Awaria is another testament to the creative genius of Łukasz Piskorz, offering a delightful blend of artistic expression and immersive storytelling. While smaller in scale than Helltaker, this project showcases vanripper's talent for crafting compelling experiences that leave a lasting impression.

The visuals in Awaria are mesmerizing, with a distinct style that exudes atmosphere and emotion. Every frame feels like a work of art, pulling you into a beautifully crafted world. The game's narrative, though subtle, is layered with meaning, inviting players to interpret and explore its themes.

What makes Awaria special is its ability to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity. It’s clear that vanripper poured his heart into every detail, creating a unique and memorable experience that stays with you long after playing.

For fans of artistic indie games, Awaria is a must-experience title. It’s proof that Łukasz Piskorz continues to innovate and surprise with his creative projects.

Helltaker is a brilliant gem of indie gaming, blending addictive puzzle mechanics with a distinct and stylish aesthetic. Łukasz Piskorz, aka vanripper, masterfully combines challenging gameplay with a lighthearted narrative full of charm and humor.

The game's striking black, white, and red art style immediately grabs your attention, while its cast of quirky and lovable demon-girl characters keeps you invested. Each interaction is packed with wit and personality, making the dialogue just as engaging as the puzzles themselves.

What truly stands out is the game's perfect pacing—offering increasingly complex challenges that reward strategic thinking without becoming frustrating. The soundtrack is a masterpiece, pumping with energy and perfectly complementing the game's fast-paced vibe.

Whether you're here for the puzzles, the art, or the humor, Helltaker delivers on all fronts. It's a must-play for fans of indie games, proving that a small project with passion and creativity can leave a massive impact.

Frostrain is a nice deckbuilder game. You collect card over time and decide which to keep. The game have a few amount of card but different combination can be done. There is a replayability if you want to try different strategy. You can go for a full science train or a combo engine+explorer. For last achievement you will have to find a good combo and attempt to beat the storm (either by racing or by bringing some much happiness that you can overpass the storm negative effect)

Hollow Floor

The game starts in windowed mode with a small resolution. Despite the large pixels, the game scene is clearly visible. There’s an option for fullscreen, but the scene is square-shaped, leaving black borders on each side.

The menu text is a bit blurry, but once the game starts, there’s no text or instructions—this is great, as it lets you discover the game features on your own.

Features

You’ll find a coin counter, a death counter, a map, and a timer (optional, for speedrun only)

By the way, there are achievements that require a deathless run. My first death occurred within a minute of gameplay -_-

Don’t expect to get a deathless run on your first try; some rooms give no warning, so you’ll only know what to avoid after experiencing it once.

First sequence

After a few minutes of exploration and vine climbing, I was looking for a power to jump or something similar, but instead, I received a power to walk on air (without any way to gain altitude, though). :/

Also, the power doesn’t consume any energy if you stand still, so feel free to take your time.

The moment I got this new power, I remembered a past room where I couldn’t reach a bonus. With this new power, I could get it easily—or so I thought! Turns out, it teleported me to another area: the famous Green Challenge Room, which rewards one of the three gems for the first door.

Next up, the Red area, and more death without warning.

Second power unlocked: YOU CAN JUMP NOW, BABY! This should be game-changing—oh, but it also prevents the gentle up-and-down movement I was using to descend and stop just before a spike… CURSE YOU, JUMP POWER!

Gameplay

Control are simple, four directions and one action button (X), the character goes where i would like, no big issue there.

Level design is quite good, many path displayed but your lack of power force you to follow a simple way, once you got a power, you can backtrack or keep going for more power (and backtrack at the very end for completion goal)

No specific puzzle here, just exploration which unlock more exploration. Backtracking is optionnal for a run, but completionist would require it to get all coins.

Graphic are pixel-shaped, good old style.

Regarding the sound design, two points : one the music is a chill and peace ambiant music. quite relaxing. Then second point, the sound effect can be very aggressive at some point (like when you die)

The game is easily playable with a gamepad.

Conclusion

The game is good, well executed by the developer, worth the price.

If there was a downside, it is mainly for achievement hunter because it require a perfect knowledge of all rooms and traps in order to 100% the game.

It’s developed by solo developer Ahmed Khalifa.

(Novembre 2023)
