Vibe = System Shock 2 + Texhnolyze + Shadow of the Colossus. Lots of megalophobia, so delicious!

I've played through this game so many times now, not counting the steam version. Basically, you control a Ken doll through Spain and kick ass. A perfect fit for survival horror fans and gun nuts.̶ +1 point for hot MC

1,200 hours (and many, many more from previous verisons). 1,200 hours of my life. Gone. I'm never getting those back. But it was worth it. The bull-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Kleiner-slaughtery, zombie-barricadey shine of this game shall never die.

Fantastic game. While the setting may not be as alluring as that of F3, this one's got loads more detail.

In response to the success of far cry 3, I feel it's time I look back and take a more in-depth review of far cry 2. Upon first look, it's a game with a terrible story and many infuriating game mechanics. More specifically, players hate the permanent dependance on malaria medication, the accelerated weapon degradation, the re-populating enemy strongholds and checkpoints, and the unusual fast-travel system. If you find yourself miserable due to all these problems, I understand if you want to un-install. However...

I find a dusty, bloody, and primal charm from the whole game experience. Every issue I listed above is actually a reason as to why I love this game! And for me, it all comes down to immersion in the game's world. For example, the story doesn't grab you like it does in so many GOTYs. Instead of creating some elaborate story for the player to get distracted by, players are sent on small missions that allow them to play the game their own way. Weapon degradation forces you to use foresight and planning to ensure you are at your prime. Malaria also keeps you focused on living day-to-day, and prevents you from being the uber-warrior that so many games make you into. Never-ending enemy spawning keeps you on your toes. The fast-travel-by-bus system allows you to make short leaps around the map, but only in certain areas, forcing you to plan your routes effectively.

Overall, far cry 2 is unapologetically rough. Underneath the seemingly frustrating game features lies highly immersive gameplay. The beautiful and lifelike ambient sounds and stunning visuals are just icing on the bloody, bloody cake.

P.S.: I originally wanted to call FC2 realistic, but I now see it as engrossing, which is much more fun. If you can buy this game at $2.50 on a sale, please give this game a try.
