Questionable monsters design, miserable singleplayer experience.

This DLC unlocks the Master Mode for extra content, with monsters that fly and jump around so fast that you can't land enough hits to make them flinch. But how do you make your hunts go faster? "Tenderize" they say, with the clutch claw, a tool that even when aimed at the head will make you grapple onto a random body part instead, which is a clunky piece of ♥♥♥♥.

HOWEVER, trying to grapple onto a crackhead monster that has seemingly no delays or openings will get you punished. Now you're in a situation where you can't clutch claw, but you can't make the monster flinch either, and it keeps doing hit and runs on you. You can't land combos, you do chip damage, fights get drawn out into 40 minutes long or even timeout at 50 minutes which fails the quest.

Another funny thing is, playing on singleplayer has a problem where you can't outrun certain monsters, or avoid getting hit by its stupidly massive hitbox (which is its entire body) despite visually seeing your character out of its path of destruction. Telegraphed attacks don't mean much if you can't avoid them, unless you find that <10 degree angle of clearance to exploit. You can't play defensive, the game wants you to be on offense nearly all the time.

Then the game expects you to build the absolute armor and weapon set with specific skills to counter whichever monster you are fighting, so off you go to farm, 100 hours, 200 hours, 300 hours, you finally craft the set and beat the monster after a long miserable fight. Was it rewarding? Yes. Was it fun though? Absolutely not.

And any comments or complaints on the monsters will reap replies from two kinds of people. One is people who agree that the some or certain monsters in this DLC just isn't fun to play against, another is the people who describe that you hit a "wall", and you need to "git gud", stop complaining, just stop getting hit.

My thoughts for this DLC is mainly that, it's aimed at the fans in the top end minority that grind the hell out of the Monster Hunter series. If you're here for the singleplayer experience, expect the extreme end of the hardest of hunts. Co-op is a more forgiving experience, as you get timeouts when the monster is off to chase your teammates, and hunts stay within 25 minutes.

I have very mixed feelings, but they lean towards the negative.

Early Access Review
Deep Rock Galactic is a great co-op experience with friends or randoms. You can play Deep Rock Galactic with or without friends as the game has a server browser so players can join strangers' lobbies to form a team and embark on mining or hunting adventures that take you to underground caves of unusual biomes that will put on a challenge for players.

In Deep Rock Galactic, you play as a dwarf that you pick from four classes which are the Driller, the Engineer, the Gunner, and the Scout. Each team/lobby consists of four players, and there is no limit on how many players can play each class. However, having all the classes present in the game will provide the best experience due to the need of teamwork while mining and navigating in the caves. I'll explain why teamwork is important with one simple scenario, which is when there is a certain mineral located on the ceiling or high up on a wall, the Engineer can shoot platforms while the Scout uses his grapple hook to conquer hard-to-reach areas. Teamwork is necessary to smoothly operate in expeditions so the players you meet are often very communicative.

With all the players helping each other to achieve the same targets, it makes for a very fun experience. The maps are also procedurally generated so they look similar but have different routes. More complex maps will require players to have a better sense of direction and stick with their teammates so they don't get lost or get left behind by their teammates. Solo players have a higher risk of getting killed by waves of enemies so this promotes grouping up to face off against countless enemies that become hungry for dwarf flesh every once in a while.

The developers are also very active at updating the game while being very communicative with the playerbase. Bugs are taken seriously and the developers squash bugs rather quickly after they acknowledge the bugs' existence. The game is shaping up to become one of the best co-op games to ever exist with every update that adds fun and exciting new features. Go ahead and try it out.

Thoughts on Refunct

Short and simple, but an amazing parkour experience in a game where pillars rise up from the ocean that surrounds you. Game can be completed 100% in 1.6 hours from my experience. If you have some extra pocket money, do get this lovely little game.

Positives
  • Beautiful shaders
  • Short and sweet
  • Fun challenges
  • Easy to learn

Negatives
  • Glare of the sun sometimes blinds your vision and you cannot see the objective

Early Access Review
I bought this game when it first came out, to see the differences between this and Terraria as I was a big fan of it. At first I didn't expect much from a new Early Access game which only costed RM8 (Malaysian Ringgit), but I was BLOWN AWAY by the mechanics of Dig or Die !

Story & Objective
You crash landed on an unknown hostile planet because you're a horrible pilot, you had no choice but to survive horrible nights and collect materials to build another rocket to fly home.

Combats
Hardcore and fun. Combats are fast-paced so you had to have good aim of the enemy while running and jumping around the place to avoid enemy attacks.

Challenges
There are many challenges I like about this game, one I came across is building a bridge to cross the huge gap to get precious materials. Building a bridge is not as easy as I thought it would be, the game has AMAZING physics implemented, the blocks break when it cannot support the amount of weight, falling to death several times is common.

Graphics
When it first came out, the graphics weren't as good as the graphics it has now, the developer hired a professional artist through community voting for the best suitable new graphics for the game. Dig or Die has very colorful graphics, literally candy to the eyes.

Developer
The developer is very active, and actually adds things to the game unlike most Early Access devs. He also responds to nearly every single thread in the forums and accepts ideas from the community.

Overall Score

9.367/10

DO NOT GET THIS GAME

Don't get this game please. It's buggy as hell with horrifying optimization. It's even worse when they announced an episodic approach. I bought this game at first to support Quickfire Games hoping they could create something like an improved Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, with the endless gameplay and farming.

If you didn't already know Stardew Valley, look it up. It's one of the best farming sim out there.

I'd have to admit this is a really fun game. Asides from the bugs, you can travel from island to island or battle other pirate ships with your own customised or captured ship from other pirates when you defeat them. It's not hard, but if you feel it you can play on the Easy hardness for your first game. The tutorial isn't really well made, but I'm used to discovering the games themselves without any tutorials given, so that I won't have to worry about no tutorials to read. There are almost no games like Pixel Piracy's concept, it's worth the buy. And so the new ENHANCED edition I still don't know what it'll add but I have a good feeling that it'll be a whole lot of surprises.

After defeating pirates you can either capture their ship or plunder it. For me I'll always plunder their ships because I have my own customised ship, I like mine better than theirs. You can build cannons and cannon bombs for your pirates who was already taught the skill of knowing to use cannons. Then when you encounter an enemy, your pirates will start to use the cannons within a time of 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, other pirates will invade your ship through grappling hooks. Tip: You can teach your pirates Light Steps to increase their walking speeds faster each level it raises for faster the time between running to get the bomb and reloading cannon.

Pirates in the game don't know how to swim (which is funny) so to teach them to swim with the skill Swimming so your pirates will respawn back on your ship after getting knocked into the sea by an enemy. Your pirates might sometimes slip into the water when boarding a ship, which is safer to teach your pirates about swimming earlier.

Pirates will poop on/in the ship after eating. Teach a pirate Cleaning to start throwing poop overboard, stay clean and pirates moral won't decrease fast.

Welp... you'll understand nothing just by reading. It's never too late to get the game.
