When it comes down to it, the only real decision in this game is which order you visit the districts. They decided to make it so time only passes when travelling between areas, so you never know if you should spend a ton of time in an area really doing everything you can or if you should just be in and out in 15 minutes just doing your objective. It would be much better if time just flowed normally so I could travel freely. You also can't equip new trinkets except when switching areas, which feels bad. In fact, everything about switching areas feels bad. The game gives you this whole unnecessary level completion menu that says what you learned, what you gathered, important deaths and so on and all it does is make the game feel like a set of individual levels. It completely breaks the immersion.

I never got the impression that I should really care all that much about gathering knowledge about the timeloop to use to my advantage. The game would hold my hands for the important stuff and things like enemy/item placement were completely unnecessary to think about. I never once thought an encounter would have been significantly better if I had bothered to get a different gun or trinket or if I had known ahead of time where somebody would be standing.

The AI is pretty dumb, they'll give up on finding you pretty easily and you can drop a hacked turret into a room of them and the ones that aren't in direct line of sight won't even know anything is wrong and just keep fiddling with a bicycle or whatever as all their friends get shot to death 10 feet away.

The timeloop is just a chore with no gameplay benefit and the first time I got looped from a death was over 3 hours into the game (the game didn't pause when I opened up the settings menu) so I just quit playing the game. It seems odd to me that in a game called deathloop, actually dying and looping would be a rare annoyance. I'll probably come back and progress further in the game when I'm bored but so far this game is definitely not worth $60 to me.

Every once in a while I come back to this game and try to get into it but I just can't. Most of my deaths in this game are from me taking hits because my character decided to do something other than swing their weapon at the zombie in front of them. Having 2 zombies walking next to each other is very common and very annoying to fight and even when I'm sneaking and they are facing the another direction they still often notice me from far away. Cheap deaths in games are ok occasionally but when they make up 95% of the deaths then it stops being fun.

Exploring isn't fun because once one zombie spots you it often starts a chain reaction that ends with more than a dozen chasing you and you can't hide because the hiding spots either already have zombies in them or the zombies will just follow you there anyway even though you were so far ahead of them that they should have no way of knowing where you went.

Obviously I know if I keep playing I'll get better at compensating for the controls and so on but the rest of the gameplay just doesn't look interesting enough to justify the dozens of hours necessary to become a master of this game. Usually when I start playing a game like this I'm hooked in the first hour, not struggling to figure out if its even fun 8 hours in. I'd have just given up on it by now if it wasn't very positively rated.

The games fun, I feel like there's not much to say about the gameplay that you can't get from the little video they show on the store page. What I will say is the game goes out of its way to claim its not an idle game but I'm not convinced. Setting up the infrastructure to make a new shape can be a fun challenge. The problem is rebuilding the same infrastructure over and over to mass produce a single shape fast enough to avoid long wait times isn't fun. You can copy paste eventually but it costs resources and the random supply of random mixed shapes means you'll still be manually setting up supply lines even if you create a perfect mass production system. I'd rather idle this game for hundreds of hours to avoid the repetitive gameplay that you hit a couple hours in.

One suggestion I would have for the dev to improve the game would be to let us an additional hub every 10 levels. Having to funnel everything from the giant map into one spot just seems like an unnecessary chore that adds nothing to the gameplay.

The game is a lot of fun, it's basically FTL but instead of ship fights you have little tower defense matches using a deck of cards to create towers and cast spells. The fights are short, if anything too short imo but you can get some really enjoyable chaos going on once you unlock you get a bunch of trinkets (they give special bonuses/effects)

Honestly my biggest complaint about the game is there just needs to be more of it. The game is much easier to beat than FTL and all the trinkets and stuff you collect really start to synergize and get fun right at the end of the campaign. Sure you can play through slightly higher difficulty modes and there's a "custom run" option that I'm getting close to unlocking but I really just want to be able to keep going in the campaign and not get booted out after 3 sectors for 8 hours or however it takes until I can find out what custom run is.

The roguelike powering up element of it just isn't capturing my attention at this point in time. The little swappable permanent boosts you unlock feel too insignificant to really matter and I feel like it's going to take dozens of hours to get ones good enough to care about. You can unlock other starting decks too and each one has it's own difficulty track you're supposed to work through but since you gain random cards constantly anyway it's really not anywhere near as exciting to me as unlocking a new ship in FTL.

In conclusion, I do wholeheartedly recommend this game to tower defense fans but don't go into it expecting to spend hundreds of hours of fun on it like you might in more replayable games like bloons, gemcraft, infinitode or dungeon warfare.

From the day I first saw a gif of this games pixel physics I knew I wanted to play it. As hoped it is an excellent game with a ton to do and a ton of replayability, even if it is sometimes a little too easy to die suddenly. I hope someday there is a sequel, I will buy it instantly.

I will suggest something that I normally wouldn't though. Play the game until you hit a wall in your progress and at that point I highly recommend watching some videos of experienced players and learning some of the ridiculous ways this games mechanics are designed to be abused.

Being used to games trying hard to prevent OP builds, I never would have imagined the crazy way things are meant to interact in this game. Maybe even just the knowledge that things are meant to be abused is enough to get started though, don't rely on the game to just hand you powerful spells or wands.

Really enjoyed this game. It can be frustrating at a few points (specifically a water level changing puzzle) but otherwise is a lot more enjoyable than other difficult to control games I've tried.

I'm trying to enjoy this game and in theory I should because I love tycoon games and animals but honestly it just plain feels like this game was designed to be annoying more than fun. Paths? Annoying. Placing premade exhibits? Annoying. Making your own exhibit? Very annoying. Buying animals? Annoying.

There's some good ideas in this game but honestly I think the truth is that this game is almost exclusively designed for people who loved doing scenery decoration in Planet Coaster. However I want to be able to easily line a path up next to my exhibit. I want to be able to put fences down without the terrain height causing unnecessary issues. I want literally anything in the game to be intuitive for new players.

I would much rather go back and play Zoo Tycoon 1 than this game. It just works. Plus if you want the full experience you have to spend over $100 otherwise you miss out on a bunch of iconic animals. When I make a zoo in a game my goal is to have as many different animals as possible, not to spend 10 hours decorating a select few.

I was addicted to the original Avalanche back in highschool and bought this sequel the second that I found out it existed. It is a great evolution of the originals simplistic gameplay with more to do than simply climbing higher and higher.

At first I was hesitant about the move to 3d but they've managed to recreate everything I loved about the original game and more. It's only April but I think I'm safe saying this will be my game of the year.
