The Industrial Revolution and its consequences were a disaster for humanity. They have greatly increased the life expectancy of those of us living in "developed" countries, but they have destabilized society, made life unsatisfactory, subjected people to humiliation, led to widespread psychological suffering (in third world countries also physical suffering) and caused serious harm the world of nature. Further development of technology will worsen the situation. This will certainly subject people to greater humiliation and cause greater damage to the natural world, it will likely lead to greater social destruction and psychological suffering, and may lead to increased physical suffering even in "developed" countries.
