cool, and for the most part you don't need to buy them, as there are cosmetics you can unlock via in-game activities and secrets, as well as weekly "bounties" (basically mini quests) that award you currencies to spend in the shop.

That's all. The game is fun, but the UI & new player experience is absolutely terrible. If you dont have friends who already play this game GOOD LUCK!!!

The train system is good. The signals can be simple if you dont care about playing perfectly, but they can be very complicated if you want to play the game well.

Some default settings are terrible and need to be changed to have an optimal experience (mostly signals stuff, like seeing reserved tracks, for example)

The bus/road system is ok, but only really useful for short distances or growing towns. Passengers will get very crowded at 1-2 stations very quickly from my experience, but thats mostly likely something I'm doing wrong.

The airplane/boat system sucks. You want to just make a ton of money and not have to care about anything else? Use planes! I usually refrain from using them in my playthroughs. Boats are chill, but similar to airplanes they make a ton of money just by existing.

Mods make this game very fun, if youre a fan of certain eras, trains or vehicles, mods have you covered.

Maps are easily customizable, you can make your own maps using heightmaps.

tl;dr

The game has some very complicated systems, such as cargo value. Nonetheless, it is very easy to have fun in the game even if you dont want to learn or understand these concepts, because a lot of the mechanics come down to basic logic. Mods will definitely make your experience more fun.

The game is fun but there needs to be some more diversity. You learn the best spots in the dungeons & the enemy spawns very quickly. There needs to be more spells available for wizards. Some classes are op in 1v1 and some suck really bad.

This game is very fun but could use some randomization on the maps or it gets too repetitive

TL;DR If you're a fan of DnD, or just RPGs in general, this game is for you. There are a few bugs / game play issues but they're outweighed pretty hard by how good the game is.

Here are my pros and cons of this game:

Pros:
Amazing graphics (If you can run the game): I have a GTX 1660 Super (not the greatest, but not the worst) and once I arrived in Act 3 (about 60 hrs of game play), I had to considerably lower the graphics in my game in order to keep a constant 60. In Act 1-2, I had no problem hitting 60 running the game at medium-high.

Freedom of choice: The game pretty much lets you do whatever. Want to steal? Go ahead. Kill? Ok. You'll have to face the appropriate consequences if you're caught, but the game won't hold you back.

Level design: Since the game gives you huge freedom when it comes to what you do in the game, most areas have multiple access points. What I mean by this is that let's say, for example, you have to enter a crypt to retrieve an artifact. If you've picked up the mission earlier in the game, then you might be able to just walk through the front door. If not, you'll have to find another way in, either by luck or by choice (a lot of areas are connected). The game is very non-linear when it comes to exploring dungeons, so there isn't really a "right" way to complete a given area.

The content / story: Hard to explain this one without spoiling, but basically, every single companion in the game has their own story and mission. It's pretty much close to impossible to do it all in 1 play through because some of the companions (You can have 3 with you at most, and the rest stay at your camp) hate each other. On top of this, you have the main quest and tons of side quests. Even if you're rushing the main quest, completing the main story will take you hours and hours.

On top of this, the game has tons of "lore" areas to explore with mini-dungeons that reward you for your curiosity.

The gameplay: The game tries its best to follow DnD rules as close as possible. The max level in-game is 12, so you will become very overpowered much faster than in actual DnD. I've seen enemies above lvl 12, though, so it is possible that the game will have a DLC of some sort that lets you level up farther, as it seems not every spell in DnD is in the game . I do wish the max level was 20 on release, because I've been trying my best to do most side quests in the game and I'm already almost level 12, and I don't think I'm anywhere close to the end of the game.

Cons:

LAG: If you don't have a good GPU. You'll most likely have to run this game on low graphics, with or without lowered resolution. I scaled my game down to 1280 x 270 (from 1920 x 1080), and it looks kind of blurry in places, but the cut scenes are still good and interesting regardless.

Bugs: I do have faith that they will get around to fixing all of the bugs. Considering how large the game is, I can understand the game having a few bugs. You might see some animations break, some delayed animations, some characters t-posing, etc. The worst bug I had was upon entering The Lower City for the first time in Act 3, the entire game became delayed by a few seconds (animations, attacks, rolls, etc.) and I had to reload a previous save. Sucks, but again I have good faith they will fix those bugs.

Useless items : This one's a little niche but given the sheer amount of items the game throws at you, only a handful are actually useful. Rope? Useless. Bottles? Useless. Bones? Useless. Those are my 2 best examples. It seems like the game had first intended for you to be able to use those items (maybe rope could be attached to things, bottles to craft potions, bones idk?), but then scrapped it. Maybe those items will have good use in future updates or DLCs.

**The game will throw "useless" weapons at you all game. Example: In act 3, you find an uncommon Greataxe +1 on the ground. What's the point, you might think? Well, if you decide to do the side quest for a different character that's been sitting at your camp all game, you'll need to gear them .. and since you can't go back to Act 1 and 2, it's useful to get these "trash" items to be able to gear some characters for a mission or 2 before sending them back to camp.
