The game is good, but it shares the same flaw as Oxygen Not Included: ratizens are disposable meatbags with zero personality, and you never get attached to them. It would be better if increasing colony size were harder; rather than spawning ratizens from a magic portal, you should have to recruit travelers or let ratizens reproduce. Ratizens would matter more if they weren’t so replaceable and had unique backstories. The devs also need to make the AI more believable, it's just too robotic and dumb. Ratizens won't even fight back against attackers or save allies bleeding out nearby. You cant issue direct orders either, like telling them to heal up or prioritize certain buildings. It is by far the game's biggest weakness.

I like Ratopia much more than Oxygen Not Included. The graphics are cute, and you roleplay as a queen who runs the city. Unlike other colony sims like RimWorld, which relies on mods to improve its aesthetics and gameplay (mods like Gloomy Face and Save Our Ships 2 are mandatory), Ratopia’s vanilla experience is already amazing. Its unique RPG system has immense potential, blending Terraria, Oxygen Not Included, and city management.

It's got the same vibe as Kakegurui. The main character, Asuha, is a self-proclaimed prodigy chasing thrills. She takes on cunning cheaters called witches, each has their own sneaky tricks that the player unravel as they progress. The gameplay's got fun cheating mechanics, like seeing through cards or rigging deals, much like those in Touhou Gensou Mahjong. However, it leans more towards a visual novel than poker game. You’ll spend way more time reading a linear storyline than playing cards.

While the game is pretty fun, it's far from perfect, here's what I don't like this game:
Boss fights cap your bets, so you can't raise or go all-in after reaching a certain limit. Where's the fun if you can't go big with a killer hand? Also, the executions are brutal and uncalled for. Instead of letting us decide the fate of the bosses, the game jumps straight to some lame torture scene. Additionally, the game has no voice over, which is disappointing for a visual novel.

Dunno why there are so many negative reviews, but I like this more than Mahjong Soul. The PC client is smooth and clean, the characters are likable, and there's only one server unlike in MS. This is also a relatively new game, so there's still potential for Saki or other anime collabs in case you missed them in MS.

The game is good but the dev need to add more variety to the events. It feels odd that every event is a card battle, gets old and repetitive real fast. Some events such as rainbow, kill on road, or car crash should be dialogue events instead, or at least something that doesn't slow down the pace of the game too much, just small conversations between the hitchhikers would be interesting enough.

IRL if you see a car accident, you might take a quick glance and then just drive by, but in this game, you face like 10 full threats that wants to kill you for no reason, it gets really annoying and disrupts the flow of the game. Even the kid peeing on the road is a fricking card battle, would be funny if you ran out of skills to use and were forced to abandon the kid while they were peeing.

It's Layers of Fear with an anime girl. Definitely not what I expected when buying this game.

Edit: Now that I've finished the game, I must say I'm not a big fan of the horror elements, especially the part where you have to run from mannequins. I think the game would be better if it were easier and less scary. My favorite moment is when the player helps chibi Mita to mold a key, it's very cute and adorable.

edit:

As someone who's never played a Beholder game before I have mixed feelings about this game.

The good:

-The game has an intriguing plot that explores the power struggle within the ministry, with two opposing factions, Huberts (progressive) and Altmann (conservative), both are interesting characters. The rebels, led by Wolf and Muller, adds another layer the story. The voice acting is also excellent.

-The game depicts a bleak and corrupt world where power corrupts and those in positions of authority abuse it to get what they want, regardless of the consequences for the powerless. The player will witness and even participate in various acts of corruption, bribery, blackmail, and framing. The game serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of absolute power and the importance of holding those in authority accountable.

-Some tenants and colleagues have interesting backstories and missions. I reported the wife beater to the police and he got arrested, only to see him being released the next day because of his “connections”, he actually beat his wife to death in the following days.

The bad:

-Feels unfinished and rushed, the latter half of the game feels empty. Players may feel disappointed that there are no more missions from department V to further develop the characters. The game seems to have run out of stories to tell after reaching department IV.

-The interface could use some polishing. For instance, the right pane doesn't automatically switch to the corresponding person unless both panes are on the same tab. Right-clicking also does nothing when you'd expect it to cancel an interaction or zoom out.

-The protagonist receiving money/tools magically breaks immersion. They should receive a fixed salary & tools from the state instead. The "supply depot" plant serves no real purpose until the ending chapter.

-Not enough hints. I didn’t even know where to collect the money for blackmailing or dispose of garbage bags until late in the game. Some quests are also confusing without a guide.

-I didn’t run into any major bugs in my play through but there are a couple of minor ones such as stuttering animations while dashing and the policeman “catching me red-handed” in the ministry but the dialogue indicated I wasin my apartment.

I think this game is worth it but the dev needs to spend more effort in polishing it and adding content as it feels unfinished.

I was expecting way more from this game after reading the amazing prologue but turns out this is just your average "teenagers with powers saves the world" anime story. Some characters such as Jillian feels extremely lame as they tried to "help" the protagonist by standing in the way and fighting them, it just doesn't make sense at all. Buy only on discount.
