Very cool game game, worth a playthrough for the atmosphere alone. I completed it in 3 hours and bought it on sale for less than $10 so I recommend you do the same. Full price is just too much to ask for a game this short no matter how great the experience was

For $5 this game is criminally fun for the low price, free on mobile if you really wanna try before you buy too.

Matchmaking is really spotty, tonnes of weird errors when trying to join games and you even compete for server access when trying to host a private game for your friends.

Aside from that, when you get in it's pretty damn fun and I haven't experienced any disconnects once you're actually IN the game.

A good addition to the franchise but not without it's share of problems.

Heaps of QoL improvements and gun-play is extremely satisfying. The Vault Hunters have the most diverse skill trees to date out of any game in the series even two friends playing the same character in the same skill tree could have different augments to differentiate themselves. It really shows the developers dumped all their eggs into the gameplay basket and cranked it up to 13/10.

The Calypso Twins could have been much better villains imo. This is excluding any comparisons to Jack, everybody acknowledges Jack can't be out-villain'd, but the Calypsos were just gonna do evil for the sake of being evil?

A lot of lore and plot threads from previous entries are either omitted or outright ignored. By the time you finish the game you'll have more questions than answers. It was clear the writers wanted to do more with the characters but I guess they couldn't do it all in time for launch. I've got 600+ hours across the franchise and I've lost some gusto to complete the DLCs cuz my friends just don't be feeling Borderlands like they used to.

Vault Hunters = 5/5
Gameplay = 5/5
Story = 2/5

In typical Borderlands fashion; it's definitely the best deal to snag the game + season pass when it's on sale but if you absolutely can't wait to play by yourself or with friends full price is justifiable for such a good game.

**Now also available on Nintendo Switch!!**

This game caught my eye while browsing the store at the beginning of this year and I thought it looked like a fun co-op game with friends. I added it to my wishlist and there it sat until it went on sale and I could convince some friends to play it with me. When the game did finally go on sale I snatched it up and rallied my friend to do the same. We jumped in and played the first few stages to get familiar before our other friends joined us.

I was instantly hit with a wave of buyer's satisfaction when I read the first few boxes of in-game dialogue. The writing is charming, funny, witty, goofy and endearing and I instantly made room in my heart for these 4 badass ladies to take me on their adventure. The characater design and personality is fantastic for each one of them and I found myself giddy reading every bit of dialogue the story had to offer.

The gameplay is also solid as heck! The feel of the stages and gameplay gave me hard Castle Crasher nostalgia and the light RPG elements made it interesting enough to explore different gear loadouts and experiment between combinations. I appreciate the fact this game isn't a brainless button-masher and it does take some knowledge of how your own character plays and coordination between your friends. If you really like a challenge you can also play solo and have the ability to roll out with 2 characters to swap between. The game encourages you to swap often and string together combos between the two of your ladies to lay down the maximum amount of hurt.

Something you're either going to love or hate is the puzzle and riddles. A fair amount of them can be solved by applying basic problem solving and the ability to think outside the box for a few. There were only a select few I found so unclear I had to look up a hint or outright answer. I will say if you do spend the time to actually solve as many puzzles as you can without spoilers you'll find yourself rewarded with a great sense of accomplishment and it'll only deepen your love for this game.

The game is a bit short, only requiring a little over 20 hours for me to complete a playthrough but everything else is so well polished and gratifying that it honestly left me warm and fuzzy when completing the game and it didn't overstay it's welcome. You also may be pleased to hear the game has a Discord server if you don't have immediate friends to play with and the game developers are present to answer questions and listen to feedback!

Purchasing this game and discovering how much I loved it really cemented this feeling of finding a diamond in the rough. It deserves so much love and attention and I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did. If you ever are inclined to join the Discord don't hesitate to find me and ask to play!

Buying to play solo? = On Sale (any %) APPROVED
Buying to play co-op? = Full Price APPROVED

EDIT2: Game is now $39.99, this is pretty fair price for the content you get. Changed review to recommended. Also removed some negatives as they've been patched since my last edit.
EDIT1: Season Pass content has been completely revealed, updated review to reflect that.

If you know me, you know I'm a Borderlands maniac. Gearbox handed the reigns off to 2K Australia and it brought some cool things to the table but dropped the ball with other things. Lemme give you the run down:

POSITIVE

+ Buttslams and low gravity are fun as hell, and make combat in this game incredibly satisfying and borderline addictive
+ 4 new(ish) vault hunters with great skill trees and little to no skills that absolutely suck (lookin' at you More Pep & Flicker from BL2)
+ Each vault hunter is more chatty and has unique dialogue to chime in with during story and side mission conversations
+ The Grinder is a great tool for helping you get that specific gear you're looking for by putting in the correct ingredient weapons
+ Laser weapons are friggin' sweet! Pewpewpew!
+ New vehicle, the Stingray, is unique in being the first solo-rider-only
+ Vending machines have significantly higher chances to have an orange item as the item of the day (like BL1 chances)

NEGATIVE

- 90% of orange items in this game are DIRECT PORTS or RESKINS of guns from BL2. Some are even clones with very small mechanical changes as if to pass it off as something brand new. There are a VERY SMALL handful of completely new orange weapons
- As if finding ported oranges wasn't bad enough, welcome back a few freakin' direct port quest uniques! They burn you on the oranges and then even get too lazy to make UNIQUE quest rewards for this game
- Areas of the map include lots and lots of long uninteresting treks across the moon until you unlock the vehicles
- The soundtrack in this game is not very interesting. It's all just kinda bland space trancey stuff. BL2 (especially the pirate dlc) had some absolutely sick music
- enemies are very watered down in variance. Basically you have bandits in space suits (but much less variety of them), dahl soldiers, kraggons (they're cool), shugaraths (only on 1 map though) space spiderants and eridians. They cut out badass psychos, nomads, goliaths, varkids, bullymongs and crystalisks completely. The amount of new enemies is very much out-weighed by what you lost
- enemies don't really say anything memorable. In BL2 the bandits and hyperion personal said some hilarious things in the middle of battle. Scavs on the moon just say a lot of aussie mumbo jumbo. I mean it's lightly amusing, but the delight of the accent wears off soon and the dialogue itself is not that funny.
- Once you hit 50 there isn't a lot to do. With all the recycled oranges from BL2 and the issues of their bosses never respawning why do you even bother farming? Oh that's right so you can take what you do from farming vending machines and put it in the grinder. gee thats fun, whoopee!
- The season pass is very pail compared to BL2's pass. It includes 2 characters (Handsome Jack's doppleganger and Hamerlock's sister, Aurelia) 1 arena dlc called the Holodome (also comes with +10 levels) and 1 campaign dlc (+10 more levels included, so max level cap will be 70). So in total that's 2 characters, 1 arena and 1 campaign. Let me remind you BL2 had FOUR campaigns in their season pass and still had 2 characters dlc you could get serperately from the pass (Gaige was even free with preorder of BL2)

The pre-sequel is a fun game for the first play-through for fans of the franchise and newcomers. Play-through 2 and endgame will largely dissapoint the hardcore fans that enjoy the series so much, though.

3/5 PSYCHO MIDGETS (wait, we call them little people on the moon now)

The game is just absolutely beautiful. Visuals are crisp and vibrant, enviroments are never stale, and the gameplay is just as good! Puzzles are fun and challenging and work with 1 or 3 players trying to complete it. Includes NewGame+ as well!

The game is really funny, charming, and overall enjoyable to play.

Minions are smarter and no longer chase things into water (where they will drown). They can do more things like ride mounts. Your spells are also a lot more fun to use once you collect them. They make an impact, but aren't easy-mode mob obliderating (I'm looking ar your Inferno spell). Everything is just BETTER then the last one, and is improved upon in almost everyway.

The MOUSE CONTROLS on the other hand are rage-enducingly buggier then they used to be and will more often then not accidently get half your minions killed. Like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ have I had some times where the game just decides to flip out and send a dozen minions into a boss monster and just die. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FANTASTIC.

I really liked Overlord 1 and Overlord 2 is nice too, but the RAGE the control bugs will cause amongst other game-breaking bugs you might run into make this a 7/10 for me though.

If you liked Pikmin, you'll probably like Overlord.
